You are NOT an idiot, or stupid. You gave your viewers a real presentation and video of the prep for removing filter and screen.. often what we run into when doing something like this for the first time.. looks like water in the hyd. oil.

Thanks for the valuable info. I have a Model 2020 and I don't think it has ever been serviced. The hydraulic fluid is full but the brakes don't work and the hydraulics are 2 inches per minute slow! The engine (gas) is strong so it's my project. I will clean the two filters and replace the third and see how it performs with new fluid. Thanks again.

No problem thanks for watching! I bet your screen is plugged like mine. Esp because your brakes are not working and a lot of the shavings from the brakes will clog that screen.

Thanks man, we have a 2640 and is has pretty much identical hydraulics. Not a simple job. Like you said the manual doesn't really go into detail about the whole process. You probably saved me a lot of mistakes when I changed the fluid in ours.

Outstanding video! Suggestion that I learned from a local John Deere mechanic (40+ years), remove the screen plug first. This may ensure most of the debris/shavings that have accumulated on the screen are removed with the screen and don't fall off screen when the lower drain plug is removed. If the lower plug is removed first, the flow of hydraulic fluid/gravity may loosen some of the debris off the screen and this debris could remain in the tractor after all plugs/screens/filter element are replaced. Also, I use a long tool recovery magnet in the screen area and slowly get any additional metal shavings. Hope this helps.

I have a 830 Jd pretty much exactly same tractor busted my thumb breaking the plug loose on screen also. The brass is from the breaks coming apart on the screen. Filter will be full or it also

Hopefully this helps with my 2030. Haven't had it for too long and it came with the property. Really solid tractor but when you run the pto for long periods of time the hydraulics will randomly stop working until you turn the pto off for a second. I believe its the filter and screen causing the problem but I haven't had time to dive into it. Hopefully this winter though that will change

I would flush again, you have water in the system. Usually takes 2-3 times of new fluid to get it clean.. Any black material on the screen would be brakes, metal it not good. Something is failing, only a matter of time.

That's going to leave a Mark. That was funny, sorry but the way you said it cracked me up. The way that screen and fluid looks it appears the hydraulic fluid has never been changed. Well at least you learned how the filter comes off for next time. Great job.

I’ve learnt so much on your videos. I own a 1830 John Deere and it’s exactly like the 2020. I have a question: have you done a video on putting a light / wiring hook up video? I look forward to your response.
@WorldsOkayestFarmer
@WorldsOkayestFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
I have videos adding lights but i dont know if i show the wiring. Not much to it . Use the existing switch or add one. Two wires to the switch. Two wires to the light the switch is usually labeled on the back. From the battery or you can tie into an existing switch

I am considering a JD 300 Backhoe. It is basically the same as a JD 2020. My Screen is on the other side of the housing, and I can not seem to get it out, at all! My fluid drain was a few quarts of clear water, then it transitioned into that Light Brown stuff you had! ! Since the Gear Shift Rubber Boots are toast, and it has been sitting in the weather, it had a LOT of water! I was told that has to be covered, and the Rubber Boots intact, by my local JD Dealership? How water can get into a closed system, is beyond me? It gives me hope that I can get this thing going! The last it was ran was over a year ago. The 86 Year old owner passed away, and the Sons had No Idea of what maintenance was! I sure hope I can rescue it! Now to figure out how to fix the Inoperable Brakes....anyone seen a Video on how to do that, perhaps? I think I have to break the Case and replace Hard Parts Galore! Thanks for posting this up!

The entire transmission and engine cavities are painted with a type of primer that is supposed to help seal the castings and promote fluids (engine oil and hydraulic fluid) flowing back into the sump for filtering and return to the system. I don't think it has been changed in a very long time. Had to do the same thing to mine. Just flush everything and replenish with good oil.

When you say that you are a idiot on tape , it's usually down hill from there . You're in the military or were in the service. You know the deal , " prior proper planning prevents piss-poor performance " , and no busted fingers. Hey when you bought the front wheel assist John Deere in Penn Yan N.Y. from the Mennonite on Preemption RD. When you pulled out of the driveway, that little brown house at the end of the drive is one of my best friends house , he's an old biker like me , we all call him Beagle, I won't go into that . But if you would have turned left and went into town , went south to Bath N.Y. then west on 87 , nice new road straight over to Erie Pa. I see you ride a hog , my brother's 67 yrs old he has two shovel heads and building a evo . I have a 04 Suzuki 83 c.i. v-twim with 200,000 mi. on it , I need to do a couple of things to it before it goes back on the road . But hey , read that shop manual youngblood, you might need those digits later !!!!!

Bryan Covert Hey thanks! When I bought that tractor I came into Penn Yan the way you described but it was the first time towing that tractor and I didn’t want to pull that big long hill coming into town so we went north to 90! That’s cool you guys all ride! Thanks for watching!
