As follow-up to my earlier comment, I restrung my ezone 100 with ReString Zero @ 48 lbs and am loving it. In my prior comment I said I had been using Confidential @ 55 lbs but that was incorrect, it was strung at 50, not 55 lbs. Regardless, the ReString Zero is making a huge difference for all areas of my game, I would highly recommend it to others.

I've found that with these "slippery" almost shiny strings, I just can't seem to hit a good slice backhand. The ball just skims off instead of catching the strings. Had this issue with Poly Tour Rev my first session playing with it. After that oily coating comes off though (about an hour in), it slices just fine.

I didn't have a problem with slices thankfully, rather, its the flat shots that feels less connected for me.

I’m an intermediate player and bought an ezone 100 last year largely on your recommendation, although I demoed it too and really liked it. The demo was strung with hyper G but I chose confidential for my new racquet (both were strung at 55lbs). The confidential is ok but has never felt as good to me as the hyper G. It’s been a year now and I want to try something different. I was going to look into grapplesnake but am wondering now if I should try the restring zero instead and/or if I should try a different tension. I’m a newbie at this, the only other string I’ve used was blast on a different racquet, but also at 55lbs.
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
55lbs is too tight in that racquet for most players. I personally had mine at 52lbs and probably could have dropped to 48lbs. I think Zero would both look and play great in that racquet. The ease of snapback with this string also makes it an amazing choice for more intermediate players. Hyper-G and Confidential both have significantly less snapback so you get less playability on lower swingspeed. If you chose Grapplesnake, I would recommend Alpha for your level. Nothing wrong with throwing in some Head Velocity into the crosses if you would like some more off-centre playability, better feel and more general forgiveness.
@ericzucker2293 Жыл бұрын
@@TennCom Thanks so much for your input, really appreciate it. Is the Grapplesnake Alpha infused? If so, would it be a better choice for me since I don’t change strings that frequently? What tension would you recommend?

Bought a couple packs to try, although in the past I didn't like the feel or spin with coated/slippery feeling strings (Grapplesnake Tour M8, Poly Tour Rev), but preferred shaped, sharp polys with bite (Tier One Black Knight, Firewire, VSquare, Grapplesnake Alpha).
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
these do have a nice edge (much more than M8) so I think you'll have at least moderate success
@ferberr Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you mentioned Tour M8 here. I've been using Tour M8 1.3 for almost 4 months now and you're totally right in that it has such a long playability and takes a long time to notch if at all. Would you consider Restring Zero stiffer than M8? I've used Restring Zero once in the past but I've honestly forgotten my experience with it, and I'm searching for something stiffer and more controlled than M8 if possible. Loving the video format btw; short, sweet and hits all the points.
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don’t think that Zero offers a more controlled experience than M8. The edges make the launch angle less predictable than the smoother, rounder M8. It might feel a bit softer because it’s more muted, but I didn’t hit them back to back so I couldn’t say for sure.

Confidential feels more connected and consistent. I think the tension maintenance is better too, but it does notch faster than Zero. Zero if more forgiving and powerful. If you can maintain similar swing speed with both, I think Zero would give you more spin, however, the extra control with Confidential might encourage you to swing faster, therefore generating more spin.

I usually recommend sticking with the same tension as your normal strings to isolate the variable in determining whether or not you like the strings. However, I think M8 really comes alive are 45lbs. That might be too loose for your, so maybe like 48lbs would feel more comfortable.

Just a precision Beckett, the highest spin potential doesn't "happen" to have the lowest string friction and highest ball friction, it's actually how TWU calculates that parameter (it's the quotient of ball f / string f). So it's not backed by data, more like by TWU criteria. Also, my suspicion is that those numbers have a huge dispersion (that is, a lot of possible error), given how they can erratically vary between gauges or against common sense (sometimes "rough" versions have lower friction, which could be correct when crossing a soft main string such as nat gut or multi, but definitely shouldn't be when crossing the string with itself as they allegedly do in their tests). Last but not least, I'm of the opinion that bite/snapback is a decent approach to spin potential, but definitely not a perfect one. First, I'd say that snapback has a bigger magnitude or at least range for adding spin potential (if we disregard the string pattern, of course, just comparing strings), so the formula that relates both shouldn't probably be linear. Second, there are other parameters that affect spin, and one of the most important (apart from bite and snapback) would be stiffness, both in mains and crosses, for different reasons. Third, the single or couple of strings test they use may not correlate proportionally to the behaviour of a full bed, so te ultimate test should always be actually hitting with it (or at least designing the test on a strung racket). Other than that I really appreciate the data from TWU and I think it's a great first reference, but I always take it with a pinch of salt, and am always wary of not taking it as "gospel". --disclaimer, this is my personal opinion, may not be actually backed by "science" or physics, but for me it sounds pretty reasonable.
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
Great points. I think the more you dig into these kinds of databases, the less they stand up. I don't think its anything to do with TWU or Racquetpedia or whoever, its that tennis has so many variables and controlling for those variables denies the wildly different conditions players experience on court. For me, at least, thats what makes it fun. It would be boring if string testing was so cut and dry that you could look at a number and know it was the perfect string for you.

HyperG is $12.99 on TW and ReString is $14. ALU Power is $19.95. Given that ReString is only distributing out of the US right now, I don't think its fair to compare other pricing in other countries, where you may be able to get Solinco for cheaper.

the idea that the color of the string matters in the same way across strings and brands is pseudoscience
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I would love to hear to your reasoning behind this. My reasoning, and the reasoning of the manufacturers themselves, is they they dye used to change the colour of the string impacts the playability. OEMs generally aren’t developing proprietary dyes and the chemicals used in the dyes produce different feels. Dyes essential acts as additives and they affect playability, just as the addition of any other chemical additives would.
