Just wondering, have you done this with other thicknesses, and how were the results? Is 1mm the most practical thickness for this (flexibility of the sheet metal, cracking, etc)?
@ConnorHolland3 жыл бұрын
1mm has good balance between flexibility, weld-ability and cost. 2mm didn't inflate as much and is double the cost, and thinner metal would be harder to weld and weaker.
@amishtandon24574 жыл бұрын
hi , can the same be done on stainless steel? how much pressure is required to inflate such products? thanks in advance

Yes, I have seen many products made from inflated stainless steel. It requires low pressure, a bicycle pump would be enough for inflation.

Hey! I'm impressed by the graphite finishing on those parts! But I was wondering, how can you "fix" the graphite into/onto the paint? Does it mixes itself with the paint , or does it just stick to it? And also, does it hold well in time without any varnish or another protective layer? Thanks a lot!
@TheChasseuralpin133 жыл бұрын
+1 Interested as well
@ConnorHolland3 жыл бұрын
The graphite embeds itself into the paint and becomes part of it. They still look brand new, but you could always use a clear coat for items which are constantly touched.
@sphygo2 жыл бұрын
The part I found most interesting is that coating of graphite powder. That is something I've played around with for dry lubrication and seen it stain all sorts of things, but I would never have thought to use it to finish a project and give it such a beautiful grey mirrored finish. It looks amazing! I wonder what other materials that will work with... I'm thinking for use in prop making mostly, faking a metallic finish can be pretty challenging so I'll have to keep this in mind and give it a try sometime.

I found the technique though prop sword & helmet making videos, and it should work on any smooth surface painted gloss black

What gauge is the steel? 20? And can you clear coat after the graphite is put on?
@ConnorHolland4 жыл бұрын
I use 1mm thick steel. You could clear coat for extra protection, but the graphite doesn't rub off and I wouldn't want to lose any reflectivity of the surface
