There's actually a simple and logical explanation for the Depths beneath Deya Village to resemble areas under lakes and such. Naturally speaking, the area was a full lake. But at some point during the development of the Kingdom, people built a dam around what is now Deya Lake, letting them drain the area blocked off, maybe fill it with dirt obtained flattening another area, and build Deya Village in what was once a lakebed. The Depths reflects the lakebed that was once there. With the dam destroyed, the water has returned to the old lakebed, expanding the lake, but either from the lakebed being filled in with dirt or from time reducing the amount of water in the remaining portion of Deya Lake, the lake isn't as full as before, but over time it may return to what it once was, what the Depths reflects, unless people build a new dam and drain the area again to rebuild the village.
@BladeMasterIcarus Жыл бұрын
might be a whole lot easier for everyone to just tear down the remains of Deya village and move the village to be near the lake but not too far away from it. they could even use the ruins as building materials for roads and walls as such.
@Zile.e Жыл бұрын
I way about to mention this exact idea! I don’t know the exact topography of the area but it makes a lot of sense. People may have originally flocked to the lake by the large tree - then as hyrule developed they decided to build a dam, allowing a town to be build where the lake was. Hyrule’s architects/city planners probably didn’t think about a risk like the Calamity and so as the kingdom expanded maybe this town was planned out and built (not as much of a natural development but an instance of medieval urban planning?)
@mallk238 Жыл бұрын
I think another logical explanation is that the depths DO change as the surface does. If you go to the forgotten temple amd find the giant map of hyrule with the geoglyph locations, you’ll notice that the geography of the land looks different to how it does today. Various bodies of water flow differently to how they do now. Landmarks like the dueling peaks aren’t actually dueling yet bc it was still one mountain at the time of the maps’ creation. It’s entirely possible that the depths do actually match the surface 1:1 and will change in order to keep that true

One that no one likes to mention is Mabe Village. This village was the closest one to Hyrule Castle Town, and was another devastating one. From the looks of it, this was, obviously, a very tiny village. The people who lived here also could of tended for the ranch since they were so close to it. The worst thing is that this was a suuuper unprotected town. It was in center of the kingdom, with no walls or anything, right their in the lenient Hyrule Field. The citizens would of probably had to rely on the protection of the Hyrule Field’s Garrison, since it doesn’t look like the King of Hyrule cared to put any knights our soldiers to protect the village, so probably the stronger people of the village did the actual central protecting of the village. The citizens would have seen the giant cloud of malice in the sky, and evacuate. But the thing is, it’s a very homey village. Unlike other places, they relied on castle town since the ranch cant pay for everything. In other words, literally all their life saving, stuff, etc was there. Even after the evacuation of the town, all there stuff would have been destroyed, so since they unfortunately had to evacuate quickly, they barely had any supplies. They most likely tried to go to hateno, or the Hyrule Garrison and see that they STILL couldn’t be defended by the guardians from Castle Town. Those who survived would have no where to go, with fort hateno’s battle raging on, and after a few hours, they would see there would be very risky, dangerous, and limited options. Those who went to Hyrule Garrison would be met with the fact that it didn’t stop the guardians. Those who tried to go through the Ash Swamp to Hateno would be caught in the battle with Zelda and link. Those who went even further to places like the Outpost, or the Great Plateau would be caught with guardians sooner or later. The only safe places would be Hateno, which is out of the question, the Faron Woods, Lurlin Village, or the Gerudo Desert, which would be protected by the Gerudo Highlands just barely. And they would still have to cross through the hot, unforgiving desert to get to the Kara Kara Bazaar, cross Faron and a few mountains to get to Lurelin Village. Even at the Kara Kara Bazaar, or for the girls, Gerudo Town, there’s still the threat of the sandstorms cause by Vah Naboris. And lastly, those who stayed in the Faron Woods would die out there, since they probably wouldn’t have known how to live in the wild, or they died by monsters. This is why the story of Mabe Village is very much one of the worst, because being so close to ground zero of the calamity, they would have to quickly evacuate while literally leaving everything behind.
@randomguy-cy9mz Жыл бұрын
Some else I found interesting that adds to the tragedy of Mabe Village is that in Creating a Champion we see a guide on how soldiers and some survivors fled from Castle Town or Central Hyrule to Akkala Citadel This would mean that they would have to go through Goponga Village and take the soldiers at Moor Garrison The elderly or those who didn’t leave wouldn’t have any protection and would have been slaughtered at Goponga while the last stand with the Mabe survivors and the soldiers would have been for nothing
@QwertyWirt Жыл бұрын
@@randomguy-cy9mz oh yeah, I forgot about akkala citadel. Those who got there would of gotta trapped with a swarm of guardians at the bottom, and guardian skywalkers (I forgot the name) at the top. Their defenses combusted and demolished after a few hours, and those who didn’t already die were trapped in a building with no escape because of the rubble, boulders, and cinderblocks blocking all exits, with guardians stalking the outside, limited supplies, etc. Mabe Village SERIOUSLY had it rough during the calamity
@randomguy-cy9mz Жыл бұрын
@@QwertyWirt Mabe Village definitely did, but what do you think happened to Tabantha Village? It was out in the middle of nowhere, was it another guardian attack or did monsters destroy it??
@QwertyWirt Жыл бұрын
@@randomguy-cy9mz from looking at the map, to active guardians in the area, I think Tabantha Village just got abandoned. Before the calamity, we can see it was a mildly big and very populated village, home to Rito and Hylians. No guardians would have been able to make it through the severe cold of Hebra, since only like 2 guardian sky walkers and other types of guardians were able to fly and/or across the Tanagar canyon and make it to the warmest parts of Hebra, very far away from any people settlements. Guardians that were in places like the forgotten temple or around the North Lomei Labyrinth, were probably there for modern protection before the calamity. Those ones couldn’t really leave their areas, and decayed over type. Tabantha Village wasn’t a main Hyrulean settlement, like Rito Village, which is probably where they got most of their materials from, like Mabe Village did with Castle Town, since these town weren’t too big, or special in any way. They were known to sell Tabantha Wheat, but who has access to large grasslands and areas of it? Rito Village. I think Tabantha Village fell because the kingdom fell. With the king dead, and killer robots roaming around the kingdom, it might as well have been the end of the world. Tabantha Village was a populated settlement, but Rito Village even more populated and probably had to start conserving materials with Vah Medoh looming around Hebra, so Tabantha Village didn’t have a product seller anymore. The Rito who lived in Tabantha Village got lesser and lesser, until only the Hylians were left, who probably tried to voyage to Rito Village aswell, but since they couldn’t just fly there like the Rito, they tried to hike there, but while being short on supplies since Rito Village stopped selling goods to the village, they probably didn’t make it to the village, like the Mabe Village survivors. I’d think there was probably another group of Tabanthan Hylians from the village who instead wanted to go to the nearest exchange that was in the Woodland Region, the Maritta Exchange, to trade what materials they had left for better things if the settlement was still intact. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t. Like Tabantha Village, it was just abandoned, with barely anyone there, with only a few trying to trade garbage materials, and monsters starting to move in. With Tabantha Village abandoned, storms, Hebran blizzards, and avalanches also picked up during the 100 years, and buried the village. Only a few buildings that were on the main path were completely buried in snow. So, Tabantha Village was just neglected over the 100 years, and got abandoned. It was a great village shared with the Rito and the Hylians, and the most isolated Hylian settlement in all of Hyrule, until the calamity struck, and the people just got lesser and lesser.

Looking at these abandoned villages, I was kinda hoping that maybe they were going to at least bring them back. What do I mean? For starters I was more curious on Castle Town really, I remember in Age of the Calamity we got to see each village in its glory before the destruction of the guardians and the Calamity took over. It was nice to see what these places once looked like before becoming ruin. I was really hoping for a blacksmith but sense majority of the weapons on the surface had decayed ( even the yiga weapons too ) I can understand them not wanting to add a blacksmith because of the use of fusing enemies horns onto weapons. Still it really would have been nice to see at least one village return. Like Lon Lon Ranch, that would’ve been a cool place to have a horse racing mini game or just a place to get unique looking horses that have unique stats.

Lore reasons Deja Ruins is blocked off in the underground: the depths clearly change to reflect the status of surface Hyrule, as evidenced by other things reflecting modern changes. Like some sort of magic, like a dark world/lorule type thing. Real/game reason: All standing water in BotW is made by drawing up the water table on the map, so in order to make a depths below Hyrule but above that water table they had to make walls underneath every body of water. Otherwise we'd just see giant walls of water everywhere.

Being a Nintendo game BotW/TotK doesn't show us much about the massive casualties done by the calamity. That must be the reason why looking at these ghost towns closely gives us a different kind of feeling of loss. BotW Master Works even wrote something about how architects and their knowledge, especially stoneworks, must be mostly lost, wiped out by the calamity. Restoration of Hyrule is in a much more troublesome state than I could have imagined myself.

@@HyruleGamer I agree with Shepard, there are so many locations hidden like Tabantha or Goponga Village that could be touched on Another idea I had is the dark implication of Scouts Hill the scout would have seen the calamity and soon slaughtered by Guardians too soon to warn anyone

I didn't play Zelda at all before BOTW, but I love these new games so much, and if it hasn't already been covered, I would love to see the next game be set in the Great Calamity, 100 years prior to BOTW

Check out Age of Calamity, it's a spin off but it does take place in that timeframe. Very different style of gameplay and made by different devs but still cool for the story aspect!

after finishing totk I was thinking "there's no way nintendo is gonna make a third game in this hyrule" but after seeing this video, I can totally see a 10-15 time skip where all the time was spent rebuilding these settlements and maybe this games villain isn't going for complete destruction, but some other goal so that not as much gets destroyed. Maybe a story centered more around Link and Zelda personally as opposed to just saving hyrule a third time.

I really hope Nintendo doesn't go the whole post apocalypse route for the next Zelda game. I want to explore an alive and bustling Hyrule. Just think if you get to experience a Hyrule in its prime with another world to explore like The Twilight Relam or the Dark world.

A game that takes place in the age of the Zonai and Sheikah would be so interesting. They could also make a game with the ancient hero as the main character. It would be an interesting change and they could make him talk because he isn't Link

I loved that there was a Gerudo Cemetery in the depths although it really only served light item-based purposes and not something to actually explore. I wish they did more with the cemetery. Also, I was actually very disappointed with the Poes in this game. Poes are one of my absolute favorite Zelda enemies and now they’re reduced to ‘items.’ I really wanted to see a really cool lantern-carrying entity in Totk style. I also reeeeeaaallly love exploring the castle this time, too, especially with the music that plays in the castle now in this game. Totk’s castle theme music is soooooooo creepy and ominous and cool!!!

The reason why the water in deya is a wall in the underground is because they pulled up water from the bottom of the world to the top. There could still be some wlore related reason though.

I think that shadow hamlet was destroyed by lava, because you can see what looks like cooled down lava dripping off the edge of the cliff. In totk you can see this same cooled down lava texture in areas that had lava waterfalls in botw

I know it's not particularly 'canon', but some of these ghostly places can be explored in Age of Calamity in their former glory, including the Ranch. Granted, for time-based missions there isn't much leeway to run around, but I distinctly remember the map of the ranch during a sidequest that involved the mastery of double-handed weapons. I was so busy looking around I failed it the first time, haha. It's been ages (pun may or may not be intended) since I played, but I still remember that quire well. Of course I could be mistaken about it being that particular ranch but I recall it being in central Hyrule so I think that's the one. Would have to fire up the game again to be sure though.

please talk about the reason behind monsters mining zonaite in the depths.
@19TheFallen Жыл бұрын
It would be an interesting thing to discuss, and one that is partially addressed in the game. There are various diaries in the Depths you can find that written by various explorers, including the Yiga. I remember one such diary discussing how the monsters in the Depths never sleep, and are constantly mining Zonaite ore for their master (Ganondorf). So, with that, we know why they're doing it........Boss's orders.......The next question is what'd he want it for?

I agree......The whole side quest to rebuild Lurelin Village kind of lured me into this false sense of hope or line of thought that basically said "Oh? You get to rebuild this village? ......Does that mean......You get to rebuild all of Hyrule?!?!" only to think "........Oh......." when that thought was proven wrong. Well, darn......Maybe in game 3 if they make the Wild games a trilogy!

Honestly it seems like everytime there's a huge catastrophe in Hyrule , Hyrule Castle and Castle Town are always in the center of it. That's more than enough evidence for me if I were Hylian to decide to settle elsewhere even if the castle and town were rebuilt good as new.
