I guess I'm a "real" game developer now ;) Plus some new video clips from recent Hyperbolica progress. Expect more frequent videos very soon and actually releasing Hyperbolica by the end of the year if all goes to plan.

Start a patreon! I know of a lot of KZbinrs who don’t even do the reward system; they just use it as a hub for people who want to support you. If you think you should have rewards, make them something simple that you wouldn’t need to put any extra work into. Maybe something from Hyperbolica or from the process of making the video, or even just a text post or poll!

Maybe release videos to patreon supporters a couple days before making them available on youtube, that way there's no extra work and the patreon people still get something a little special! And if you feel like it, maybe just post extra screenshots or test clips of your work on Hyperbolica. It doesn't need to be anything big, but I'm sure the people who want to support you would be interested in little things like that :D

Yeah, if done strategically, a patreon can be very rewarding with very little work. Access to discord roles/channels, early clips and asset previews, two day sooner videos, it's all simple but enticing for the right audience. Devin Nash has some great content about how to make a patreon like that while still drawing a significant crowd.

You don't need to do rewards tiers for patreon. In fact, I avoid donating to channels that do exclusive content for their patreons since to me, the purpose is so that the creator can keep making cool stuff that I can show to my friends and that everyone can enjoy, so I'd rather them not waste time making content that only a small subset of the community can see for literally no reason. Idk if this is how everyone feels about it, but I am happy with, and prefer, to do a monthly donation that has no rewards

I have a similar stand point - though some rewards can be nice, not like full videos, just some bits and pieces from the making of videos, maybe a small demo once in a while. I think that those should be later posted to everyone else, just with a small (1-2 week) delay.

As far as Patreon goes, you could have just a couple of simple tiers. One (like $2) where you get to see text/image devlogs, and another ($5-10) where you get to play pre-release demos of the game as they come out. It's a fairly popular option for game devs because it can provide a steadier monthly income than just regular donations
