I have personally not used an HOB, my mom has on 29 with one. Is does quite well

Thanks for the review. I really like how easily it starts without having to prime the pump. I did notice that over half of the bio balls were above the level of the water flow and were dry. Would this give enough surface area for the beneficial bacteria to grow? I may put the bio balls in the bottom area where the filter pads go.

You're welcome. Thanks for watching. Yes, I like the quick self prime as well. There were plenty of bio balls included. I used them all at the top to showcase how many are included. You could have less up top and more in the back or bottom area. There's plenty of room 👍

Wondering if this is safe for saltwater use, as i converted my 10 g into a Refuguim only , and don't wan to go full stump. This should help keep the siphon when the power goes out, thanks for the review!

Yeah, I'm not so sure about saltwater/marine. I just looked on Hygger's website, the manual, and the box and didn't see any info on it. That's the best thing about it, is it starts right up, even after a power outage. You're welcome! Thanks for watching 👍
