Letter from Airman Fritz Hammer to Junkers -Flugzeugwerk
Dessau- Germany
Subject: Air transport by sea.
Letter from the German aviator Fritz Hammer from Colombia to the Junkers factory in Germany informing him of his arrival at SCADTA with the two Junkers F13 aircraft and how the unpacking and assembly processes were carried out.
The Sociedad Colombo-Alemana de Transporte Aéreo (SCADTA), founded in 1919, had acquired its first two Junkers F13 aircraft, with which it would begin its commercial flight activities, using the Magdalena River as its operational route, from Barranquilla on the Atlantic coast to Girardot in the center of the country.
Their initial plans were to fly the seaplane to Girardot and from there fly up the mountain range in another Junkers F13 equipped with wheels, to reach the capital of Colombia, Bogota.
The two Junkers F-13s had been packed into two huge boxes and shipped in the steamboat "Crijussen", accompanied by aviators Fritz Hammer and Hellmuth von Krohn and engineer Wilhelm Schnurbusch. The ship arrived at Puerto Colombia, the closest seaport to Barranquilla, on August 4, 1920 and from there they were transported by rail to Barranquilla.
