I have a lot of respect for Kia and Hyundai - they are the only OEM manufacturer that is making compelling electric vehicles without making a loss. That means they will probably survive unlike most of the others.

They definitely are right in going all electric for the long term. Fossil fuels will eventually get increasing price volatility and run out altogether. Companies who position themselves now for that predicament will come out on top in the long run

I hope Hyundai/Kia continue to do well with EVs. They’re bringing EV models to market for which there isn’t much competition. Until the EV9 arrived there wasn’t a 3 row SUV under $100k. The EV9 is fantastic, Ionic 9 looks good too. It’s great to have these new models available.

While I will never own their products again (my kia Sorento was produced with a known faulty engine), we need all the first principle thinkers as possible in the EV space. There will always be loyalty and disloyalty consumers and folks that will prefer to die before buying a Tesla, so a wide range of options will be optimal. Besides, Elon himself stated Tesla can’t make the transition to EVs by themselves. Good on them.

Tariffs will tank our economy and cause triple digit inflation. Tariffs raise costs for American companies importing parts for cars and chips. We do not have the manufacturing base to keep up with demand. Tariffs caused a trade war with China in the first Trump 4 years. Caused thousands of farmers to go out of business, their farms snapped up by greedy corporations. You are mistaken.

Nope! I have a 2024 Ioniq 6 purchased last June. I installed a BMS on the 12-volt battery. This battery cycles every day, meaning that it needs to be charged every day. Not surprising that you can barely get 3 years out of the OEM lead-acid 12-volt battery…

@@alexnutcasio936Funny you should mention races. Out of Spec Motoring recently uploaded an epic race of 13 EVs from Seattle to Boston. The Ioniq 6 was only 15 minutes behind the longtime road trip champ Model 3. Both were behind the more expensive Taycan. Beating the Model 3 in a road trip is a huge accomplishment for Porsche, even at triple the price. But Hyundai coming very close on the heels of a Model 3 with a car that is a direct price competitor, this would seem to say that the race is on.

Not just EVs Hyundai is the worst brand for fire safety. Don't take my word for it google it yourself. "Kia and Hyundai are grouped together, as their vehicles share many of the same parts - especially the ones at risk of catching on fire. Since 2015, these two car brands have recalled 2.3 million vehicles for engine fire risks. In late 2019, they reached a $760 million settlement for non-crash-related car fires"

The most important comment I can make here is to address the deficit in America's electric grid. Just as he has solved every other problem along the way in Tesla, SpaceX, etc., Elon will be the one to repair/rescue our power grid. The critics of EVs and/or Elon consistently point to the grid (correctly,) but refuse to acknowledge that Elon can fix it, while failing to offer any solutions of their own. Even without EVs, our grid needs attention. If EVs are the catalyst, so be it.
@danielking2944
@danielking2944 16 сағат бұрын
EVs in general already have the solution for grid inadequacy. As the number of energy storage batteries increases,whether at grid scale or in home systems,the peaks will progressively be eliminated. Vehicles have huge batteries that could more than level the demand of the owner’s energy demand. We typically have more than one car per household; one is usually at home and could be doing that .

Not in the US but was talking to someone here in mooseland about that. He said the grid is constantly upgrading. Power use always increases and they're always expanding capacity. Coping with EV's did not worry him at all. He said industry drinks far more power than EV's.
@tommydan55
@tommydan55 14 минут бұрын
There's no problem with EVs and the US power grid: "Studies have shown there is no need for extra power generation while EVs remain below 20 percent of the national fleet, and we're quite far from reaching that benchmark. Meanwhile, renewable energy gets more plentiful and cheaper every year, and solutions like microgrids and batteries will only become more common. Plus, EVs are extremely efficient compared to cars that burn fossil fuels. While we may need between 15-27 TWh of electricity by 2050 just to charge EVs, that's about half a percent of current capacity."
