That's a great question! Hypertension that persists for a long time can eventually cause kidney damage. This can cause things like decreased urine concentration, where the specific gravity may be affected, hematuria, where damage to the glomeruli (filtering structures in the kidneys) is done, and proteinuria due to possible damage to the glomeruli.
