what does reviving do? is it just to survive floating up from all the way down? cant you survive it by popping out of the water momentarily when you're closer to the surface and only then starting to swim towards the grotto?

It's more to fix the camera from being locked all the way back near the castle, so that you can see where to swim to. You could probably do it the way you suggested, but it'd be harder I think because the camera would still be locked so far back.
