Happy new year! i hope your new year is filled with many great crops with nanoized nutrition! ...grow switch full on is nanoized humic acid and nectar for the gods ph up is filled with nanoized tech. that's about all i got with the nano info. nanoized silica i see...very nice. I'm trying D.M. silica right now. it's ok but i want try the RAW silica next, its very concentrated and is ph neutral. any silica brands you suggest?

Thank you for your fast response, also, I'm very curious about oxygen diffusers using electrolysis vs air pumps they are claiming 30% yield increase. I have not seen any proof of this. also the electrolysis method is said to release heavy metals into the water. my question then is if it is a significant enough amount to be concerned about? or would regular resivor changes take care of that. what effects would that have on your PH/Nutrients?

First of all, Everest, Thankyou. Your videos are always helpful and informative. With the explosion of new LED systems coming to the market, answer me this: Why are grow lights always measured by the power they draw rather than their light output? Surely a 600-watt LED will throw far more light than a 600-watt HPS ... Right Wouldn't it make more sense to rate these based on lumens? I'm a photographer. We measure light in F-stops, this means light from the sun, LED panels, speedlites and studio strobes can all be measured universally. If we tried to measure based on power consumption, we'd be all over the place. Wouldn't it make more sense to say "This is a 1200Lumen 6500k light" instead of this is a 600 watt light? Sure include power consumption so growers can match the light to their grow room, but I find it incredibly confusing. I hear things like, "You'll need at least a 1000 watt light" but a 1000 watt what? HPS? LED? Help a newbie out, Everest.
@Just4Growers

Stuart Moncrieff Welcome amigo and thanks so much for your question. Many lamp and fixture manufacturers state their products' outputs in lumens. As you know, lumens ultimately refers to the sum of photons reaching the human eye and, as such, their values are weighted according to the human eye's sensitivity curve to light. It peaks at around 555 nm -- the human eye is over 250 times more sensitive to this (green) light than it is to deepest violet for example. But, of course, we are growing plants (not taking photos) so more recently manufacturers have started stating their lamps' outputs in PPF (photosynthetic photon flux) - this is total output - then there is PPFD (PPF density) which accounts for the reflector - both are a measure of PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) which counts photons (within the plant sensitivity range, typically 400-700 nm). Crucially PAR counts all photons as equal - so think of a rectangle instead of a bell curve! Is a rectangle better than a bell curve? Is either better than stating watts? Well - what all these parameters lack is an appreciation of spectral distribution - as it's not just the raw photon numbers that count (a low pressure sodium lamp can have a very high PAR but it wouldn't be great for growing plants!) YPF (yield photon flux) weights each photon according to plant sensitivity and this is arguably the direction we need to head in. Some manufacturers use the term "full spectrum" to indicate that all the color groups are present (hence we see it as "white" light) whereas the human lighting world more commonly uses CRI (color rendition index). Ultimately Stuart we are trying to mimic the Sun's radiation as it hits the leaves, stems, buds , fruits and flowers of our favorite plants in their natural habitat throughout an ideal season. Growers are accustomed to talking in watts, usually to give a snapshot of the scale of the growing operation. As for anything else, just the size of your power bill. :)

When I first started using a 300 watt LED for vegging I was not optimistic. It was 90 bucks off Amazon, so there's no way it would be similar to vegging under a 600 watt MH. Boy was I wrong. Now I buy a couple every months and added 1200 watt for flowering. It truly is amazing. You are going to love it, but not nearly as much as your plants will. I predict you will use a hybrid system and throw 1200 watt LED or more WITH DE HID and your power bill will still go down. It's been a year since I switched, and I'm still freaked out about how cool it is.

Steven Brennan Thanks Steven, but it's still a little expensive for me. Same bag in the States is $14.53 about £11.82. To have that shipped from the states would probably cost a lot. It's still going to cost a lot to have it shipped from the UK to Finland.

I'm interested in the nano silica product you mentioned. You said silicone dioxide from Openlabs. I've search the net and found some silicone dioxide. Are they all the same or do we need horti grade? More info please!

+MrPebaa hi MrPebaa - you should go half strength for DWC for sure. Yes that's a pic of yours truly :) You need the nanoparticles "wrapped" in aminos for them to become optimally plant available so go for something designed for hort / hydro rather than generic.

+Everest Fernandez greetings! I tried to PM you but figure others are curious. Where can we find more information such as "wrapping" in amino acids etc. Many of us are really wanting to give these nanos a try or at least where to research further for horticulture purposes. Thanks! Love your vids!
