In this video I share my thoughts after pairing the Axis Spitfire 1180 with two different rear stabs.

Great test. Thanks! I would have never predicted that the 460 would require more energy and less time in pumping than the skinny with the 1180.

Not at all what I expected either! I'll be curious if the same will apply to the 1150 and 1310. Some of it, I'm sure, is a lack of experience with the 460 paired with the 1180, but surprising nonetheless.

Great comparison, to the point. When you get on wake with the 1180, would be good to know how the different rear wings do there as well

Good idea! I've only had the 1180 in the wake with the skinny so far and it has felt much looser than the 1150 paired with the 460. Still think it's too much wing though. Would like to get a smaller spitfire or PNG910b.

Well now I guess I need to try my skinny 45 with my 1180 next!! I do know I upped my pump duration by going from a 425P to a 350P and I like that it loosens the entire rig by dropping rear sizes🤙😎 Digging your content!! Keep em coming!!

Thanks for all your vids. Which rear is better for dead starting the 1180?

Absolutely, happy to share! The 460 rear made the 1180 easier to dead start, but not as fun to pump due to the drag.

I tried to learn on the 1201 but it was super hard as you need a very fast start. Now I have my 1180 (primarily for winging) I want to commit to learning to dock start it (I know the 1150 would be easier but I don't want a red fuse). So my question for you is which tail wing do you think is ***the easiest to learn on***? Between 460 pump v2, Skinny 45 and Progressive 400. Also run start vs. jump start comparison. I would expect a slower stall speed with the 460 and thus it might be easier to learn with and then I can swap to the skinny 45. I don't have very good access to launches where I live though, so usually I just go winging or kite.

Between those two the 460 would be easier to learn to launch with as it is more stable in roll and requires a little less speed than the skinny to get going. I can't speak on the progressives, but someone else may know that comparison. I would recommend a running dockstart since dead starting is a bit more difficult with the 1180 in my experience. I will be testing a dead start with both tails tomorrow for a future video. Hope this helps!

Hello, thought I’d share some thoughts 🤓 What fuse are you using? I’ve made big gains going to the sillyshort atm. Your vid doesn’t surprise me… I’m now using the 35skinny for my big foil setups 1401 1180 etc Going back to fuse lengths my take is that you gain a huge leverage advantage by using shorter fuses. By going down in fuse length with all else being the same, it requires far less energy to pump the system. The down side is any heavy pump inputs are wasted as they are so leveraged they will just push through… I havnt experimented yet because I love being free of drag with the 35… but getting the most from a bigger rear foil like in your vid, it might need to be leveraged with a shorter fuse. It will remove the heavy feeling from the pump vs the skinny feeling you currently enjoying. You’ll likely get the projection you were expecting from the bigger rear foil, without it costing the extra energy your also experiencing. 🤙🤙

Appreciate the insight! Right now I'm using the UltraShort Advanced+ and it's been super nice so far. Interesting about going shorter on the fuses, I may need to look into that! I'm curious how big of a difference going from a 50 to a 35 skinny would be. Thoughts?

@@FoilFanatic42 I’m chatting to Dylan tonight and I’ll try get his professional insight for you but from me: It would be a worth while difference in my opinion, I can now notice the drag between each of the sizes. The biggest factor will be a shorter fuse, it will completely change your setup. If I were you I’d invest in a fuse over a new rear to start and I’d suggest the sillyshort but even the crazy would be good and less of a learning curve.

@downwind_drifter1040 I appreciate it! Perhaps I should just go all the way to the silly short since it sounds like I would end up there anyways. You said it makes the pumping easier, but do you think it will make the pumping duration change? I assume with the shorter fuse, it would increase frequency?

@@FoilFanatic42 it will require a technique modification of some sort. It is a steeper tighter arc through the water and mast height is gained far quicker, with less energy, and it suits the bigger foils. It is saving me a lot of energy in the bumps as I can stay away from the heavier anaerobic style of pump, I am now getting more motion for less energy. I think you should try it out. Make sure to stay with the advanced plus. If you do, send me a link to the vid! I’m subscribed now but don’t want to miss seeing your results.

It would be useful if you can always include FULL gear list and body weight with all these videos, an easy copy/paste. That context is important for viewers. For example, I’m wondering about your mast height here.
@FoilFanatic42
@FoilFanatic42 Ай бұрын
Sometimes doing that leads to less engagement, but I understand your point! It's the 75cm mast.

I started with the /50 skinny and move down to the /40 one, they are all pretty much the same width, chord goes down by 5mm each time. They need a bit more precision to balance more on the front wing alone but you get more glide and can regain height more efficiently (and thus can glide again) I have just started with the 250 progressive rear wing too, it unlocks roll capability too and is only a bit less fast than the skinny, can recommend if you want it more playful!

Interesting take! I wonder if the 250 progressive would make dead starts easier too? That would be a nice in between feature imo.
