Today's video is a follow up of last week's video on the disappointment we've had in Hydroponics Fodder Farming this far. I share the results of the experiment I begun, after soaking the grains in apple cider vinegar. I also share the PROS and CONS we've observed in Hydroponics Fodder Farming and the way forward for our Farm when it comes to Hydroponics Fodder Farming. Watch till the end for a surprising turn of events!
Be sure to leave us a big like when you have enjoyed the video...and join the family by SUBSCRIBING to the channel for more of such content. Thanks for watching!

From what you said, there is a lot of mistakes. Watering it in the Night is PART of the problem. It suppose to be 3times. Morning, Lunch and Evening NOT NIGHT. 7,12, 4 OR 5. Again have you thought of your TRAY? for not being flat instead of it being zigzag. have you considered that option? from all the fodder tray that l have seen, all are using flat tray be it plastic or aluminium.

all the comments leading to to the same problem. You need to properly sanitize trays and also deal with the flying bugs that carry fungi. Purifying water for animals and plants is always a challenge. Remember, everything in Africa is tougher than in other parts of the world. Read up on biosafe fungicides and algaecides. It will give you good ideas for solving your problem. Education and implementation are so important. I found that almost every country has at least one genius who works in the government, but most people do not ask for advice. And usually, when one person has a problem, there are many with the same problem.

Don't give up use flat trays because those trays hold water in those ridges and causes water retention which causes the seeds to rot and leads to mold. don't use anything else just water and flat trays you are over complicating things.

Thanks for the video showing your experiment. Today is my first attempt to try barley sprouting for chickens and I'm looking at every video on the subject. I am going to try a few drops of bleach in the first soak (we use Rosy brand at home as it's cheap, but has the same active ingredient) and I am going to soak them straight in the bucket rather than use a gunny bag. The barley I got here in Nakuru had a lot of floating seeds, maybe 10-15%, when I washed a few handfuls in a bucket. I read that they should be removed as a potential source of damaged grain that won't sprout and can go mouldy. Good luck with your farm and thanks again for sharing your insights.

@@oak_farm4286 I am a few weeks in now to feeding chickens sprouted barley. They like it best at 6 days from first soaking when the green shoots are small, but I took some to 8 days when experimenting without any mould. My process is... Day 1 Morning. Tip my loose grains into a bucket of water, give them a good swirl and let it settle. Scoop off anything that is floating (usually about 10% of the grains, some stalks and a couple of dudus, I throw this waste to my chickens who happily eat it). Drain the water, tip the grains into a freshly washed (with bar soap) container that has a lid. Pick out anything you can easily see is not a good barley grain. Cover it with water about an inch deeper than the grains and put in about 5-10 drops of bleach (I use Rosy brand which is 3.65% sodium hypochlorite, Jik is 3.5% sodium hypochlorite and much more expensive for the same active ingredient). Day 1 Late Afternoon. Drain the water, rinse with fresh water, pick out anything that doesn't look like a good grain (I usually find some broken grains, grass seeds and a dudu or 2), drain again, replace the lid. Day 2 Morning. Rinse with fresh water, drain, replace the lid. Day 2 Late Afternoon. Rinse with fresh water, drain, replace the lid. Day 3 Morning. Tip the grain onto a freshly cleaned sprouting tray (I use Kenpoly Bamboo trays as I only do 250g per day), water and drain, cover loosely with clear plastic (I use bread packets or toilet paper packets that I cut along the seams to make big rectangles). Day 3 Late Afternoon. Water and drain the grains, replace the plastic cover. Day 4 Morning. Water and drain the grains, replace the plastic cover. Day 4 Late Afternoon. Water and drain the grains, replace the plastic cover. Day 5 Morning. Water and drain the grains, leave the tray open. I then just water the grains late afternoon and morning until they are ready. It's quite a lot of work for me with just 10 chickens as it's only replacing 500g of bought food per day which is around 35 shillings, so once I deduct the cost of barley I am only saving ~15 shillings per day. I will probably continue though as they seem to like it and it gives them some food variety.

@@russellpengilley5924 wow...this is a very elaborate process you've shared with us. It's great that you've discovered a method that's working perfectly, and your chicken are obviously enjoying the fruits of your hard labour...thanks for sharing. All the best. I believe many who want to get to growing their own fodder can learn and adopt your process.

I will guess that water is your problem. Over watering will definitely be a source of rot and mold combined with the trays not being flat bottomed. But I like your videos they are very instructive

Use bleach, also rinse out well after 4 hours. Also, always wash the trays after each batch with bleach and rinse thoroughly with clean water.

From what i can see in the video.. there are allot of things that you do that is wrong and cause the mold and fungus to spread. Use flat trays! Clean the ground from those molded and infested barley! They will spread ... the room has to be ventilated so that fresh air can come in, and the temperature should be stable as well as the humidity.

Wheat need less water to germinate. Others wise it causes fungas , corn need mor water to germinate

The causes for mould in hydroponic fodder: 1. Longer soaking hours 2. Structure built incorrectly hence more humidity and/or high temperatures 3. Contaminated water 4. Broken seeds, rotted seeds 5. Poor drainage in the root zone of the fodder

You doing it the wrong way, breach soaking the seeds for 30 minutes and then rinsing will solve ur fungi problem

Too much wetness causes mould, I think you should put more hole for water drainage into the trays. Second reason might be too much of seeds in one tray causing it to mould. Try with just one tray and see if that works before closing it down. Its rainy season already, water them 2 times a day

Yeah ,a bigger tray from juakali too costly, 2 kg tray 4 feet by 1 feet by 1.5 inch depth to make 8 kg from juakali about 550 ....improve aeration, rinse with small amount of chroline ... maintain high hygiene .. when watering not to contaminate
