Hymn of St. Kassiani: The woman had fallen into many sins, O Lord, yet when she perceived Your divinity, she joined the ranks of the Myrrhbearing Women. In tears she brought You myrrh before Your burial. She cried, “Woe is me! For I live in the night of licentiousness, shrouded in the dark and moonless love of sin. But accept the fountain of my tears, O You Who gathered the waters of the sea into clouds. Bow down Your ear to the sighing of my heart, O You Who bowed the heavens in Your ineffable condescension. Once Eve heard Your footstep in Paradise in the cool of the day, and in fear she ran and hid herself. But now I will tenderly embrace those pure feet, and wipe them with the hair of my head. Who can measure the multitude of my sins, or the depth of Your judgments, O Savior of my soul? Do not despise Your servant in Your immeasurable mercy.

I came here as a fan of Frank Turner a 21st century musician who has written a song pertaining to Cassiani and I was intrigued to learn more. Very beautiful music (both this and his) you can read Franks lyrics here...www.google.com/search?q=the+hymn+of+kassiani+frank+turner+lyrics&oq=hymn+of+cassiani+frank&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l2j69i59.19918j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Where can I find the music for this please? So very grateful for this post. Thank you. Glory to God for all beauty he has created.
Beautifully, gorgeously performed. Are these the original harmonies from the 9th century? If they are, Cassia was *astonishingly* far ahead of her time!
@Nonny1112 Жыл бұрын
This arrangement of harmonies is by Archpriest Stephan Meholick of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in San Anselmo, CA.

Reach out to any OCA church near you. They’ll have it, they sing it every year on Either Wednesday or Thursday (depending on the church) for Holy Week. That’s tomorrow or the day after by the way if you want to see it in person :)
