Great video thanks. Helped me loads, as I had to do both rear discs, pads, and handbrake shoes. A complete teardown and rebuild of the rear brakes. The 17mm bolts through suspension arm were seized on my car, but a generous helping of penetrating fluid and my cheap electric impact wrench got it moving enough for me to use hand tools the rest of the job. I think I paid less than £50 for the impact wrench a couple of years ago, so it has paid for itself on this job alone.

Great video. I have had to do this job a couple of times on the rear brakes. With a 14mm cranked ring spanner it is possible to remove lower bolt on brake carrier without disturbing that suspension arm joint. First sign that the brake lever has seized is that the handbrake lever becomes more slack. In the cabin, pull up the little piece of carpet behind handbrake lever so you can see the arm that pulls on the handbrake cables. With handbrake on this lever should be at right angles to the cables. If it sits at an angle, the side which is closer to front of car is the side where the lever in brake drum has stuck.

Thanks to this video I just realised that the rear brakes also have braking shoes (for the parking brake). I have been trying to remove rust from the rear disks by applying the handbrake during the winter while driving on salted roads. Now I understand why pulling the handbrake did not make the disks shiny...

What is the droplink good for? What would the car be like to drive without any droplinks?

why you haven't tried to loosen the brake from the Drum Adjuster, as you shown at the end of the video. It would have saved all the work.

Hi, I had no problem removing the brake drum so it was not necessary. When installing the brake drum, I adjust the shoes, It was enough to watch the entire movie and conclude that if you cannot remove the brake drum, you need to loosen the adjuster.... No problem, next time you will be remember it.

Only just bought this car and having this problem .Thanks for the video.Would never have guessed it was this. Also ,who the hell designed the sway bar to be in the way of the caliper bolt , nuts.

I wouldn't leave the caliper swinging by the brake hose. Either tie it up or rest it on something so as to avoid any potential damage.
