Regarding your stiff gear shift, if it's still a problem after you're back on regular oil, consider these things: 1. Do you have any clutch drag? With the engine warm but switched off in first gear, can you push it along easily with the clutch disengaged? If not, maybe the clutch needs further bleeding. 2. You fitted an Oberon slave I think? That gives a lighter pull at the expense of some lift. So if it's dragging despite a good bleed, consider your clutch pack. If your new clutch stack height is a bit higher than optimum, then the clutch may not be fully disengaging. You could always swap back to the standard slave, just to see if that makes a difference. (By the way, my 1100 Monster has rearsets and an Oberon slave and the gear change is super slick - much better than standard.) 3. As the engine's been rebuilt, the gear change selector arm has been removed and replaced. It can be adjusted a few millimeters fore and aft but needs to be precisely centred to ensure smooth shifting. It lives under the alternator cover and might be worth investigating if all else fails. Enjoy!

Been soooo looking forward to seeing the first proper ride out on the Hyper, what an achievement! With regards to the stiff gear change, I had the exact same problem on my 2007 Hyper and the reason for it was the ‘selector claw’ was not aligned properly. Page 455 on the PDF manual shows how to align this 👌🏼 If this is the problem, when tightening the gear selector mechanism back up make sure to use the correct loctite and torque both bolts to their exact spec!

@@LambChopRides Great! I ran Motul 300v oil and had effortless yet positive gearshifts. I could upshift/downshift with no clutch just by rolling off and back on the throttle. Also, I loved the strong engine braking so I didn't switch to slipper clutch.

She a beaut. I love the classic Ducati font on the tank. It actually looks modern to me. You had better get some PPF on that carbon fibre before it gets scratched just like you did with the H2.
@project6182 ай бұрын
Looks really good for a 09' that carbon makes it pop. A nice colour on it but so you can still see the weave would be nice but the stealth look also looks really nice. Question still remains whether a Hyper could be a one bike garage still think a super sport is top of my list although these often tempt the wallet. Keep it rolling Chopsy.

I agree with the fellow about a hard break in especially since this is not a new motor its basically just a rebuild. Manufactures usually want you to be easy with the bike for the first 600 miles to let all the metal mesh with each other. In this case you’re only breaking in the piston rings. The best way to seat your rings is to do multiple heat cycles with aggressive on throttle and trying not to keep the engine running at a constant speed for too long. So basically ride it like you stoled it. Let it cool down. Repeat ride it like you stoled let it cool down a few more times. After about three to four times your rings will be properly seated. Now you can ride it race it or just put it around.

Great to see the Hyper finally running smoothly. I've had my Ducati Monster oil analysed by Millers and they're really quick - I got a full breakdown of the oil emailed to me exactly seven days after I put the sample in the post. I'd definitely recommend this service in your case with a rebuilt engine or also if you've just bought a second hand bike so you can check on the health of the motor. (Maybe get the R1 analysed at the same time.)

You really should give it a bit more throttle when running it in. Repeated hard pulls, then ease off. That's what gets the rings bedded in. Constant low rpm will do it no favours as things will just glaze, not bed in

Do another two oil analysis when you change from running in oil onto your normal use oil, you will see a change again and further reduction on wear elements. Glad you took the advice to change the oil at 100 miles but personally I wouldn’t put more running in oil back in, I would have jumped to the normal use fully synthetic oil.
@LambChopRides2 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm going to change now which is 300 miles and go semi synthetic
@jamest51492 ай бұрын
Perfect, I was worried you were going to go too long on the running in oil, it realy is only needed for the first 50 miles to bed the rings in. Everything else is running on a film of oil so the changes are used to flush any dirt and dust from the build out as well as build greases and sealers. Two changes in quick succession are needed when ever you change oil grade or type as the additive packages don’t always play nicely together and you can see a spike in wear materials until the second change is done. See if you can get some sponsorship from the oil analysis company and a oil supplier and do a series on this…. Its a interesting topic, under reported and even less understood. Find a willing tribologist to explain the results 👍
