Yasuhiro Takemoto is a legend-level of a director... On an analytical-level, you can literally study Hyouka for film-making techniques (Camera shots, Composition, Story-telling/Narrative, etc)... People talks about the characters all the time which is cool, but man, the directing-aspect of this show is... very... underappreciated. I really salute all people worked on this show... Also Honobu Yonezawa, the author behind this wonderful novel... This cant get any better. Imagine if other studio did this, I argue this wouldve been not as good as it is now...

What d o you mean deserves so much more than it got? My favourite anime of all time is Hyouka, but I don't share this sentiment. Sure, I wish it was more popular, but it still is widely recognized by many sources as being among the elites of anime. On myanimelist, it is ranked as the 78th best anime of all time. Theanimeman has a video which takes data from all over the world, which ranked hyouka as the 83rd best anime of all time. Hyouka was part of crunchyrolls top 100 anime of the 2010's list. Sure, I wish it was more popular, but to suggest that it deserves "so much more", really undercuts how popular it is.

@@Manima108 I’ve seen Joey’s video, thanks. And I know that it does decently on MAL and that people who have seen it enjoy it, but hardly anyone is still talking about it! The community moved on, and there’s so many people who don’t even know it exists as a result! And don’t get me wrong, it’s easily my favorite show I’ve ever seen, with its beautiful art direction and perfect character foils and all of the charm in its humor. I can want more for a series without it being “undermining” of what it’s already achieved.
@MissAnthrope4 жыл бұрын
@Fahim Ali I prefer the Japanese too but you’re commenting on video from a dubbing company, and there’s value in dubs in serving as a gateway for new western fans or even those with reading difficulties (Like dyslexia). And while it can be hard to appreciate when you’re used to hear the sub VAs, the dub for Hyouka isn’t bad at all! I’ve definitely heard worse, and this dub managed to keep a lot of the tone and humor. Especially translating the Kudryavaka case would’ve been difficult, so give them some credit!

I'll never forget this series for a very peculiar reason. During one of the episodes, while talking about some random old woman as a focus of a mystery, they show a heartwarming timeline montage from when she was a child up until the present day. It baffled me how much detail and effort went into this one inconsequential character you never get to see again. I learned to appreciate how much effort they placed into each episode. It pains me to say it (so many good series), but it's my favorite SoL as well.

As a huge mystery fan, I really love the novelty of this series' twist of applying a deduction narrative to what would otherwise be everyday occurrences and problems, and not needing to throw in shocking murders every episode to deliver a satisfying puzzle.
@YosepRA3 жыл бұрын
True... As a fellow mystery fiction fan, Hyouka has a perfect mix between its deduction and daily life. I mean, every other "mystery-tagged" anime series are mostly cheap on the mystery, to the point where it becomes a mere gimmick. If not that, then they will mix mystery with horror or gore. Hyouka is truly a rare breed. The word "endangered" can't even describe its rarity.

Just so you know: Nope, there is no hope for a 2nd season yet Nope, the light Novel hasn't ended either, Hyouka is one of Honobu Yonezawa's side works, he only works on it when "he feels like doing it" that's why he has published only 2 volumes since 2012 (when the anime aired). Nope, Oreki and Chitanda still aren't a couple. At this point I feel they will never confess each in story other but the story heavily implies that Oreki has a crush on her and she feels the same about him, but they are still just very close friends and they enjoy each other. The most this couple will recieve is an ending where it implies they are a couple, but I don't think Honobu will develop a sceneraio for them to become a official couple
