John Hagen I live in Aus too and test drove one of these a few days ago. You made a good choice, I want one! Which colour did you order and did you go for the "luxury pack"?
@johnhagen18446 жыл бұрын
schumifan78 I went for black. I'm getting a bit older at 57, so the blue looks like the color that baby boys wore. Yep I went for the luxury and the sunroof. Getting old and like things to be easy. I do like this car but I do think a FK8 would smoke this thing around the Nurburgring....that said it does have slightly more power and is more expensive. I also think you’d loose less money in a Type R due to the brand lineage / heritage. Both great cars but the styling of the N is far more subtle which will most likely suit more people. Cracking review again though Sid! 👍🏼👍🏼

Great honest test Sid, really enjoyed that. Indeed the I30N is a jewel in disguise. As you say much more engaging than a golf GTI or Rs3. Just a great drivers machine that engages the senses.

Nice review Sid. I have one in the P blue. Running a Dt-uk Tuning Box and I had the car Dyno’d - 294bhp and 343ft-lbs torque. You’re 100% correct - the chassis can handle that extra power and it puts it in the Type R range. It’s a hooligan when you want it to be and as subtle and understated as a daily driver.

I work at a Renault/Hyundai garage in Stirling and they’ve only managed to sell one of these, it was an ex demo and it went to a 63 year old women who bought it. I understand it’s a Hyundai and they definitely aren’t the most reliable cars on the planet but it’s an amazing piece of kit and so far there hasn’t been many problems that I’ve heard of. A few recalls but nothing like a focus RS head gasket that’s for sure 😂

@@cliffwilkins9178 the "feel" of everything to do with the car. I.e. the feel of the interior, is it cheap and squeaky or is it well made. The feel of the gear change, is it clunky or refined. Or the feel of the steering wheel, does it feel hollow, or solid/sturdy. Etc etc. My 2004 Audi has amazing build quality, but very unreliable. It's the other way round with Japanese and South korean cars.

Bas bzb the N is a much more fun car to drive and the interior is actually not that bad, in some ways it’s nicer than my GTI. And sure it’s a Hyundai, I had initially written the car off because of that but manufacturers can change. Hell, VW once only built the beetle, one of the most basic cars available designed with the only purpose of being cheap and affordable.

I have one and I confirm it. It is the best driver's car for the PRICE!
@user-wv9mr2nh8h6 жыл бұрын
It's Joel Aaannnddd it's of Korean "quality" which is definitely improving but is nowhere near German or Japanese quality. It's powertrain and drivetrain have not been tried, tested, tweaked and improved throughout several decades as some other competing cars' have. The i30 N has no pedigree whatsoever. It is unknown as to whether the i30 N, a new type of car for Hyundai, will stack up well, especially the engine as it uses a turbo, that is, forced induction; which will tend to degrade certain components of the car quicker (the engine and the turbocharger itself). It looks like a MK6 GTI that has been riced-out and it is a FWD a.k.a. the default, budget way of transferring power for cheap cars that are overwhelmingly and simultaneously not high performance cars ;( Finally, it is a bit too heavy and runs out of huff in the higher rev ranges. Therefore, I highly doubt it is the best car in the world mate. That's an absurd claim. Also, Hyundai should stop marketing this car as track-bred, it's cringeworthy because it's not bred at all. Period.

As well as badge snobery, i think depreciation is probably the biggest factor for most people when chosing not to buy one of these, it's what is putting me off from buying one. But i could also say the same about the new megane RS, which also looks like an awsome car, so i suppose it actually is badge snobery that is the main factor, which causes the massive depreciation, shame really.

Good review Sid. I have considered one of these several times but cannot justify spending £23k on something not proven. That price range will get you a mint approved used Golf R. Not only will it retain its value more but it's faster, corners better, 4wd and doesn't have a fuel pump issue. I really don't think it's in the same league as the hyper hatches you mentioned not when it's to rival the Golf GTi /Fiesta ST

Focus RS and golf R kiddy cars stfu
@Iron883Man6 жыл бұрын
Sean Tottenham don’t agree on the focus but a Golf R is a kiddy car. Focus RS is more expensive and haldex 4wd. The i30 N may not be as fast, but out on a public road it is more fun to drive without having to risk your licence like in a focus RS. Comparing second hand price to new is retarded. You can buy an i30N that has been registered and with less miles as well for a lot less money than a Focus RS. If I’d buy a second hand I would buy the Focus RS MkII. That would cost you about less than a registered i30N but at least MkII has the 5 cylinder. I owned one of those and still went for the new i30 N over the new focus RS. The i30 is simply the better car atm at 30.000 EUR. Better than a second hand RS mkiii
@Iron883Man6 жыл бұрын
V P ...driving dynamics on a Ford are still far superior to anything coming from VAG. I would pick a Focus RS over Golf R any day, every day. The RS just isn’t as public road friendly. You have to drive it fast to feel it is a good car. At low speed it doesn’t feel very special at all because you need to feel how it grips. suspension is track focused (aka far to hard for the bad roads). With the MkII the only thing that made me forgive/ forget the suspension was the sound. Interior isn’t to bad. The T1 was crap,but the T3 is pretty decent. I own an i30 N now and the interior is about the same as the Ford. Nothing special but good enough. Interiors don’t make a hot hatch better imo. These cars are all about fun from driving. If it’s comfort you’re after, buy an A200, A3 TFSI, 120i or Volvo V40 T3. Those cars will take you from A to B in comfort and still reach legal speed limits fairly quickly.
@mohammedsalimahmed52306 жыл бұрын
Sean Tottenham I couldn't spend £20k on something so common (GTI, Focus) , it's litterally seen everywhere where I live, UK. Saw i30np the other day and it sure made my head turn, especially with it's amazing sound. A gti? Pretty damn good car but....meh. no emotion.
