Did you drop the bike? It doesn't seem deep enough to suck water through the air intake. Agree on LC models to be better in this regard with an air intake on the top of the gas tank.
@MotoCampAdventure6 жыл бұрын
No, I actually rolled right through. Where you see the bike in the beginning of the video is where it locked up on me. I think my issue was actually just my inexperience with water crossings that deep. I hit it way too hard and caused a massive bow wave to roll over my head haha. That almost certainly was the reason as I've rolled through this water crossing before on my R1150GS, which has the same height intake from what I know.
@motolover56976 жыл бұрын
Yes, it must had been a wave or a splash to the air intakes.

@@MotoCampAdventure did you relocate the Cardan ventilation? Because if you pass from rivers or deep eater you should have done it.
@MotoCampAdventure6 жыл бұрын
@@oceanadex No, I hear that's more of a problem with the liquid cooled bikes. I did change the oil out on the final drive right after this just to be sure, but there was no obvious water in the final drive. Definitely worth looking into though. California rarely has enough water to cross to even consider these things most of the time haha

This comment alone makes all of the effort of recording, editing and uploading this video worth it. One thing I left out (which you may see in the comments) is that I hit this water crossing with way too much speed. If I slowly rolled through this water crossing, I would have made it without a problem. I did it on my R1150GS which has the same air intake design at the same height. Thanks for watching!

My old 1200 Gs and current 1290 SA go through 2ft deep river crossings with no issues. If that flooded paver area got you HLd, I’m not sure what to say.

I went too fast through it.

What ADV bike do you have now. ?. Sold my 1150 GSA, went to a V-Strom.. Great Bike.. and then to a KLR.... sold that brick... and now ride a Honda Rally... love it..

2010 R1200GS (non-adventure version). I had a ton of issues with that GSA for whatever reason. This one has been much nicer to me so far.

Just a puddle , how? Been through a lot deeper on same model. Crazy daisy

I hit it with way too much speed. Believe me, I was really surprised too. I had gone through that on my R1150GS before with no issue.

"Adventure" bike..."Adventure" rider... 6 inches of water...Water wins?
@MotoCampAdventure4 жыл бұрын
Definitely more than 6 inches my man, but sure. I hit this at speed and made a bow wave that literally went over my head. The intake does sit low on this bike and the large gas tank wraps around the intake which is a terrible design for doing specifically what I did. If I hit it at a slow speed I would have had zero issue here. The water cooled R1200 and R1250GSs have a much higher intake.

If you cant cross that puddle with a GS I'd say the bike is useless for off road riding. Shocking! Makes me glad I bought the F800GS.
@MotoCampAdventure6 жыл бұрын
I hit it with way too much speed and in normal circumstances this wouldn't have been an issue. Still, a snorkel is pretty easy to make. You can ride whatever you choose to ride. 2013-present R1200GS's have a much higher intake.
@f18a6 жыл бұрын
Wow. Is the BMW 1200GS that poor an adventure bike or do you just have some kind of curse? Regardless, your videos and those of Adam Chandler have caused me to scratch the BMW 1200GS series from any consideration as an ADV bike. Perhaps the 800/850GS is more ADV-worthy. On the other hand, I've really enjoyed your candid and unassuming dialog. Well done in that regard.
@MotoCampAdventure6 жыл бұрын
The F800GS is definitely a more off road oriented bike than the 1200s are, but not by much honestly. The inverted forks on those are better suited for harsher terrain. The intake on these R1200GS's are now way higher on the water cooled bikes (mid 2013-present). I've actually gone through the same water crossing on my old R1150GS with no issue, even though the intake was as low as this one is. I think my biggest issue here was that I hit it way too fast and had a bow wave that literally went over my head. That probably pushed a bunch of water right into the intake. With all of that said, people make their own snorkels for these bikes rather easily with some flexible tubing, so I would never let this be a deal breaker for the oil cooled bikes. I mean, you saw that I bought my brother's without hesitation. You just have to know the limitations of the bike is all.

That's not good,,your spark plug washers could have been crushed by impact wrench or just smashed by being too tight.This will suck water into engine like a pump because of bad seal around plugs., always carry extra new plugs.Check your heads to make sure spark plug threads are not damaged .jus sayinn. Torque wrench is a must !--☆

@@cheetah694 You can comment, but this particular comment has a claim. a claim is worthless without credibility. if that's not a prerequisite then anyone can just bash somebody and we should just take your word for it? grow up..its the internet. if you're down playing somebody's skill, you better have something to back it up.
@cheetah6946 жыл бұрын
You've got it wrong altogether. I'm not downplaying anyone's skill. At the end, the author of the video has made the crossing. But it's by no means a deep or technical crossing, and you can see it just by how easily a minivan makes it. I don't have to post a video of me crossing the river to back it up. If it's not evident for you, well, sorry about that. You can find a lot of videos on KZbin where a motorcycles goes almost till the saddle under the water but keeps running. That is impressive!
