So refreshing to hear a gynaecologist understanding the pain this procedure causes.Having had children at home without pain relief, I consider myself someone with a high pain threshold. The hysteroscopy was barbaric, brutal and left me with PTSD, unable to have a smear test since. The more women hear about their options the better their choices. Thank you for the video.

I had a hysteroscopy a few years ago and it still gives me the fear, it was horrendous, at the time I didn't have the knowledge I now have. A female Doctor carried out the procedure. I thought I was going to pass out. So glad there have been discussions over them recently.

Thank you. Wish every gynaecologist was like you. I had an outpatient hysteroscopy. Was told most women go to sleep during procedure or have to take 2 paracetamol! It was like medieval torture . I have had 2 children both normal deliveries. The pain from this was worse.

Thank you Dr Busby, I have been a patient of yours in the past, and really appreciate you supporting better pain relief for women undergoing this barbaric procedure.

Thank you Dr Busby. It’s both refreshing and reassuring to have a Consultant with your credibility speaking out about this. Transparency is everything and women should be given clear and honest statistics about this procedure. Describing the pain experienced by some as ‘discomfort’ in wholly inadequate and I’m thankful that your patients are given clear options for pain relief. This needs to be standard practice throughout our wonderful (but broken) NHS.

I will never go back for any gynae appointment ever again following my hysteroscopy. There is no point going for smears, as they only check for an std, the whole system is flawed.

Since my out patient hysteroscopy which I feel failed to give me informed consent. The pain was horrendous and caused me to pass out. It was not stopped the consultant carried on. It has left me with a deep mistrust in gynaecologists. I have had to return a number of times since for same reason PMB and I have had a GA and 4 x sedation in theatre. This is far more humane! Guidelines from the RCOG that are not adhered to by NHSTrusts and staff are not worth the paper they are written on. We need to trust that we will be given fully informed consent.

What a shame that all that you quite rightly advocate for is not already standard practice, as it should be. At the time of my barbaric hysteroscopy, I was still working as an RN and naturally trusted my fellow HCPs to obtain my informed consent. They did not. I was given no information whatsoever, and had a history been taken, which was standard practice during the days of my nurse training at a London Teaching Hospital, the number of red flags raised would have ruled out any attempt at OPH. I had a vasovagal episode as a result of the unbearable pain, and was gaslighted so successfully that I believed that my reaction was almost unheard of, as well as being my fault. It was for this reason that I did not make a complaint. Having found out some years later that I was lied to, I will never agree to having any procedure in the future without conducting extensive research prior to giving my consent. What a sad indictment of the health care provided by the NHS today.

Thank you for supporting us. I gave up further investigation and treatment when I was refused anesthesia for hysteroscopy when having stage 4 endometriosis. I experience enough severe pain on daily basis to not risk ill-treatment and additional trauma. Was never offered another appointment with GA.
@drgailbusby3 ай бұрын
@@renataiwanicka3509 hi, stage 4 endometriosis is definitely likely to make hysteroscopy more painful. I think you are well within your rights (as everyone is) to request a general anaesthetic. It would be difficult to imagine that this would be refused.
@renataiwanicka35093 ай бұрын
@@drgailbusby Thank you for your supportive reply. Unfortunately, I was not diagnosed at that time. My diagnosis came shortly after, but yes, I had undiagnosed DIE endometriosis when I was offered OPH. My reports of daily pain were ignored for decades, and this is another strong reason why every woman should have a choice. Many of us suffer undiagnosed conditions which may increase the risk of severe pain, worsening of the symptoms and long term trauma. Undiagnosed doesn't mean healthy. I also was refused any pain management for bowel endoscopy by BSGE colorectal surgeon who new that time about my advanced stage of Endometriosis. I gave it up again. I can barely manage my acute symptoms, but I can't manage additional and legal torture. Prefer to not be treated at all than be treated like a cattle.

Please are SONATA (radio-frequency thermal uterine fibroid ablation) patients at St Mary's Manchester able to choose from IV sedation+analgesia, general or regional anaesthesia? It would be worrying if Gynesonics excitement for awake/no sedation NHS 'SONATA' meant that the NHS removed the option of IV sedation+analgesia from hysteroscopic procedures.
