I served in combat in Viet Nam. Years ago I was disgnosed by the VA for high blood pressure and have recieved medicatio for it from the VA ever since. My service officer advised me to apply for benefits from the PACT act so I did. I recieved a letter stating that indeed I had high blood pressure and my claim was approved however they awarded me 0%. So crazy and frustrating and a waste of time.

My late husband , Vietnam combat veteran, (NOV 69- NOV 1970) agent orange sprayed on a firebase for 12 months. He had HBP WHEN HE WAS ACTIVE duty, hbp when he retired from army. Over years applied for benefits for hbp. Always denied. Finally in 2019 he was awarded 100% for Ischemic heart disease, PTSD, AMONG others. Unfortunately he passed Dec 2, 2022. With heart diseases and alzheimers listed as cause of death. I was Finally awarded DIC on june 1, 2023. My question is: am I due any compensation for now presumptive hbp, that he had ever since Vietnam and rest of his life. He was continually under care of a cardiologist until his death. Vietnam vet. I filed for both MGUS and hypertension in 2018. I was denied because those conditions were not on the presumptive list. After the PACT ACT, I refiled and was approved but back pay only went back to August 2022 when the act was passed. Why wasn't I awarded back pay to my initial filing?

So my dad was just denied on his claim for hypertension and Parkinsonism. They agreed he was in VN in 1968/69, they agreed he had hbp and Parkinsonism. They claimed other health problems caused both of these issues not his service based on the C&P examiners opinion. It’s like the C&P examiner and and the rater have no idea about the PACT act. Will meet with his VSO Monday.

Have had high blood pressure for about 25 years. Filed my claim. The VA didn't deny it but said because the meds I'm on appear to have it under control, I was awarded a 0 compensation. So, what's the difference in someone taking a sleep apena test and failing and getting a cpap machine to have to use which gets it under control and they get compensated. I don't see the difference. In both instances your problem is helped, 1 by a machine and 1 by meds but 1 is compensated and the other not. That's crazy. If I don't take my BP med, my BP would go sky high. It's discrimination as far ad I can see.

I agree with you. I take medication for my type two diabetes and recieve 20%. I should recieve 10% for taking 3 medications to control my BP. There 160 on systolic is above the medical communities 140 stage one and 150 stage two hypertension. They just don't want to pay out.

She took three reading and said I was normal since I was taking my BP meds. I know she was going to deny me as soon as I left the 10 min exam. Also she was working on someone else the few minutes I was there. The contracted Dr's, PA's and RN's could care less about you. My dad has dementia and is a resident in a VA facility. He is a Vietnam Veteran with confirmed agent orange exposure. The VA prescribes and dispenses his medication for hypertension that was diagnosed more than 20 years ago. They denied his disability claim stating that his systolic and diastolic numbers were not high enough to qualify. Of course they were not, because they give him medication to control his blood pressure. The VA has asked us to find his medical records that showed his original blood pressure numbers when he was diagnosed with hypertension at least 20 years ago. This has been impossible because it was so long ago and my parents have moved several times since then. We have no idea which doctor would have those records and several of his previous doctors have retired. The VA rep at the facility where my dad lives is the one filing claims on his behalf. He has the records that state that my dad is diagnosed and that the VA is giving him this medication, so I would assume he included that in the claim. What else can we do?

I am convinced that any VA program is a sales talk. When I worked at the VA. They could still tell you the line That it was about veterans it is definitely not only about veterans. It is about staying in business. Generally if you work for them the middle management clerical staff and supervisors decide. I recently re enrolled for my hypertension same story. I had the condition when I left the service in 1970. Now it has progressed to a heart murmur and a progressive heart block jog the second or third degree variations. This is consisten with my left ventricular enlargement is most likely due to my hypertension I received billing for my meds. I received billing for a cataract procedure which I did not apparently have So going by my drivers license I am required to drive 9:49 with glasses. The VA here doesn’t provide transportation. They don’t even have a schedule or routes for the bus system I retired as an RN. When I was working I made arrangements for procedures referrals. And further appointments at the VA no one does this. Did they ever check with the medical community, American Heart Association, Mayo Clinic, etc? I am currently appealing a 0% looking for at least 10%. I am taking three blood pressure medications and running 130s to the 150s. Before the medications, I ran in the 160s. Waiting on higher rating review.

I was a "post-Vietnam" veteran. I was exposed to a toxic chemical and was rushed to the E.R. The doctor said I suffered a "Chemical reaction" to the paint. This has affected my lungs and my blood pressure to this day. But, since I was not in Vietnam I'm S.O.L.

Good presentation- I am wondering if the Air Force has a record of all my TDY orders while stationed in Vietnam and Thailand.I have requested copies of all my TDY orders on several occasions over the past 10 years and have yet to receive them. Dates of service from 1962- 1972. I was TDY from Vietnam to Udorn, Utapoa and Ubon with Spooky. in 1969.. I keep getting told there was a fire and some of my records are supposed gone.

Even at my c&p exam, it was over 200, the week of I filled out the bp sheet sent by the va for the exam. Not one reading was under 179 and as high as 205. He took it at the exam and it was over 200. Literally told me to go the the er and asked if i needed an ambulance. I am on 2 meds from the va. What can I do ? Should I file an appeal or request a high level review. Oh and swcondary ro ptsd and sleep apnea which I have a rating of 90 percent

I claim service connection for hypertension (claimed as high blood pressure) associated with tera participation is granted with an evaluation of 0 percent This is what they wrote ,,,,,, but what brought me into hospital was a 256/124 BP with AFIB. Yes I take the highest dosages of medication to lower my BP currently,,,, but don’t think they knew this

I retired in 2004 and when I filed my VA claim back then I was awarded 0% for hypertension. Now I fall under the PACT Act for Guam and Agent Orange exposure. Wondering if I might succeed in getting something for hypertension now? 100% for my PACT Act claim for Diabetes and Prostate Cancer. However my 100% is only temporary for the cancer.

Hi. I hope you get a chance to read this. Yeah, the VA does not award for hearing loss. Nobody knows why. But they do give a 10% rating for tinnitus and the process is relatively simple. Please do some research on tinnitus and the symptoms, and if you have them, then submit a claim for Tinnitus. Only if you have the symptoms, though. Do not lie to the VA. But with so many deployments and other hearing loss issues, you likely have tinnitus as well. But if you have the symptoms, file a simple claim online. Clearly state your symptoms and when you observed them. Ideally that would be during your active service time, and is therefore easy for them to make a service connection. I've had it for decades going back to my deployments and just assumed constant ringing in my ears was just normal. Plus I knew that there was no "cure" for tinnitus, so I just never bothered reporting it. You will not likely need any outside help to make the claim as long as you are relatively computer savvy. But you can also google or youtube loads of videos about tinnitus claims and how to do them. Once you file a claim, the VA will set up an appointment with a doctor for a tinnitus C&P exam. Which is pretty straightforward if you are telling the truth about the symptoms and when you first noticed them. There is no test for tinnitus, the doc just determines if you are telling the truth about your symptoms. And if you are telling the truth, you will more than likely be rated at 10% within a couple of months. 10% isn't a lot of money, but heck an extra $160 or so a month means you can take the wife out once or twice a month for movies and a dinner. The other good thing is that they are developing better hearing aids that can help counter tinnitus, so you would likely be able to get those from the VA if they diagnose you with service related tinnitus. Now the other thing about a tinnitus claim, it is a primary condition that would allow you to apply for secondary claims for other maladies you suffer because of your tinnitus. If you have migraines, stress, sleep, or other issues because of your tinnitus, you can apply for additional benefits. And again, you can google or youtube hundreds of videos about how to do a claim for secondary conditions from tinnitus. But I would recommend going to a free VSO to discuss those options. But for tinnitus, you can make that claim yourself and it is relatively easy.
