I gotta say this! I think doing something like competitive builds with the MCM boys would be far more appropriate than the MCM RoadKill one. You seem far more compatible than the folks from the So Cal drag racing scene. It also amuses me that you guys come from the land of snow and ice, while that stuff is entirely unknown for the MCM guys, unless they travel outside of Australia. Even in colder southern Australia, there never is snow. No "Americans" (like me), just guys from two members of the Commonwealth, the Aussies versus the Canucks or vice versa as you might prefer. Keep growing your viewership!

might wanna check which way those lines go around guys... usually the line that comes out at a 45 degree angle goes to calipers, line that comes out at 90 degrees goes to either the master or the fluid res. if using twin caliper system.

I'm looking at that same hydro brake for my project. The existing one that came in my car is cheap and in a bad location, so I'm going to get the Sikky one and try to hide it under my center console next to the original cable e-brake. trying to keep the interior as clean looking as possible, while keeping the functionality. oh and I'm super jealous of this build, I love Celicas (except for the 7th gen).

great work Ken ,good to see you back operating :-). I have fitted a hydraulic handbrake to my car and I think you need to check the way you have piped the cylinder , they work opposite to the way you think ie the line from the front of the car goes to the back of the cylinder. the flat horizontal area is where you would fit the resoviour if your not doing a pass thru system.
@shiftyrx76 жыл бұрын
Webster Gough thank you! Yeah ill take the heat on this one, should be easy enough to switch lines or make new ones if i need to.
@smoke99756 жыл бұрын
You could use a spring pin that goes through the handle and the base so that it locks the hydro handle up ( putting pressure on the system) and being a spring pin it will only re engage when the hydro is pulled up in the position that you want it to act as a handbrake and when you want to release just pull the pin back and it will release the handle into no holding mode.
@PoorManMods6 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah I got a SIKKY hydro brake in my MK3 too and love it. Two things though, I believe you have the ports mixed up. The rear most port on the master in the IN and the front most fitting is the OUT. Also in my experience hydro brakes do not work well as parking brakes, even if you use a locking mechanism the master will lose pressure over time and then your car will start to roll, ask me how i know lol. Keep up the good work!
@speedacademy6 жыл бұрын
We do have the ports mixed up, good eye! Thanks for that, and good to know about it not working well as a parking brake. We'd definitely only use it that way for short stops at The Stag Shop.

As I mentioned to Adam LZ, these are hydraulic hand brakes, they don't use water so can't be Hydro! 'Hydro' is combining form meaning “water,” used in the formation of compound words like hydroplane; hydrogen; Hydropower etc

Nice job, i want one of those drift hand brakes too. I am pretty sure you cannot use them as a parking brake as they will not hold pressure for extended time. You can always prove me wrong. Just beware your car might roll away one night when you are sleeping haha,
@speedacademy6 жыл бұрын
Ya we asked Sikky about it and they don't include a locking mechanism on their hydro e-brakes because if there was a small leak in the system the car could roll away. We don't plan on using it as a parking brake for extended periods, but we may still rig something up so we can use it as a parking brake in a pinch.

So how can you use that as a parking brake? I worry too much about leaks, I guess. That Celica is an odd choice for a fun sporty car, because if memory serves, it was an under powered, under steering dog when new. I'm sure you will make a "silk purse" out of it.
@mondomoleno.34046 жыл бұрын

Seriously reconsider your spacer to use one that has the hub centric option!
@speedacademy6 жыл бұрын
It centers on the studs so its all good.
@o0FUZ0o6 жыл бұрын
It's not just the spacer centering, but the rim then missing the fitment to the hub. Relying on the studs to center the wheel will result in wheel vibrations at certain speeds, but will probably be less noticeable due to being on the rear... It all depends on the ID and OD between the hub and the rim, where normally a rim would employ a plastic hub centric ring to mate the two. The spacer often makes the hub centric redundant, so you should option the spacer with the correct hub centric fitment to ensure the rim fits well still. I used very similar spacers as you've used and this was the problem I came across until I swapped :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3WseKKEYtaAras (video I referenced when looking for my solution)

Can you use a Hydro e-brake like a normal e-brake? I always heard that they weren’t made for that. Hence why they use cable instead of hydraulic. I could be wrong.
@ianm4326 жыл бұрын
Cody Heizler you can, they won't hold pressure for an extended amount of time as fluid will eventually bypass the seals and line pressure will drop. For what dave is going to do with it will be fine though.

Ian McDonald Well there ya go. Thanks for clearing that up.

How much oil does the internet think is going to blow from a relatively stock NA 4 cylinder?
@speedacademy6 жыл бұрын
lol we agree but in the end we have shorter routing and a better slope to the lines, so all good in our books. Any oil pooling in the lines would get blown out at high RPM, but it never hurts to encourage the oil to flow either to the can or back to the engine rather than having a trap in the middle of the lines like we had.

One of the biggest issues with custom brakes, is clearing the wheel. WHY did someone build an e-brake adapter that sticks out like that? Knowing that it's for an aftermarket brake system, they should have designed something that doesn't stick out that far.
