Oh my goodness thank you so much for this! I just got accepted into nursing school and I'm trying to learn all I can. I work in a retail pharmacy as a tech and we received a prescription for digoxin the other day and I had NO clue what it was! This is so helpful!

Thanks for the video-but are you sure Dig lowers BP? I’ve heard it lowers HR but it generally has a neutral effect on BP (making it unique among heart medications)

Thank you so much for your videos! I'm a nursing student in an accelerated nursing program and pharmacology is one of the hardest classes but taking it accelerated has even been making it tougher. My classmates and I watch your videos, and it's defenitly helped simplify and remember medications because our pharmacology text book has just been too confusing. Keep doing what your doing its defenitly helped sooo much!❤❤

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Digoxin only effects HR and not BP? Thank you.
@NurseInTheMaking6 ай бұрын
That is correct - digoxin is not used as a primary medication for hypertension. However, due to the mechanism of action, which includes improved cardiac output & circulation, decreased edema, decreased heart rate, and decreased constriction of the veins and arterioles, blood pressure is often lower after receiving digoxin than it was prior to administration of digoxin. I hope this helps clear this information up!

Thankk you for this, was just a bit confused with Digoxin. If it really lowers bp? Or not?
@NurseInTheMaking4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! Digoxin is not administered primarily to lower blood pressure. However, due to the mechanism of action of the medication (it improves cardiac output & circulation, decreases edema, decreases heart rate, and decreases constriction of veins and arterioles), blood pressure is often lower than prior to the administration of digoxin. I hope this helps to explain the action of this medication 🙂

Ya. I didn't learn so either. Kinda of surprise to hear she mentions that
@NurseInTheMaking Жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning this! I am sorry for any confusion with understanding digoxin. This medication will not be given as a primary medication for hypertensive patients. But, due to the mechanism of action of this medication, which includes improved cardiac output and circulation, decreased edema, decreased heart rate, and decreased constriction of veins and arterioles, blood pressure is often lower than prior to the administration of digoxin. I hope this helps to better understand this effect. Best of luck to you! 🙌

Is there any evidence that digoxin can cause hearing loss or worsen tinnitus, my tinnitus got louder at the same time that i started on this drug. I stopped this drug and tinnitus hasnt improved. (However i also caught covid about the same time which apparently can worsen tinnitus )
@NurseInTheMaking7 ай бұрын
I would definitely suggest reaching out to your HCP to discuss any possible adverse effects or concerns you have regarding your health. Different medications can have different effects on each individual. Best of luck to you!
