It certainly sounds like the most modern tennis ball machine. My worry is the durability. With optical sensors and Wi-Fi modules. The question is how repairable is it. Say the optical sensor or Wi-Fi module stops working will it still work.

I own 2 other ball machines (Tennis Tutor) and just bought the Proton. This is the most innovative use of technology. It's super light and I can program so many custom shots on my iPhone. I found only 1 issue. It's so super-light that after a few balls, the machine does move (drift) a little and the shots would favor one side more than the other. I will try to find a way to fix the drift. Other than the drift issue, if you want to improve your tennis quickly using modern technology, this is the best machine money can buy.

I use my ryobi tool batteries, 6AH. Uses brushless motor so motors should last a while. So far my experience with it has been good. Easy to transport around and the custom programming is great.

Does it look sturdy. And does the ball come as fast as 70mph. Also is the battery a generic battery?
@PapayBmet2 жыл бұрын
@@timmark4190 yeah seems durable so far. I did not measure the max speed but it’s fast enough to get good training. I’ve only used ryobi 18vdc tool batteries and works, it clicks and fits nicely in the battery compartment without issues. My 4ah battery drains to 2 bar after about 8 cycles of 75 ball feeds, about 1.5 hrs of workout. If you plan to play more, maybe good to have a spare. The pivot does drift to one side due to recoil so I make adjustment to the machine after two cycles which is not too bad. I think the new firmware update has a correction factor for this issue but I have not tried it yet. So far I’m very satisfied. I can carry everything: rackets, machine, balls, and ball picker together all at once and the custom programs you can setup scenarios to target your weakness and improve on it.

I have one but find it's too light, hence it drifts, as reported by many users. I have to keep adjusting it every time I fill it with more balls, as advised by Proton. Also, the optical sensor is going to be an issue as it's too easy to get covered by ball fuzz then the machine won't work. Old technology. No ball machine uses that anymore. You can't do lobs as it only shoots balls less than half as high as the Lobster or Spinfire. I tried taking it apart and gave up so DIY repairs are a struggle. I also tried it on a grass court and it wouldn't even oscillate. Probably won't do well on clay either. Only a 1 year warranty which tells you a lot about the durability. You can get up to 5 years on the Lobster and Proton. The app is great though.

@@Secretasianman969 So putting aside the fact that I'm a broke grad student who doesn't have the disposable income to drop on one of these, there are a few concerns I would want tested over a year's time. First of all, as hypothetically mentioned in the video, if someone brought this to work and left it in a car, how does the machine stand up against prolonged exposure to heat. I live in GA and the interior of a car gets brutally hot during spring/summer days, even if it's not in direct sunlight. Secondly, I hope I'm wrong about this, but I've grown the habit of being skeptical of a motor that will fit in that machine that size, but is advertised as powerful enough to shoot tennis balls up to 70MPH. If I remember correctly, the Slinger bag, which is twice the size, can't even do 70 MPH. Supposing this explains why this machine is close to twice the price, I'm still not sure I'm convinced. Although not everybody needs the machines that can shoot balls at higher speeds, those that want them are likely going to be more willing to buy the larger ones from companies like Lobster. The Liberty Elite (the 2nd cheapest elite machine from lobster) is several hundred dollars cheaper. Although not as small as the hydrogen proton, the liberty elite is modular enough to ease the transport of it, and the lobster site advertises the machine accurately, the liberty can shoot form 10mph-80mph. Other than being able to bring it with you to work so you don't have to stop at home, I'm not sure I understand the justification for the price. Oh, and also, Lobster can keep their machines in stock (jk... sort of; tennis sites suggested that they had a bit of a challenge in 2020/21 likely due to part/supply issues, but they seem to be back on their game.)
@Secretasianman9692 жыл бұрын
@@mrhiggins1176 , not sure how you want me to answer your concerns. Everyone’s fiscal condition is theirs to deal with. If you can’t afford this machine, it doesn’t mean that any machine isn’t worth it’s price. I owned a Slinger and I was a Kickstarter customer and bought 2 for $229 each. I sold each of those for over $500 each. I didn’t see their value even at that $200+ level because the spin was so topsided and the motor would shoot balls so erratically that it would frustrate me every time I used it. Would it frustrate you, I don’t know? Now, if you can’t fathom the Proton can function in the way it is advertised, I can attest to the fact that it does. I have owned it since February and have loved it from day one. With respect to how it will hold up in the heat in a hot car in GA, I couldn’t help you with that. I’m fairy sure the body is made out of polycarbonate and is of good quality. You might want to Google the ability of polycarbonate to withstand extreme heat. Good luck.
