2 things we see right away. Although the SE foil is a Top Brand, You got the SE300, that is too small for your boat weight. There's an SE400 with more surface area for lift pressure. #2: Everyone forgets that once you install a Wing, You become a Pilot, you must now Aim that wing with motor trim up or down to dive or lift, and adjust as your speed increases or decreases. Those that say they didn't notice a difference, or that it actually slowed their boat, did not aim the wing, and/or were using an inferior knockoff product. Stick with the SE brand, get the right size for the weight and even go 1 size larger if possible, it will get that lead ass out of the water. Trim tabs only change leveling stability by asserting down force against the water surface, thus creating drag and losing performance, not a good option. Stick with the SE foils. 35 years in business, several hundred installed, only 2 returned, (they used them as a ladder step and broke...no no) 👍😁👍

Thanks, I appreciate your tips man. I didn't realize that this one is rated for a smaller boat. I got it for basically half price so I decided to grab it. If you watch the end of the video I did talk about trimming up and down. But I guess I should have talked more about it. Yes, trim up until you get to that sweet spot. The hydrofoil has been great. Maybe I'll try out an SE400 to see if there's any difference and do a video on it in the future. Thanks again for the tip and comment

@@907dan5 With a hydrofoil on the drive, whether it be an outboard or an I/O its now transferring vertical lift to the drive. This is placing stress on the mounting bracket of an outboard, or the transom collar of an I/O. Neither of these were really designed to handle vertical force. Trim tabs, whether they are smart tabs, electric or hydraulic are all mounted directly on the hull. The hull handles the force of the vertical lift, not the drive components.

To be honest I've never tried one on a small motor like that so I couldn't tell you for sure. That is one nice looking hydrofoil! Newbie boater here.. I have a 14' SIB dinghy so for me, it might be different but.. How does one know when the boat is on plane? Is it by the water pattern the propeller leaves on plane vs not on plane or simply by feeling the bow come down?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the technical answer is, but for me it's always been when you feel the bow rest down, you're on plane and it's time to to set your trim up a touch. I didn't like the white at first, but I loved it now since you can see it clearly when you're swimming around the stern drive. Makes for a good step as well! Even though they say you're not supposed to step on it.

I've just recently got the SE Sport 200 for my mercury 15hp 4 stroke. It was driving me "nuts" to know where to place the rubber washers. In between the hydrofoil and cavitation plate? or underneath the cavitation plate followed by small washers and lock nuts? The package came with bugger all instructions. Cant even get onto the official SE Sports website. And other KZbin videos out there show them putting the bolts in from underneath the cavitation plate with the nuts and metal washers on top. Christ I wish someone could set the record straight. I even phoned a marine outlet and they told me to place the rubber washers on top of the hydrofoil and then thread the bolts thru. Unbelievable.That's darn crazy. Anyways I like what you have done and so I shall place them in between the hydrofoil and cavitation plate. However does this not leave a sliver of a gap? What about having them go underneath followed by metal washers and nuts? Any Nasa or Aeronautical engineers out there please feel free to comment. 😃
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 4 жыл бұрын
I feel like in between makes most sense especially since the mating surfaces are not perfectly conformed to each other. The rubber soaks up the variation. Not really too concerned with The Gap. Seems to work well

@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 4 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. I should have went into more detail about that in the video. The trim is the angle that the stern drive is at. Probably best to just look up another video about trim to fully understand it honestly. Always trim all the way down to get the boat up on plane and then slightly trim up for Optimum performance once on plane. And trim up in Shallow Waters slow speed. But not too far up because then that causes damage to the U-joints
