I own a 2.0t Genesis, bought it new in 2012 ( BK2 model) when I was fresh out of college. I think they are great cars and pretty underrated. For under $27,000 I didn't feel there was any new car that even came close. I made 408whp/330wtq on 91 w/ a GTX3076 before my LS swap . That was with a stock clutch, stock bottom end and just basic mods. I make quite a bit more money now than when I was fresh out of college and own 5 vehicles, but I can't bring myself to sell my GC. I just use as a fun DD and tinker car now, but I always get compliments on it. This winter I'm half way through completing a 6.0 LS swap with an LSA supercharger, but will have it done by spring. It always bothers me that I never really see a good example of the car being reviewed. Not to be a hater but the KDM scene tends to be more about looks than speed. Most of the GC's around here are slammed on camber with little to no performance mods. This one here doesn't sound great (imo) and I can't stand that crackle pop tune. Nevertheless, it was nice to see it being reviewed years after they went out of production. I think these are good cars for kids in high school trying to get something with good potential without having to pay a ton of money. You can pick up a low mileage BK2 for $10k, put $3k in mods and have a car making 400hp. I wish there was something like this when I was in highschool.
@johnsullivan9373 жыл бұрын
Good fucking lord lol 400hp on the stock clutch, how long did that poor thing last? The previous owner before I bought my 2.0 burned through the stock clutch just from a 20lb boost tune with stock turbo. Lucky for me he installed a heavy duty aftermarket one right before selling me the car

To me also the bk2 front end doesn't complement the body lines and along with the fake hood vents, they can have it. In no way do I want to be a "hater" because the KDM vehicles are not often liked and I simply just own the other body style. I do think when it comes to the Genesis' people have their preference with the front ends, I just think the BK1 that was reviewed was not one that should've been compared to this. I used to have a 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track BK1. It was a fun car, especially in manual, pretty slow but had just enough umph to get going. My only complaint about the BK1 is build quality. I had the Track edition so it was right under the R-Spec in terms of trim level but it felt pretty cheep. Closing the doors sounded like more of a clanging and less of a solid door close. Car would refuse to start when I was down to a little under the last quarter on gas (I would be going straight to the gas station) and at ~20k miles my synchro was starting to go bad. I had since sold it for a 2016 Camaro SS, much happier but yes a lot more expensive. Summary: Not a bad car, Slow stock, Good Aftermarket support, Cheep, There is a reason they discontinued them.

In Europe, especially Germany, Hyundai is really hyped and popular, because of their i30 N hatchback, there also is a fastback version. Really good car for the price, but I believe you didn't get it in the States. I don't think we got the newest Veloster though.

I don’t know much about tuning but does having a popcorn tune hinder your performance at all? Or is it just not the best option for performance? So basically is it a good idea based on the performance alone.
@g35s3 жыл бұрын
No they don't do anything for performance tbh

By looking at the engine bay owner had a coolant hose blow and was running straight water. So many rust stains. But my daughter has an Elentra on coilovers and she gets so many compliments on the car. It's basic show no go, but gas mileage and reliability if amazing.

I love my bk2 3.8 had it for 2 years now. Even after a cheap exhaust upgrade it sounds incredible. Functional hood vents are a must for this car tho, if you're pushing it in any capacity, not even to mention track, it NEEDS cooling upgrades. Power steering, coolant, and oil all run VERY hot on this car. There's some great aftermarket for those issues thankfully and plenty of room in the engine and on the grille to make those happen. This 2.0 even looks sweet. Hope they have good alternatives for 3.8 tune wise soon

I had a heavily modded bk1 running 22psi. Funnest car I've ever owned. Years later I'm trading in my modded 9th gen civic for a bk2 this week. I missed these cars

@@gtlegacy8 thank you. I think is perfect for me to start with something this slow since I haven't driven anything fast before. I was also looking to get a BMW 325i 2004. But a lot of people sit for a first-time car is too expensive.

Bk2 Genesis 3.8 rspec owner the car is the best bang for your buck. Only thing missing with the 3.8 is the aftermarket world nobody really make parts for the 3.8 own my Genesis 4 years now blown my first motor at 20k the car have a oil pressure problem at high RPM when power shifting still a reliable car i recommend full synthetic oil change every 2500-3000k 93 gas only if you going to beat on it. keep in mind it's still a Hyundai nothing is forged you beat on it long enough things will break. It was my first sport car I drove it like I stole it every time I got behind the wheel. I learned alot driving the Genesis if you think the 3.8 won't bite you she definitely will respect the power if your a new owner or owner with very lil experience. Gennygang for life!!!

Everybody talks about the Veloster N, but the new Rspec got a lot of praise as well. Same engine, but they tuned it better with less weight and fixed the suspension.

Second car I owned and loved the style and look of it, I have the slightly less common copper color, and looks great i find. first car I'm learning everything on, just rebuilt my engine and put a bigger turbo on it, couldn't be happier with it.

Im a hyundai guy through and through. Multiple excels, a 2000 tiburon, 03 e gt, 03 elantra, 13 sonata. I too was thinking a 14 r spec turbo as a track car. Drove one, then i drove a miata....i have a 2002 nb2 miata in my garage. Lol It was a good first try, if bierman had been apart of this program and design, it would have been a different beast. The veloster n is the shit! Its a great car.

If you thought that had a much improved driving experience, you should check out a Blood Type Racing tuned Bk2 2.0t. Also, the brembos and lsd on the R-spec package are pretty great and just make the car feel even more planted and performance oriented.

I've been really attracted to the first gen Genesis turbo cars...it reminds me of the Hyundai Tiburons which neither needs body kits or lowering, just some nice 17 or 18" rims and go!💪

I feel like an update review of Tyler Cordura’s Genesis would be great now that he has a bigger turbo pushing about +400whp, a cleaner wide body, and much more. It has changed a lot.
@robertsomerville3203 жыл бұрын
I love the car, and as we all know, if you have a proper custom exhaust fabricator, you could change the exhaust note to a much more pleasant tone. That particular car sounds like something is loose somewhere, also a manual is a must.

Hyundai Tiburon started the sport car for Hyundai but Tiburon wasn't a sport car more sporty looking car. Can't wait get my turbo Tiburon built done soon so you can review it. Will be getting another one with supercharger. Will love get a Genesis Coupe for a rear drive.

I don't know if the genesis is the same as well but I know Hyundai tunes the ECU so its like super safe. Like if you turn the traction control off it literally cuts out immediately as if it was still on. That one thing that I hated as the car seemed to not even get out of its own way in certain instances
