Just replaced it, and didn't have to remove the alternator. There is two nuts that need to be removed with a 10 mm

But You can replace the thermostat if you remove the alternator correct or no

I noticed my coolant level was very low after my radiator light came while waiting at a red light. Light went off as soon as I started moving. At the same time I noticed my AC not blowing cold anymore. Can a bad thermostat effect all this or maybe it was the lack of coolant?

Much of it will come out that you'd have to replace anyway, so it's better to just empty and change it when you do the work.

What is the trick to keep the thermostat in without falling out while putting the thermostat housing back on? It tends to fall out of alignment during the reinstall. I ensure placement with the notch correctly but it keeps falling out of alignment when putting the housing cover on.
