If you would like to purchase one of these welders here is a link to their Amazon store amzn.to/3OyyBma They also make this welder that is both gas and flux core MiG. Here is a link to that welder.amzn.to/3vacjQ2. Here is also a link to purchase flux core wire if you need some.amzn.to/3OzB1Bi

In the future, can this be converted for with-gas operation, like the mtg175d? Outwardly, they seem to be the same machine.

Hi Joel! Funny you should ask. I had the same idea since I had a 110v gas solenoid laying around and I thought I could just wire that into the activation of the wire feed. I took the whole housing apart and when I got in there, the Mig gun receptacle at the front of the feed housing wasn’t drilled through so I would have to disassemble the whole thing and machine the housing so I could put a barb in for the gas hose. At that point I gave up since I already have a couple of Mig welders in the shop. I believe it could be done, but it was more work than I was willing to put into it. 😁👍

I purchased the Hynade MTG175SG, and turned out to be a very good inexpensive little welded. I haven't used it with Mig Shielding Gas and not sure I ever will. But as for using it with Mig/Flux wire and also the stick weld it works very well both methods. For the extra few dollars more I jumped up one category just incase I ever decide to purchase a Mig tank to use .30 solid wire. I do suspect I will someday get a Tig -Torch and a tank and also try Tig.

Hello Alek. I noticed you mentioned that you purchased the Hynade MTG175SG. I’m wanting to pick up a welder for building minibike and gokart frames. I originally was going to get the Hynade Mig140D. But like you, I figured I spend a little extra and have more options. Do you think it would be suitable for what I’m needing it for? When using the fluxcore wire, how do the welds look? Is there a lot of splatter? Thank you for your time.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't know what I am going to do right now other than send the welder back. Probably keep the harbor freight welder and just keep practicing my welding until I get comfortable with the welds. I had an experienced welder get me started and his advice was to keep practicing and play with the speed and heat. The welding he had me do was on high heat and 3 to 3 1/2 speed and the welds looked good. I have other projects that have thicker metal and by the book require speeds up to 9. I tried that and the welds looked terrible. I guess it just takes more time and practice. thanks again. regards, John

I contacted you when I ordered the 140 instead of the 165 amp welder. You gave it a good rating with just a lower amp setting. It came, I set it up. the wire would feed to get the right stick out, but would not feed fast enough when I was welding. It would burn the wire off and quit, I tightened the tension, then loosened the feeder, but the same thing happened. So I boxed it up and sent it back. I waited a week for my refund, and I checked the reviews on other writeups. the 140 was rated in the top 5 welders for beginners. So I ordered another one, it came today. The same problem, only now this one will not feed at all. I had to hand feed the wire all the way to the tip. Still no feed. the trouble shooting chatr said a faulty weld button. It looks like I am going to box this one up also and send it back. What is your opinion on this.

Hi John! Well that is certainly a pain to have to deal with and certainly doesn’t bode well for quality control. I have only had the one that I reviewed to play with so I don’t have a lot of long term experience with their mig welders. The Yeswelder 205DS is a great welder and even though it does cost more, it has been a long term high quality performer for me. I don’t do flux core welding very often in my business because of the poor appearance of the welds and I prefer Mig welding with gas because it is so much nicer. I have taught a bunch of people over the years how to weld and I always teach them with gas mig welding because they are successful very quickly and their confidence is built up. They then can build projects that they can be proud of and will last a lifetime. Flux core welding can be very frustrating for a beginner and if you have never welded before, can cause a rapid loss of motivation to do any further welding. I’m sorry for your trouble with having to deal with this and hope this info helps. Let me know if I can be of any other assistance for you. 😊👍Don

Hi Eddie! Thank you for the nice comments! Unfortunately it wouldn’t be able to weld aluminum.☹️ You would need a Tig that can weld AC/DC because you need to weld aluminum with AC current. Hynade has a great Aluminum capable Tig and I did a review of it recently. Here is a link kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHzKlpqkept8kM0. I have a harbor Freight 125 wt. welder and have a hard time matching speed with heat. I hit the link to amazon and ordered a welder. After watching your video again I noticed that I stupidly ordered the 140d model. How much difference is ther in the 140D and the 165 SG that you show in the video. I don't do a lot of welding , some repairs for the atvs and the motorcycles that I own. Will the 140D do well for a beginner and light welding. thanx in advance for any help you can give me with this issue.

Hi John, yes that welder should work great for what you want to do. I haven’t tried that model out but from what I can see from the features, it is just a lower amperage model than the one I reviewed. It is very simple to setup and weld with. You just set the amperage to match the thickness of steel you are welding and that’s it. Very simple to use. 😊👍

Hi Mickey, welding thin metal with MiG is very difficult. I just do pulses with the trigger so they are basically spot welds layered one onto the next. This is the only method with MiG that I have had any luck with.

Hi Bill, sorry for the delay in responding. I was sick for a week and got behind on my comment answers. For 1/8” and thinner I usually use the old rule of one amp for every thousandth of an inch. 1/8” = 125 thousandths so I use 125 amps. Above 1/8” thickness I use the following settings. 3/16”-135-145amps, 1/4”-160-170amps Hope this helps! 👍😊

@@samyish Really well, I like it a lot. As mentioned I purchased the MTG175SG. I also purchased a decent ground cause the ones all welders come with are garbage. I had 220V hooked up in my garage so that's the only way I use my welder. It's also is a great stick welder, It comes with a decent electrode holder, but I previously had a better one so put it on this welder also. I also purchased Forney 42300 wire for future use, reviews are positive but have to finish the roll of flux core the welder came with. Yea it's a good welder, more than enough welder for any of my endeavors. I previously bought a Hitbox, threw it in the garbage can, couldn't bring myself to even give it away it was such a POS. This is the ground I got, it's a dandy improvement. I threw that piece of metal it comes with to support the cable and used a ziptie and also black tape. Your review looks like the gas capable version (can tell from the torch + gun; also per your link). Did you check the back of the case? How big a spool can you fit?
@PranaTech
@PranaTech 2 жыл бұрын
From what I could tell, it only accepts the small rolls. I looked it all over and even took the case off to see if I could hook up a solenoid to the gun relay and convert it to gas and the front drive housing isn’t machined to accept a gas line so it would have been a lot of work. ☹️

@michaeldvorak5556 10 ай бұрын
This is a flux core welder. The term MIG is Metal Inert Gas. Since this welder doesn't have the ability to use gas, calling it a MIG welder is inaccurate. Some people would use the term MAG when using gas if the gas contained CO2 because it is reactive.
