The late 70's and early 80's were a great time to ride, Had a KZ1000, now a Z900. Would rather be back at Sears Point watching Wes Cooley on his Yoshimura GS1000. All these bikes were extremely cool. Thanks for the video....

This is the era that I grew up in. These motorcycles had so much more character and soul than motorcycles today. Today they all look the same. Back then you could tell them all apart. If I ever have another motorcycle, it's going to be a race replica of one of these.

I'm 50 years old and just built a new ZX10RR Race Bike and began racing again after many years I should get into vintage racing as well sense I'm vintage! Your never too old so get out there and do it again. I feel 30 years younger sense I started racing again. Gives you a reason to stay healthy and in shape. Don't sit on the couch watching football on Sunday get out and race !

Back in the early eighties I built as close as I could to the actual bike, a Wes Cooley GS 1000 replica superbike with dymag 3 spoke wheels, Yoshimura stage 2 cams, fully ported head, big valves, 33 mm Mikuni Smoothbores, frame modified to Yoshimura specifications, etc. Now in 2024 I'm doing it again, with a 1976 Kawasaki Z900!

Brings back memories....I owned a '78 GS1000 back in '78 to '82 with Yoshimura engine parts, smooth bore carbs...fun times.

Thanks so much for posting. This brings me back to Laguna Seca and Sears Point in the early 80's, watching Lawson, Spencer, et al slide and wheelie just about every turn. This video is a big taste of that.

I attended many races at Laguna and Sears, starting in the last days of the old 1000cc Superbike class. Seeing Lawson, Spencer, Cooley, Baldwin, Wise, Peitri, Wolf, Klinzman, and others riding the wheels off of those big machines was the best show around. It's just not been the same since 1982.

These were true superbikes. Powerful inline 4 cylinder engines with no abs, traction control, or power modes. Just pure power and enjoyment. Mean looking too. Love all of them. Japanese riders seem much more dedicated than do american. riders. You guys have the passion and it shows.

Very very cool. In 1985 I bought my first bike at 17 years old - 1979 KZ1000 MKII bored out to an 1105 with a series 3 cam. Have no idea what my parents where thinking. I broke a valve and sold it - now it's really hard to find this model bike. I enjoy seeing these bikes coming alive again.

This is beyond cool. I was bummed when it was over. I had a GPz550 that I raced the crap out of in the early '80s. I go to vintage races, but this is all of the early '80s 2 valve big bore bikes on the track at once..very cool. Yes, I saw the CB750F 4 valve; and I likely missed a big GS 4 valve or two. That's why I need to go there!! Fantastic upload!!

Todd Wright , Todd, I literally just picked up an 83 GPz550 about a month ago, its the bike I LUSTED after in high school but couldnt afford. Im 51 now. My 550 is an absolute survivor, still has the stock exhaust which is in amazing shape. I raced from 1998 to 2003, mostly lightweight class bikes and supermoto, now Im a slow street guy lol. I absolutely love my GPz550, I couldnt be happier!

@iahock59 Dam man Im glad you were ok and recovered and were able to keep tearing it up! I had the experience of riding a 1982 GPZ1100 with a Kerker exhaust on it when I was 16! Working at the I-95 Sunoco in Canton MA on Neponset St back in 1984, one of the “regulars”(account guys) saw me wrenching on my 1980 YZ125G , and we got to talking. Well one Sunday he pulled in on that frickin beautiful Kawi with a smoking hot girl on the back, and after some chit chat, he let me take that 1100 for a ride. Well three gears worth of Neponset St had me terrified beyond belief, and its possible I wasnt a virgin somehow after that ride, but I never did the math lol. Anywho, that turned into me fixing his unbelievably pristene 1978 Honda CR250R ( a half dollar sized hole in the piston!) and then selling it for him for $800.00. If we only knew what life had in store for us right? I remember that experience like it was yesterday, thanks for the trek down M Lane. That mans name was Paul Bernard, worked for the yellow van company CCA( Continuing Care Associates) delivering oxygen and med supplies to people at home. Fucking crazy what we remember

Lovely but is there a version with org Japanese lang and eng subtitles? I have used my old Bandit 600(mk1) to get into bike racing. Worked pretty good until the engine blew up(the cdi that allowed for 500extra rpm or what it was compared to later models).
