@9:38 train full of Mack rides people. The ride experience is always the most important, and they have got that right. It is a giant leap for the UK coaster portfolio and one that is most welcome. However....They cheaped out on the station and the maintenance building. The queue is bizarre, and why come into the building at a weird position? As a guess John Burton had a bigger and better idea on how to build this experience and Merlin, as usual, have delivered the value engineered version of his vision, so stuff got cut from the project and this is what has been delivered. Coasters are expensive investments, but most UK "theme" parks fail on theming. It is in the name. You are either a theme park or an expensive funfair. The UK industry needs to get beyond the funfair approach in future designs. You attract international visitors if you get the experience right, which is good for business and the UK as a whole. There is a reason why European parks such as Europa Park, Eftling and Phantasia land have good visitor numbers. It's a mix of great rides, with great theming. You can even pick some parks in the backend of nowhere in Europe, like Toverland in Holland or Nigloland in France and they have amazing theming. If you are going to build a ride of that scale, make sure it can get through 1500 guests per hour. It is a 46 second ride. Design it with dual loading so you can have a train running every 46 seconds. On quiet days run one side only. (Thorpe Park does not have many quiet days). Operations look like they are doing a sterling job regardless, so well done to the Thorpe Park team. As for the shutdown, when the train first ran a few weeks ago, it sounded like the chain dog or anti-roll back dogs were catching on the crest of the lift hill, so as a speculative guess, they might be adding "skateboards". A section is cutout on the track rail spreaders, which is filled in with a piece of steel in the shape of a skateboard deck, to allow bits of the train to miss the track. They take a few days to fit, so if you see a cherry picker and some guys welding up there, you know what they are doing. It is not an unusual occurrence on a new coaster.

To be honest, I just hope this starts normalising bigger and better rides in general... but in the future, to be focused on building good rides and GOOD THEMEING. Together is the total package, you cannot just rely on one element to create a good experience. Mack did awesome with this with what Merlin wanted. I think the coaster is utterly phenomenal, somehow I got 3 rides yesterday which i'm very grateful for considering it's now down! The drop is fine on the front but incredible at the back, the immelman is quite whippy and you get a nice pop of ejector as you're coming down the '2nd drop'. That outerbank into the barrel roll... WOW that was sensational. The airtime on the back was so sustained and then you were whipped into that roll like the one on Iron Gwazi. Then that stall is pretty cool, especially when you're looking down at the queue below you. the stengel dive at the end was also the sleeper hit tbh and that final hill gives a nice pop of airtime. Overall, it's my new no1 because it just blew me away. I think the station, for as long as the effects are working, is the best in the UK. Unfortunately, despite my first two rides being really smooth, the third ride I had had quite a rattle on the train but it didn't feel like it was coming from the track but it felt like a train thing. Overall, the area is quite nicely landscaped and I really like the planting. It's a shame that the ride is down today and i think it's either the lift motor or the air gates. The air gates were causing massive issues yesterday and I think maybe th management were like 'let's close it today to sort it out and open it tomorrow'

I know what you mean about other channels though I find Theme Park Worldwide are generally quite honest with their reviews despite their channel size. Mack restraints are the opposite of Intamin. No stiffness and very open yet secure. Merlin for me absolutely nail the merch. Love all the different designs and embroidered quality. Even places like Europa Park don’t do as good of a job on Merch as Merlin in my opinion. I was a bit disappointed when I went to Energylandia and they had hardly any merch with the logos or themes. I really wanted to buy a nice Zadra or Hyperion T-shirt / cap. Got to ask does that long inversion feel longer than Zadra? Because I loved that part on Zadra where it feels like you’re dive bombing upside down. I’d call that outer banked turn element the “Fearless Fling”

It is easily the best coaster in the UK, anybody saying otherwise either likes being wrong or is just trying too hard to be edgy and different. There are very few world class coasters in the UK, Hyperia is absolutely world class. The only other coasters that are, or were, world class, were designed decades ago. As much as I love Nemesis, after 30 years, the time was always going to come eventually where something with modern, extreme, elements was going to come along and blow us away. Good to see an objective review. I rode this on opening day including a night ride. Incredible coaster but Nemesis is still #1 for me. Personally I prefer a fully immersive experience with themeing, FLY, Taron for example. In the UK, Nemesis and Wickerman. I appreciate a hyper coaster is challenging to theme but Blue Fire mega coaster has a great indoor section, near miss rock work elements etc. Hyperia’s elements are incredible but there is zero themeing, no train lighting package and the back story is weak IMO. I can completely understand why this is a number one coaster to most people.

Ride experience is No.1 for me but theming, it's easily one of the worst looking rides in park around the ride. Plaza area is ok and station was slightly better than I was expecting but still most folks just want to know if it rides well and it does, very well (when it's working)
@chrisogrady286 ай бұрын
The ride itself doesn't have much that can go wrong, other than sensor resets like all rides, it's just a couple of redundant motors powering the chain, and a few brakes. It's hilarious that the thing that took the ride down was probably the cheap ass air gates Merlin cheaped out on. Even they should have a manual opens close ability, which would slow down operations but at least keep operations going.

@@jaystocky What are they doing for the other 4 days is the question? For the gates it is a sensor adjust or a pressure regulator/pressure switch adjust. Takes a couple of hours. It is essentially a job that the Thorpe Park Technical Services team can handle between operating hours. A 4-day shutdown on a new coaster is more than a simple adjust job. Unless Mack have been really silly and manufactured a sealed gate control module, which is also possible. They would still run the ride for gate sensitivity and have an attendant make sure nobody touches the air gates while the vehicles are moving in the station, they could even group people by the door and send them to the air gates when the train has stopped to unload. It is a slower operation but one of a number of solutions to keep the ride running. Whatever the issue is, it is not air gates.

Woke up at 2:00am yesterday (25th). Left home at 4:00am. Arrived at 6:00am. Queued for 4 hours. Announcement made 15 mins before it was due to open that it wasn't opening. Somebody pinched £70 cash out of my pocket. Tried to go straight home, hit bank holiday traffic, arrived home 5 hours after leaving the park. I spent £80.00 in fuel and lost £70.00 in cash to essentially stand in a queue. All in all, a great day. 10/10 would do it again. On a serious note though, I am excited to get on this (eventually).

Why dont we all just have a beer and celebrate something phenomenal coming to a UK park! This will lead to other UK parks upping their game, the sign board outside TP from BPB yesterday is proof of that! Great banter too 😂 I was lucky enough to have a ride on Friday after work and was totally buzzing, TP staff handled everything so well. I think the drop and the stall are world class, the outer bank literally ejected me out of my seat (only moment on the ride that I held on) and the twisted hill after the splashdown also took me by surprise. IMHO this is the best coaster in the UK by quite some distance. It's there with the best in Europe and apart from a few standout coasters in US, it smashes most of their coasters too! Apart from the few elite well known rides around the world this really does compete. Not fussed one bit about the lack of themeing, the vibe in the area was just electric. Gutted i didn’t see you there on Friday, would have loved to shake your hand and buy you a beer. 🎉

Great ride and hopefully the start of something special to happen moving forward with Merlin. I wasn't expecting it to be as forceful as it was, and the outer bank turn is quite something. I came off needing a few minutes to compose myself afterwards. But man... what's with the boxy containers being used again as 'theming'? We've just been treated to Project Sparkles giving the park some very much needed TLC, and heck even Nemesis and Forbidden Valley has been completely changed. Why couldn't Hyperia have been given the same treatment?

Haven't ridden it, but i gotta say a weird thing. Thorpe should take inspiration from Energylandia for their large scale hyper coasters. Hypers aren't the types of ride you would expect to be heavily themed around the ride, so you need to theme the AREA. Look at Smoczy grod at EL a beautiful area where than nobody cares that Zadra isn't themed alone at all. Same for Hyperion, the building is really cool looking and fits it's theme very well. Hyperion also haves way better station and queue. Again nobody will care about that the ride itself isn't themed, because it's a hyper

I think the whole theme of it actually would fit the swarm much better. It is after all a wing coaster and the flying sensation is fantastic on it. I also think that exodus was a much cooler name and they should have kept it. To me the whole theme feels a bit plastered on as if it was an after thought. With most of the other coasters, the layout was made to fit the theme. Whereas with hyperia, it feels like they told Mack Rides that they wanted to build the tallest coaster and once they came back with the brief they just came up with any old shit for the theming. Then as time progressed, they realised that they needed to theme it and ended up rushing and consequently just throwing money at it so that they actually had anything. That’s not to say I don’t like the theming but for the amount of time and effort spent on the layout of the ride, they could have at least put a bit more effort into the theming
