In the video, Leah discusses the relationship between hypertension (high blood pressure) and PTSD in veterans, explaining how hypertension can be service-connected in military personnel. Hypertension, defined as a systolic blood pressure over 140 or a diastolic pressure over 90, can be directly linked to military service if diagnosed during active duty, or secondarily associated with other conditions, such as PTSD and mental health issues. Leah emphasizes the role of various risk factors, both modifiable (like lifestyle choices) and non-modifiable (like genetics), in the development of hypertension. She references studies showing the impact of psychological stress and PTSD on blood pressure.

1- great video. 2- I was denied hypertension secondary to PTSD. The language in my VA letter scared me for a minute. At the top the way it read I thought they were going to take away my PTSD rating.

@@prestigeveteranmedical they denied asthma, hypertension and GERD that I put in for the PACT Act. I’ve heard that a lot of people are being denied PACT Act claims. However, they increased other issues and awarded me 100% P&T. I don’t think they want anyone to have PACT Act claims.

I don’t know what I did wrong. About 9-10 months ago I had 3 CMP exams in the same day one for hearing increase, one for PTSD increase, and the last was my exam I was trying to get hypertension granted. I was 40% ptsd I believe prior to that day but my increase was granted that put me at the 70% for PTSD. I was diagnosed with stage 2 hypertension from an outside doctor and brought that information along with my blood pressure numbers and the medications the doctor has put me on. I filled hypertension as a secondary to my PTSD and they had the evidence by fact of my increased PTSD rating. Why would they deny me hypertension if it’s the result of my mental health?
@prestigeveteranmedical
@prestigeveteranmedical Жыл бұрын
It just depends on the specifics. Probably because the medical examiner did not believe that your hypertension was caused by your mental health condition. If you would like us to take a look at this with you please email me at leah@prestigeveteranmctx.com

I have hypertension, but take medication for it. You mention if you’re taking medication to control it you might not get a rating for it. Should I stop taking it to measure my actual blood pressure? I have not yet made a claim, but I do believe my hypertension is linked to my PTSD.

Hey sir thank you for watching. You will want to follow up with a legal professional on the ratings and how they apply when taking medication to control this. I would never recommend stopping your medication and that you should certainly follow up with your doctor before making any changes to their treatment plan. Thank you for watching

I was rated 70% for PTSD, I was admitted to the VA hospital in November of 2022 for an ischemic stroke, I was diagnosed with hypertension while in the hospital. How does the VA rate hypertension, I am rated 10% for hypertension, and I take five hypertensive medications, is it possible to get an increase in my rating?
@prestigeveteranmedical
@prestigeveteranmedical 2 жыл бұрын
You can always try for an increase if you believe your symptoms are worse. Here is a good article on the ratings: cck-law.com/types-of-va-disabilities/hypertension/#:~:text=If%20your%20application%20is%20approved%2C%20you%20will%20receive,Your%20rating%20depends%20on%20your%20blood%20pressure%20reading.

So basically, the VA requirements for Hypertension, so far as compensation goes, is far above the rest of the world's standard. You basically have to be dying to rate only 10%. Scam.

Can hypertension be connected secondary?
@combatdouglas1306
@combatdouglas1306 2 жыл бұрын
Of course. If not DSC, many things cause high BP. Like medications prescribed for your S/C disability. Diet like comfort foods eaten b/c of your S/C depression. Or inactivity b/c of MDD or anxiety. There are 31+ MH disorders. Get your facts together and listen up to Leah. She is the pro.

@@williamchase4139 with a name like Chase you ought be a hundo. So J.P. Mr. Bill : 1.) Go through your STR and find every malady in service noted ; same for any symptom(s) noted , dx'ed or not. 2.) Those can all be DSC. Do not fret about ratings. Ratings can always be increased. Get the S/C. 3.) If going for DSC a Leah letter helps significantly. 4.) Once you get any S/C, secondaries S/C's are certainly in need of a Leah letter. Called a "Nexus." (Legal word for connection.). Word of caution if you have read this far. There are always going to be nexus www scamsters out there that will say what you want cheaper faster easier. Those turds are on the radar at VARO and will get you denied. Maybe even put on the radar for your other claims. Leah is one of us, is very good at saying "No" and consequently has a stellar reputation with V.A. Claims. Raters are not stupid. Last, check out what other Marines and vets say about Leah on Discord Gunny's Tavern. Good Luck Mr. Bill.
