I’ve owned one for quite a while now and learned two main things that make it exceptional: It’s very versatile and has a lot of great sounds without overpowering your core sound. It also works very well with every amp and guitar I own, and that’s unique to me. Totally useful pedal.

Easy answer - G. O. A. T. Seriously the best drive I’ve ever owned. It is the center of my board and for good reason - I can play any style I need (aside from metal, which I don’t do anyway). It is astounding by itself or stacked. Just my humble opinion

Great playing on the intro. Very clean and tasty lines. Nice Tones. I finally have an amp that I really like the Tone(s) of…Dr Z Z28. On its own, it has pretty perfect clean and breakup? You can dial in tight Tweed/Brownface/Blackface tones, and points in between with ease. As much as this type of pedal helps dial in a great sound, I use Fuzz for higher gain color…I think I just need a boost? I have a JHS Morning Glory, but may just pickup a clean boost? Playing out with unknown back line is a different story? Truly is a Golden Age of Pedals right now!
@tpzid28 күн бұрын
I have this pedal, and use it in conjunction (separately and in sets) with my Friedman Dirty Shirley OD pedal. Many great tones using these two pedals.
@francesco01853 ай бұрын
Talking about dual overdrives, I bought the Protein V3, the Tone King Duellist, the Wampler Pantheon Deluxe and a Crazy Tube Hi Power. I like the Protein a lot, but according to my opinion nothing is better than the Duellist, if you like gain. If you like all the nuances you can get on a clean sound, the Protein is better. The right side has a reasonable amount of gain, the left is the opposite.

Top Review ! Does it have enough mids to cut through a Band mix? Thanks!
@BenNeal2 ай бұрын
It’s a good question! Neither sides of the pedal are super mid heavy. I’ve never had any problems with not cutting through. I guess if you’ve got a strat into a deluxe then it might not have enough mids? Hit it with a tube screamer!

I didn't care much for the blue side as my amp already has that. I bought it for the Nobel thing and it was better than Nobel reissue for sure as the original Nobel and the reissue had too much low end. I got a Nordland ODR-C which is built by the original Nobel creator. It is the best Nobels out there, way more tweakability to get it dialed in to any amp big or small.
@RiffLair2 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave. I am currently looking to get either the Nordland ODR-C or the Protein. Would really help if you could share your thoughts a bit more on the 2. Looking for a warm versatile OD mainly for guitar recording sessions. Cheers! 🤗

I really wanted to like this pedal, but I find the bluesbreaker side thins out my tone and it’s a bit too bright. The ODR side is a bit too muffled and compressed. I compared it to my KOT/Morning Glory and ODR-1 and I much prefer those pedals to the Protein. It’s also fairly noisy with both sides stacked.
@jerryhorton57082 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I haven’t noticed the noise you mention here. Have you contacted Browne about that? As to the tone, to each his own, brother. Never played a KoT although I hear they are marvelous. The Protein is definitely my thing, but I do love the Morning Glory as well.
@BenNeal2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you’re saying! The bluesbreaker side worked for me straight away. The ODR-1 took a bit of tweaking but I love it now. I haven’t noticed excessive noise when stacked…

This pedal has gained longevity for sure in my studio, it does everything I need it to do. I find myself running my Bjfe Honey Bee in front of it and a compressor then slight delay last in the chain (Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay for a little airy openness). This combination into my 65 Black face Deluxe Reverb Celestion creamback sounds amazing, single coils as well as dual coils. It's transformed my Fender amp into a more versatile tool, need to hook my Super Reverb to it next. I find this pedal works best with lower output pickups.

I've had mine for a few months now, but I really think it's a little over-hyped. It's good, but I really don't like how it much it compresses. It still feels very much like a pedal. I think the Greer Lightspeed plus a Nobbels does a much, much better job.
