This is a really good video. A lot of ppl suffer from Seasonal Depression Syndrome. Had no idea about this concept. We Canadians can learn a lot from the Danes 🇨🇦🇩🇰

Hygge is such a beautiful way of looking at life... - Northern BC

I love it! I think this has helped me so much think about how to handle winter! Northern B.C. would be so similar to Snowy Denmark!

Advice from a Dane. Hygge is not something you can or should force, then it doesn't work. There is no right way to hygge. It is what you yourself find "hyggeligt". Chips & cola and a movie (original Netflix and chill) is one way for me. Reading while snuggling a comforter, another. Or putting my feet up while at the computer, and enjoying a mug of coffee. Or a relaxed get together with a small group of friends. It seems to often include hot or cold drinks, and an intimate but relaxed atmosphere. It's all about finding out what you really like, and you doing you. Other peoples opinions on what hygge is, are just suggestions you can try out, if you don't already know what does it for you. The only way of doing it wrong, is if you aren't relaxed and enjoying yourself while doing it.

Well done! I'm Danish-Canadian raised on hygge :) It's a little funny, but for me - hygge was always understood but never really defined- you just know it. It's like trying to describe a feeling. Most Danes associate it with a small relaxed gathering of friends/family. I love that more people are getting it. Subscribing :)

Hi Britt!! Totally got that feeling after reading the book. I love that hygge can be the smallest little gathering with friends to reading a book cozied up with a storm outside. It's truly inspiring how the Danes live and just realize a good moment. Thank you so much for watching and joining my little cozy nook of the internet!

If you review that page you showed that describes how to pronounce hygge, it says to pronounce the first syllable "hue" (as in hue and color). Though, I've never heard anyone from Denmark pronounce it that way. It's really more like the vowel sound in "spooky" and the vowel sound in "tweet". Maybe more towards the "oo" than the "ee". Yeah, I know! LOL English doesn't really have vowels like that. The Nordic languages can be similar in that way to German. However one pronounces it, I live on the American side of Lake Ontario. ie long cold snowy Winters. Hygge is the way I've gotten through the last couple of Winters and am embracing it this year too! Cheers!
