Trumpers don't get it, don't understand that, they want the rest of us non-trumpers to suffer as they suffer, drown as they drown, they want to prevent "the unworthy" from getting ahead even at great cost to everyone, to make everyone suffer except the "morally superior wealthy" because we want them to pay their share.

I respectfully disagree but understand where ur coming from. Imho its not that they see Trump as the solution but Trumps Policies here and abroad. I like the fact that Trump went out of his way to promote peace instead of war among other countries, i like how he was able to re negotiate our foreign import and export and i like how he took out the middle man and is why he was able to get the country up to speed. Which if u look at where we are now, seems with the inflation, chaos and uncertainty in our border, we are far from when Trump was at helm. All im saying people who support Trump have move pass to what we were told but instead base our choice on what we have seen and experienced.

@@michaelspurling4376 This was the misconception I had myself before taking the time and effort to research individual topics for myself. It was weird, seeming out of the blue one day, I just chose the craziest conspiracy theory I've ever heard of and decided to research it in an unbiased way. Of course I believed that it wasn't true, but I went about my research with the intension of being unbiased. My first surprise was that the conspiracy theory itself was not even what had been described in main stream news, I wasn't expecting that. After that I went and read the original source for the theory for myself. I then read all kinds of debunking/fact checking websites and then continued to research. I left my day one efforts believing that the original source material was strange indeed, but that there didn't seem to be anything too nefarious there. But then...the next day something inside me made me try researching the topic one more time. That's when I happened upon a video on the uncensored bitchute website and during the course of this video my stomach completely dropped. This horrific conspiracy theory I was researching was in fact true. The evidence shown in the video was irrefutable in my eyes. I then went back and watched the original main stream media reporting on this and was horrified to realize that what they were doing was in fact a cover up. My life hasn't been the same since all this, but I wouldn't have it any other way because even if it's horrible, I would rather know the truth of the world as well as I can while I'm here. Good luck to you Michael.

I appreciate you ladies' conversation so much. I'm in the Midwest (w. plains portion). Far right wing conservatives rule here. Katie's comments about the changes in reporting were so true. I'm in my 60s now but as an undergrad I took one course in reporting/communications. In those days the mantra was: "Who, what, when, where, how, & why?" Just give the facts and let the reader make up their minds. Then in the 80s (I think) came interpretative reporting of which I hated. That style was telling me what I supposed to think. I have a mind and don't insult the public's intelligence. I wish people would shop around for different news sources. Do facts checks the best they can and remember that now days all news sources have their agendas. Oh how I long for the good ol' fashioned style of reporting-just the facts! I shudder to think that many of the Midwest states will still vote for Trump. But since 1980 when Reagan came in & started to dismantle the middle class things for us have been on a steady downhill run. People are frustrated, angry, & desperate. That is key to Trump's success. I wish the public would remember that in the 50s under Eisenhower the morbidly rich were taxed and that money was used for the public good. We need that kind of taxation back and make those people pay. There was no billionaires until Reagan made it possible. May God help us!

Absolutely. Politico just a short while back did a profile/interview of a committed MAGA supporter in his late 50s/early 60s, was married with 2 adult sons, in a lovely home of value $750k +, senior project manager in IT. He wasn't painfully rich but it was clear he was comfortable, just solidly middle class to upper middle class depending on how you look at it. All throughout his profile the reasons that he gave for his political support were so damn illogical and incoherent, but there was a palpable sense of rage and despair that I think were the true guiding lights to his ideologies. He literally said - unashamedly - he wanted the whole system to "burn down". What did he expect to happen after the flames died? What final result would be worth it, what was he picturing? How would he keep his family from getting hurt in the burning? Would he truly be happy to see his countrymen suffer in the chaos of the "burning"? As you read on you realise that he hadn't even thought that far. He didn't care. He was so fixated on retribution all he wanted was the satisfaction of "the system being broken" even if he couldn't or wouldn't articulate how it would actually help him or his family.

I am in Indiana. Trump supporters here, in large part, support him because they have backed themselves into a corner. They have been for Trump so long and so deeply because they LOVED how much the people in their lives that drive them crazy or make them feel like they are racist or homophobic or old, HATE Trump. and over the years, the group of people they hate has grown to include their children, grandchildren, co workers, neighbors, life long friends, etc.. and they supported him through all the family arguments, and truly hurtful verbal sparring with people in their lives that they cant back away from him now, because that would mean they were wrong. JAN. 6? still support him. libel for rape? still support him. classified documents? still support him. supports Putin? still support him. faked a stolen election? still support him. Keep the electoral college. They maintain the seperation of powers. By preventing the 51% majority from ruling over all the minorities. But the voting system needs fixed. I suggest American Idol call-in votes for all primaries, to ensure great candidates are being put on the ballot from the get go. Make it a TV show, full season. Your phone number is tied to Your Voter ID. Which is referenced to Your SSN. To keep the deceased from voting. As the SS system knows comically fast when to stop paying out... If that's not an American voting system, I don't know what is.

I know mostly educated people, middle class. I know very few people who approve of or will vote for Trump. I am counting on the rage of women to win this election. But there is so much untapped potential here, and so many capable people who can never hope to turn into someone like you ladies. I worked so many extra hours to send three of my children to college, and they are doing generally better than their father and I did. We have been married 50 years this year, and are still in our "starter home" which is not in the best state. It was worth every hour, but I do worry about my grandchildren.

You can thank the GOP (Greedy Oligarchs Party) for all the restrictions on Obamacare/ACA. They fought tooth and nail to reduce who could be covered and made it possible for Republican majority states to opt-out of the ACA altogether. Once Trump was in office, the GOP cut funding to the bone. In October of 2017 they celebrated “the death” of the ACA because they cut funding so deeply that millions of Americans lost their healthcare coverage. Not only did they kick people off, they jacked up the rates so high millions more couldn’t afford the premiums. It was the opposite of what Obamacare was intended to do, and IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF GREEDY, HATEFUL TRUMP AND REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS. They simply cannot stand the fact that a Black man was POTUS and that he tried to do something good for all Americans. That’s what it boils down to. When Biden took office, he once again expanded ACA under an emergency COVID order. That’s now ending and I shudder to think how many people will die - men, women, children, babies - because GOP refuses to fund the ACA.

My father was a truck driver and Republican for most of his life. I saw him work multiple shifts and second jobs, outdoors in rain and snow and heat, getting up before Dawn and coming home late after a second job, to support his family so we could have a comfortable life.. It's not that I tried to convince him to be a democrat, but it did cause me pain to see that he was constantly supporting the Republicans - a different party than it is now! - who did not do much beyond lip service to support blue collar workers. I did try to point out that their policies weren't really helping blue collar workers. I think finally it was baby Bush who pushed him over to register independent. I hate to say this but I'm almost glad he passed away before the Trump error, he would be horrified at what happened to his Republican Party.

They have lose sight of the true meaning of having a government that works for the people and have allowed a constant bombardment of information to tell them otherwise. What is the foundation of the republican philosophy? Government is unnecessary, an opresor to the dignity of freedom. Donny is like a dream come true for republicans. Great podcast as always. I'm a frequent listener who loves listening to all of you all's perspective. I love listening to Katie always but Katie please go have that conversation with a smart black person that you respect. You might get a different perspective on why Trump supporters won't leave his side. I must say I laugh every time political analysis try to figure out why the core MAGA voters loves Trump so much an won't leave his side for nothing. You guy's probably are not going to like my analysis of this issue but I have yet to hear any coherent political commentary that the commentator who stated the commentary on this issue even believes. Here's my take. Around 1860 someone said we need to do something that's has never happened before in history and that is take up arms against our own country. For people to follow that path it must be something very very serious that they believe so much in that they would take up arms against their own country men, well it was. In a quick nut shell the southern ppl felt blacks where not a whole human as whites where and that these black people should be controlled and used as labor for Southern men use and ownership. These southern men did not want Slavery to end in the south. That's a quick version. So, fast forward to around 2007 this black man who's farther was from Africa (same country the slaves where from) decided to run for President and he won. That victory by this black man sparked two fuses in America. The one fuse this man lite was one that showed many white, black, asian and hispanic ppl in America that we all can together and elected a person based on his merit not his skin color. This showed the world that America was the beacon of democracy. But the second fuse that was lite was under the same white southern who most of their fathers and grandfathers and great grandfather's where white supremacy or white supremacy sympathizes and that group of ppl said enough is enough of this civil rights movement crap that anybody even a black man can becoming president. Their believed that now we have a black man president the next thing is voting a gay person to President or even a Asian transgender person possibly and this direction America was headed enraged these southern Republicans. Then came this guy saying the black man wasn't born in America which started the birther movement which many southern Republican still believe to this day. So the Republican Southerns got behind the guy who started the birther movement an they help get him elected as President. Then around 2017 this birther President said that white supremacist where fine people too. These Republicans which we all know have existed in the Republican party for many years always existed they where just the quite wing of the party. But these Republicans could not believe for the first time in their lifetime a sitting President of the United States acknowledged them and called them fine ppl. That's was the day Trump took over the Republican party and made it what it is today. 8n sports they say Legends are only created by their actions in the big game like the super bowl or the NBA Championship. Well being President is the big game and Trump became legendary when we uttered those words. In my opinion the Republican party has always been made up of about 10% to 15% of white supremacist then another 10% to 15% have been white supremacist sympathizer who are being forced to go along to get along by the 15% of true white supremacist. The Justice systems and the FBI did a great job from the late 70's till around 2015 of illuminating groups like the KKK but Trump unleashed that power when he said those words in Charlottesville and in my opinion he ordered the justice department not to focus on these Groups anymore as he knew he would need them one day... Can anyone say January 6. If you were a white supremacist or white nationalists or a white supremacist or white nationalist sympathizer you would never leave this President. You would love this President that finally acknowledge that white supremacist mined people do matter in America. You would fight for this man no matter what he says or do. In America to be a white supremacist and or a white nationalist and to be acknowledged by a sitting President is the greatest gift you could ever get. I've heard many talking heads on TV say this can't be about race, it has to be about something more. Those other issues do exist they many really care about them but the overwhelming factor in my opinion is the fact that they now have a leader that is speaking up for their white supremacist heritage. Can anyone say Confederate Flag. The advantage that Trump has had on every Republican candidate he has ever run against is the fact that Trump touched the third rail in politics which was acknowledging white supremacist and making them fell welcomed in America. No other republican candidates has ever touched the 3rd rail in our lifetime. I really wish you guys would acknowledge this has a place in the talking points of why these MAGA supporters won't ever leave this man side like you guys did. I know this topic no one wants to deal with but that's been the history of America. No one wants to deal with that third rail. Sorry for the long take on this but it just start flowing and I just kept typing.

Oh yes, this is all true, for a chunk of the Republican Party all along, historically. And, over time, increasingly moving beyond the dog-whistle phase to more overt racist language and behavior of white supremacy/nationalism. Search for & read Project 2025 if you want to learn all about the extremists' plans for us. And Yes the Fascist finally made it "ok" to be an outright vocal, and even proud, violent racist white supremacist. And, now, even beyond, to using the overt language of fascism...with few people batting an eyelash! That's why during the 2016 race and immediately in the beginning of his tenure, Many Many MANY PEOPLE WERE SAYING Don't normalize this.... his behavior and speech and that of his followers. We were warning the media as well not to cover the Trump administration and the changing Republican Party/Right Wing as if it was normal behavior. And especially as we saw the Republican Party being gutted and taken over by the most extremist wing of the party. And the House and Senate and Cabinet and agency heads and courts also being taken over, that eroded the checks and balances over the Executive Branch And that's why so many of us worked really hard on the 2018, 2020, and 2022 elections, to regain the House and Senate, and thereby the cabinet and agencies and, eventually, the presidency, and thereby the courts, to bring back the checks and balances aspect of the government. Also needing to work at the state level because all of that was seeping down into state legislature and governor and even local level elections as well. Because a lot of what's behind the extremist right wing takeover is a "States Rights" ideology. And as they eliminate our rights at the national level, we now have to fight 50 fights! I'm really glad you're raising these issues and, I hope, discussing them widely among everyone you know offline and online!, as it seems a lot of voters do not explore beyond the surface. Plus, understandably, the divisiveness and seeming chaos or complexities of politics does turn some people away. This actually is one of the strategies of the extremists - chaos, division, distraction, and so on. They'd be happy if folks just tune out, eg stay home and don't vote, or argue among ourselves, and ignore what they are doing as they destroy the government and democratic institutions. Until it will be too late to recover., But I do want to say that many of us, voters and activists and social justice organizations, KNEW ALL OF THIS in 2016 and before, eg Reagan presidency. We know the history, we connected the dots, and WE WERE VOCAL about it, in ALL of the elections, before and after Reagan. Maybe you have ideas about why people were not listening and BELIEVING then and the media NOT COVERING those messages? And how we can change it no before it's too late? ALSO... In your discussion of the white supremacist component of the Republican Party you have shown a large part of why a segment of the Right Wing was drawn into the Trump cult and will stand by him (with guns). But there are also OTHER FACTIONS in the Republican Party, that have joined the cult for other reasons. I'd argue that it's CRITICAL TO RECOGNIZE THESE TOO. Even if those factions are not themselves white supremacists, the point is they are comfortable with being in the same party as the racist white supremacists, and following the same con man - for their own cause. They also willing to vote for someone who is incompetent, racist, cruel, immoral, increasingly unhinged, an outright liar, and an indicted criminal, who is rapidly moving toward being an authoritarian. For example the powerful so-called Religious (Christian) Right - they're willing to support a completely immoral non-religious man who acts against everything nearly all religions stand for! To gain his support for their own issues. There are other examples of these factions, but I won't go into them here. I just think it's IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE there's many components to the "base" of the new Republican Party. And please don't doubt the level of MISOGYNY in the extremist party now. (Yes I know there are women who vote Republican, but they can be misogynists too! They support their (white) men! That's for another discussion!) All you have to do is listen to the cult leader when he speaks and the cult members too, the low opinion of women, and the misogynistic language. Not to mention seeing their policy proposals and who will suffer the most. Last, I need to say that we need to recognize WHO/WHAT IS BEHIND the now-changed Republican party, beyond the presidential candidate, behind the senators and representatives, the Right Wing organizations and media promoting the Trump candidacy. We would be naive to ignore WHO, AND WHOSE MONEY, IS PROPPING UP THE EXTREMISTS AND WHY. That's harder to see and harder to fight. And our side does not have the Right Wing's huge donors and corporate donor base. We really can make change, but it's not easy it takes work. I hope everyone reading this will volunteer, there's lots to do and it's already started. Hearing podcasts and reading online content can be great, if it motivates us to action. And, in particular, follow black women in voting! If you despair, I can tell you that Doing Something is the antidote to despair!

I am at 25 minutes in and must write a note here. I grew up in Illinois a small farm town, I was observant as a kid. I saw a lot of adults that were mean to others for no reason. I had to decipher in my mind whether what was said was true or not. And I got pretty good at detecting B.S. even from my own parents. I knew when a parent was rattled about something I had nothing to do with but would take after me for something i knew was unrelated and trivial. When One said if i had a brain I would be dangerous, I knew I had a brain and i made a bad judgement on a task assigned, but my brain learned. I came to be able to deal with critics and see fact from falsehood. Now as Child I was able to carry all those lessons forward, and anytime I felt a threat or bully I could consider the event and determine where i stood and why they were that way. I survived pretty much intact. In these times, I could hear anyone talk about anything and I can pick out B.S. pretty early or if someone is defensive for reason or aggressive for no reason. Plus having a Masters help me understand the roll of money, wealth and value. I saw how some people would literally change values for gain or to join the perceived winner. I considered these folks nonthinkers and of weak character. I would not engage in any business activity with folks like that. You could not trust they would answer the call if you needed something. So now I too wondered why all these folks follow and believe in trump. I had relatives tell me to F Off when we talked about it or getting shots and saving democracy. At first i was taken back then i reached back to my BS Detector and thought it over. I could reflect on relationships with relatives for over 70 years, and i could see the signs of weak character for lack or a better phrase. I could see selfishness, Self centered, greed, jealously, and it would all pile up when they would come after me when we talked about Global Warming, Help the Poor, Vaccines and all the things we see today. They had zero investigative thinking, they could only parrot back what they heard with no judgement applied to trust or Lie. They would jump in so deep they could not hear my words of rationale thought. When I called them out for repeating B.S. they called me a Hater, why do you hate everything so much. I only hate bully's and liars and I can tell B.S. when i see it. Can we fix these folks, don't know, we can't just drown them all, somehow they must see the light and change their ways. It hard to be optimistic when I saw very smart people in highly technical work, hating Hillary for her emails. Yes a WTF Moment for me. We have to try and we have keep hope alive. But don't forget the wealth gap has created some really rich folks that are no smarter than average and also house idiopathic behavior. If they lean in they can take everything we hold dear away. That is a very hard barrier to break down, Good Session, critical topics, enjoyed it very much, Lets make something happen, Dennis in Virginia

I told my son that my dad used to say, " I ain't believing this shit." It came up because this is insane in MY America. I ain't believing this shit.

Katie may be on to something with the class angle but I think perhaps we're looking at it from the wrong perspective. For the most part, Trump supporters (ie: MAGA) appear to be people who see the world in terms of "what IS", as opposed to "what COULD be", so they tend to experience life moment to moment and although Trump's only true interest in them is for their political value, that value has remained a constant throughout his entire political career, so he has now spent almost a decade pandering directly to them, consequently transforming them into a solid commodity who's collective favor is highly sought after by the kinds Elites that would never have even known or cared that they existed, otherwise. That's why Trump making people grovel before him isn't a turn off to them. They know that they are the primary motivation behind the debasement and they absolutely relish watching it happen. They love the feeling they get from holding so much power over the very people who have made them feel powerless their entire lives and know that they have Trump to thank. Add to this the rallies, held in their honor and tailored specifically to them, where all the world can see that in certain circles, THEY are now the Elites and Trump is their attentive and proud Creator. Both halves of a dubious uninion, validated and strengthened by hours, days and years of unadulterated narcissistic enmeshment that to them, feels like mutual loyalty. Transactional as it may be, this is love. Without them, Trump loses the political leverage he needs to win the election and stay out of prison and without Trump, they lose the political leverage they need to win the approval of the Elites and stay out of oblivion. It's parasitic perfection but they don't care because they feel emotionally vindicated

I also just became a grandmother, my 94 year old mom tried to hang on to hold her great grand daughter just one time. My son and his wife live across the country. I am sad to say that she passed 2 weeks ago today, and my son and his wife and baby will be here next week. My grand daughter does have my mom's name as her middle name and I'm sure if it's possible she is looking over her everyday. But ya congratulations to Katie. It's a wonderful thing.

you guys are amazing. The answer is to stop resisting what we don’t want and start creating what we do want. What we pay attention to grows. We have the power tools for teaching masses at our fingertips through the internet. We need to teach oneness consciousness. This is the manifestation of true justice, that we want for all what we want for ourselves. Our society is only as strong as our weakest members. When people are living from desperation, we have crime and corruption. When people have their basic needs met, they are free to explore the higher states of being that will create a society that truly is one for all.

Katie, from one Yorktown grad to another being a grandma is absolutely the best thing ever. Wonderful to see you in this interview. I no longer watch mainstream news. Have missed your journalistic integrity. Oh Katie, June 4 is the anniversary of my husbands death. He would have been the best grandpa. I'll never not miss him. Although he would be rolling with the BS our country is dealing with.

My Winter project is reading "Hitler and Stalin, Parallel Lives" by Alan Bullock. I have just completed the chapters where they gain control of their party and of the government. Fascinating and scary. I recommend that part to every reader of politics and history because it appears history is repeating itself. Loved the podcast. Thank you.

I just read Madeliene (sp?) Albright's book, FACISM. I could not put the book down! So chock full of facts and warnings about facist and/or communist governments. It portrays how the governments began and evolved. Sadly, many people don't read books anymore. To me, this book is a DREADRUL WARNING!
