Always one of my top 5 shooters -- I can't quite put my finger on what makes it so fun. This game is so much more than the sum of its parts. Saturn Mode is amazing, and I love the feeling of flying along with the little helper ships/mechs. This game is just too cool, nothing like it.

I don’t think Saturn mini is possible unless Sega goes the FPGA route which is still economically unfeasible
@geniedumal29744 жыл бұрын
@@Twitty00700 It's quite possible. I play Saturn games on my Galaxy S10e and they run even better than they do on original hardware. The problem right now is the price; a Galaxy S10e is $550 unlocked. I'm not sure how much that is when you strip it down to the bare essentials needed for a mini console, but it's probably still too much. Of course, I haven't tested Yaba Sanshiro on older Galaxy phones, so maybe it can run just as well on weaker hardware. All I know is that it runs Castlevania SOTN as smoothly as the original PlayStation version of the game, and fixes the graphics using OpenGL filters. Blazing Rangers and Panzer Dragoon Saga also run smoother and look better on the Galaxy S10e - they almost look like early Dreamcast games! I hope that some day we'll get a Saturn Mini, and when we do it will run like Yaba Sanshiro does on my phone and enhance the gameplay experience, unlike the PlayStation Classic/Mini/whatever did when it gimped the PAL versions of PlayStation classics. Since Sega doesn't have any modern console to support, this is an opportunity for them to pay the Saturn the kind of respect it deserves and introduce new generations of gamers to their post-Genesis catalog of games.

1996 was a very expensive gaming year for me. So many awesome Saturn and Playstation games were released that year. On top of that, the N64 was debuted and though there weren’t very many games for it that year, they sure were expensive. Between Japanese imports and US releases, it’s wonder I could afford college, clothes, rent, gas, insurance food, door fees, alcohol and weed. In December of that year, I was interested in purchasing Batsugun, but the store owner wanted $85 for it. I tried everything to get him to lower the price. I even tried the old “I’ve spent thousands of dollars here, man. Cmon”. He finally cracked and said, “Ok, I’ll sell you 3 games for $150. No tax!” He caught me off guard. I was trying to only spend $60 and now this fucker presented a deal I couldn’t pass up. After about 10 seconds of thinking about the deal(and how long I was gonna be eating top ramen), I said deal. After looking at what he had and thinking about what I already owned I decided to go with Batsugun, Baku Baku and Shadow of the Empire. He then yelled, “Hell no! No N64 games”(He was selling it for $79.99 at the time). I said fine, I’ll take Hyper Duel instead. After he quickly did some math in his head, he looked at me and said, “Fine, and don’t ever say I don’t hook you up.” After a bit of buyer’s remorse, I began to appreciate what I got for the money. Batsugun was great, Baku Baku was an awesome game to put on when chicks were over and after some time with Hyper Duel, I was glad I picked it. It’s a solid game and I got it for a pretty good deal. It also got a good amount of play from my roommate and our friends. Miss those simple days. Good times

Nice! That year of 1996-1997 is probably still my favorite year or year-and-a-half for new games. jfc man, you walked home from the game store with new copies of Hyper Duel, Batsugun, and Baku Baku in a bag ... can that possibly be beat?

You'll go for a repro even if you don't want to. During the last 3 years many westerners started spreading perfect repros (quality in line with those of NG AEH/AES games) in shops in Japan. How they do that? Since japanese retro shop clerks do not trust westerners that come in with expensive games, westerners fakers are "paying" japanese locals to go into a shop and unload some high value games. This has poisoned the NG market (I'm a long time AEH/AES collector) and is starting to spread to Sat and PCE markets. The fakers leave a % of the profits to the locals who turn in the games and trust me, I've seen many repros back to back with the real copies and you can't possibly tell the difference. They're THAT good. Of course you won't find repros for games that don't have much value, since repros cost a lot to make. However, games like Taromaru, Hyper Duel are getting targeted a lot, since people pay high prices and this makes it worth to repro and sell them. You might be asking , why is this random guy writing all this in a random YT comment section? Because I'm trying to spread the truth wherever I can. You will see that soon someone will be replying to me saying its all bullshit. Those are the fakers. I have an almost complete collection of Sat PCE and NG. So in theory I couldn't care less since I'm not in the "game" anymore. But I hate these fakers, they sometimes sacrifice good games to make repros (NG) or simply poison the market with non original copies (PCE SS). This means that some people may have paid upwards of 1000$ for a non original Taromaru and that makes me mad. People's money is not something that you can play with. I support honest repro makers who mark their repros (for example: subtle differences that don't alter the general aestethic but still give out that it is a repro and not the real thing), if money is an issue please buy those and support the honest repro makers/sellers (except NG, since every repro you buy is a sacrificed game). But please spread the word about this black market which is poisoning the retrogaming marketplace.

I remember seeing a copy of this game at my local import game specialty store nearly 20-something years ago...I never gave this one, radiant silvergun or blast wind a second look then. If only I knew then what I know now. I did manage to track down a copy of RS, but was too late for the other 2. Eventuallt, I broke down and bought repros of the other 2. Both are fun as hell and play pretty well. But I'm kicking myself in the ars for not picking these up and $40 a piece when I had the chance.

Great video! This had been on my wish list for over a decade when I finally took the plunge and bought a copy in Akihabara a couple years ago. I was able to try this game out a few years ago and while I'll never be able to afford a real copy, it is a blast. While the sprites look a bit reminiscent of the previous gen, there is so much going on at once that there is no way a 4th gen machine could handle it. You're right about the music, too. One thing I want to remark on is this game's ability to get its story across pretty much just using in-game action and sprite animation instead of text or cut scenes. It kind of reminds me of Sonic 3&K in that way.
