Thank you for such a detailed, non biased review. In the military one of the gyms had a rower with a simple stick figure on a boat as a pace boat and it was very motivating for me. I'd been searching for a comparable feature for decades and all along the Concept2 had it.

I love the concept2 rowerg! It's amazing. It's going to last a long time, I worry about the other one as electronics fail frequently.

That's a valid concern about the Hydrow! The Concept2 is definitely the tried and true rower that athletes and fitness enthusiasts have come to love!

I’m seriously thinking of replacing my C2 with the Hydrow. The interactive video with the Hydrow really seems to be the difference that appeals to me. I don’t love that a $38/month subscription is paid indefinitely as long as I want the videos.

Similar, I've a concept 2 but want a second rower, the monthly App payment information immediately put me off the Idea. I'll buy another concept 2

My C2 E is higher 20", longer I don't hit the end with 40" inseam and can put a variety of handles on it. I use EXR app Bluetooth from PM5 and link to my TV. EXR is going to be the next Zwift....much cheaper option all around.

Very helpful information. I've had a Concept2 a long time ago and now looking to get another rowing machine. I think the Hydrow would be good as now, "my wife", will be using it and the workouts, on-screen, would help her to be and stay engaged. :) Have you considered a Hydrow vs NordicTrack RW900 comparison video?

When did rowing/exercise become entertainment? The C2 checks all the boxes if you want a workout. Since Concept 2 has already perfected the concept (pun intended), there is no point competing with them. Hydrow is forced to offer something else, in addition, at greater expense.

Thanks for the comparison video! I am comparing the Hydrow to the Ergatta now and doing a ton of research to see which one will work best for me. Just sold my Peloton bike because I'm not that into spinning though I think their content is really great.

@@strawberryyogurt0 No, I’m talking about the Ergatta, which has the screen and gamification component added to the WaterRower rower, which is very quiet. I’m not familiar with the Regatta.

@@vonettadevo ..., Yeah, I ran an internet search afterwards and found the Ergatta. I bought concept2 I think last year through Amazon. Couldn’t really decide on keeping the concept2 or returning it for the water rower. By default, after 30 days I was ‘stuck’ with the concept2 so to speak. Probably should have gone with the Water Rower because it’s quieter. The Ergatta currently has a no subscription ‘row only’ mode.

Does the chain on the C2 supposed to feel loose? I tried C2 at fitness store and either chain was loose when I pulled in and out or something. I didn’t like that loose feeling, but they had air/magnetic rower next to it and it felt so much better. Tight, constant

Great review. Do you think the Concept 2 might be too loud for someone who lives in an apartment and doesn't want to bother the neighbors?

The C2 is noisier than magnetic rowers because of the air flow through the fan blades. However, the C2 does not make a loud, thudding sound like a treadmill. It's more of a rhythmic flowing sound so I don't think it would bother neighbors as much as other machines.

Has anyone used the Hydrow as part of WODs? I imagine I’d use this mostly for a good all-body endurance workout, but a couple times a week I’d want to do rowing sprints based on meters or calories in between kettlebell or dumbbell work. Would this work on a manual or just row mode hopping on and off?

Yes, it has manual mode. It isn't as easy to just jump on and off as the Concept 2. But the Hydrow is a very comfortable and quiet rower. If you need something quiet in your home, it's a good option.

Hydrow user experience leaves a lot to be desired. The lack of ability to customize your own workouts even with a subscription is ass backwards. The fact that they sell a 2500 rower that can't even match standard gym equipment functionality with or without a subscription is hilarious. Company is far more interested in looking good than being good. Concept2 + ATV + 65" + soundbar is less, doesn't come with a monthly fee, and actually lets you do what you want.

stupid statemet - have u seen the hydrow in person it looks like a janky piece of work out equipment - if you want aesthetic go ergotta but the hydrow is $1000 more than the concept2 and look the same like a typical work out machine, $40 a month or $500 a year puts the subscription price at 50% the cost of the concept 2 which also has high resale value if you decide you want to sell it, Also have you thought about how hard it would be to service the hydrow which has all its internal components housed in a closed casing? Again concept 2 and ergatta have their mechanisms accessible for easy maintenance and thats why both are considered to be bulletproof in reliability and long term durability, But yeh ugly and huge you got it! lol sad

Huge but you can break it down when not using it. I wouldn't say it's ugly but it is loud as a lawnmower.
