Speaking from bias as I own one (picked up from Hyundai 2 weeks ago)... I friggin love the design, compared to most sedans on the road it stands out, and is unique, and I've had a lot of positive feedback and eyes, but I can for sure tell people will love it, and others will hate it. Oh and in my opinion audio is amazing too.

Sound system is always on my mind when looking at cars and I never see even a little sniff at what the reviewer thinks of the sound. Even if the quality of sound would sound crap through the recording, it would be nice to get your personal comment. Load up a nice quality track on Spotify and go for it. I am on my second Elantra Elite having the first one for three years and just gone four years on my second one. I have not had to report one fault on either vehicle in that time so I am an avid Elantra fan. I thought the Elantra brand stood it out from the other Hyundai models so I am disappointed to see it rebranded as an I30 and think that is a backward marketing step. About the only thing I wish my Elantra had is HUD is I think this is a great safety feature that I think all cars should have. I was hoping the new model would have this. Great review.

At 8:08 is reported that it has 16.7 cubic feet or 474 liters of trunk or boot space. This is not a SEDAN TOP 500, which belongs to the select group of those whow have more than 500 liters of capacity in its trunk or boot, but it is bigger than the trunk of the MOST SELLING CAR IN THE WORLD for more than 10 years, the Toyota Corolla with 470 liters of capacity. Tom what is your opinion of this Hyundai I30 ELITE Sedan automatic compared to the Kia Sport Plus Sedan automatic. Yes I'm also aware Kia and Hyundai are the same company I want to buy a new car next year I've got a 2003 Toyota Echo was bought new. I'm 55 years old I've always only had sedan cars never hatches. I have been researching studying alot of car brands Final choices are Toyota Yaris ZR auto in the Red with Black roof the Hyundai I30 ELITE auto hatchback and now the Hyundai I30 auto sedan I understand have an appreciation about cars well. I live in Melbourne in the midway Sth East subs so I don't do much country driving except perhaps sometimes in future but have been used to country driving of course. I'm saying this because the 2 litre petrol engine I heard what you said about it in this video But will it consume too much petrol compared the difference to the 1.5 litre in the Yaris ZR ? As much as I like a Hyundai Nline I30 ELITE Turbo engine at 1.6 litre the after costs will cost me more money for servicing than a standard petrol engine I've never had a Turbo I'm a competent driver also. I can initially afford to pay next year for a brand new car But the hidden running costs afterwards of a Turbo engine including costs more to insure are exceeded than a standard 2 litre petrol engine. My parents and I have been with our mechanic since I was 15 years old he told me don't buy a Turbo. My life situation is I'm on a DISSABILITY pension I don't work and no children no family live alone But contrar yes next year Il be receiving funds to be able to buy a new car. I don't want near new nor second hand nor demo model Brand new virgin car with my color choice just like how I gotten my Toyota Echo.My mechanic is telling me stick with a Toyota and buy the Yaris No Corolla I don't like too common regardless there popular Amazingly enough I was counting cars during my dog walks in my street and the street behind me there are 42 Toyota cars I live in small streets.Noone has a Hyundai.And 2 different house hold neighbours of mine have Toyota Yaris and both told me buy a Yaris. But now seeing the Hyundai I 30 Elite sedan and the amazing latest Hyundai TV ad where it promos the 10.2 inch sat nav direct guided by satellites and the seats look so thick solid made good for my lower disc back and sciatica is a bonus. I like the Blue and Dark Grey exterior colours Hyundai Also is the Elantra stopping to be imported for Australia. Are this year's Elantra the last for is that why how you meant that this Hyundai replaces the Elantra. I want a long running model car that won't change its type model and name eg the i30 Corolla yes Echo became Yaris but it's not going to be deleted from being made. Eg the Jazz and Honda City won't be made no more Well the Honda City is a crap car. But the Honda Jazz was a well spaced size car internally for a hatchback .Another thing I don't want an SUV car why what for I don't live in the country rural I don't have kids except for 1 Japanese Spitz dog fur kid I take him everywhere And I don't get to drive rural but will sometimes eventually eg.going to the Dandenongs or I love Phillip Island and Gippsland. And I don't drive interstate. Sorry Tom for this long message.Please respond Thanks

Solid review! When you eventually review the N-line, can you make notice of the upgrades the engine has received and having reviewed the previous version of the 1.6 turbo, maybe point anything you can notice from the now older N-line hatch to the new sedan in terms of engine performance, fuel economy, power delivery etc. Apparently the updated 1.6 t is supposed to be quite economical with its CVVD and other updates.

Great car , shame on the lack of 5 star ancap rating it doesn’t seem like Hyundai has plans to put Center air bag on i30 and other small suv models . It’s fully spec safety wise except the Center air bag, so this gives it a 4 star rating max under new guidelines.

Power adjusted seats without seat memory is over rated. I don't see the point really. It just adds weight, more possible things to go wrong, another thing that runs on the battery if the car is off and it's just slower to operate than a manually adjust seat
@chasingcars4 жыл бұрын
Memory is a nice addition but far too many manual seats (including these ones) do not have thigh angle adjustment, and the seat base is “fixed” too flat - which means that longer legged folk like myself never get comfortable. Electric adjustment usually includes a thigh angle movement.

I think ANCAP have lost the plot.. So a 4-5 year old car may have a 5 star rating, but yet a newer car like this would only get a 3-4 star rating, but could be twice as safe. That's a good way of confusing the majority of the car buying public.. Also with this being on a completely new platform. I think they have miss the boat in not offering the 1.4 T-GDi engine. With 103kw & 240nm. While slightly down on power to the 2.0lt The torque difference would make it a better drive with much, much better fuel economy.. The styling is, well lets say different. But at least it's not generic in any way. Hyundai have come a long way & it's showing in their styling & quality..
@chasingcars4 жыл бұрын
Agree, I'd rather see it with the 1.4 T-GDi. The old-school atmo 2.0L should have been shown the door years ago, but the brand is doubling down with new iterations of it!

Annoys me when cars get torsion beam rear end in cheaper versions yet I’m struggling with the design language inside and out - reminds me of a Toyota Echo sedan in terms of its mix of angles and loss of design over the hatch yet I like the LR Focus sedan and was a Ford Meteor fanboy in twin carb spec in early 80’s. Great review as always Tom:)
@sams39134 жыл бұрын
I’m a huge advocate for the Korean brands (Hyundai and Kia at least) for innovating & bringing great tech to mass market. Kia using Schreyer etc for design was amazing. I own one. But if statements like this design & maybe the Sportage current front end are a mark of the marques for future designs then I’m gonna sit back & scream internally. It’s a hideous design. That’s a mix of first gen Prius/Leaf/cybertruck & it doesn’t work for my eye. 2021 Tucson interior - amazing. This one... nope. That grab rail... I’m a bit lost here. I don’t wanna be a pr!ck, but hard plastics are better used for disposable cutlery. Mother Nature would agree based on that interior.

Judging by the driving mentality, skill level of drivers and total apathy of authorities to look beyond speed- the entire motoring experience in Australia should be given 2 stars and that is where safety should start. Speeding up when overtaken yet literally crawling on single lane roads, cut off an oncoming vehicle dangerously causing it to brake then move at a Learner speed ahead, speeding up at roundabouts to stop someone from passing, abusing passing motorists when they are trying to get past, trying to cut off an overtaking vehicle when lanes merge - need I say more? Oh yes, using the inside lane ONLY at roundabouts causing a mile long traffic jam is another. Then one headlight, one tail light, no tail light, driving in the middle of the road in an unmarked road, driving on the wrong side of the crest, overtaking cyclists regardless of what is around the corner...possibilities are endless and I get accused of being impatient!
@ajx47714 жыл бұрын
Been waiting for the drop of the new i30 range for a couple of months now and what I’ve seen so far is a little underwhelming to be honest. Add to that the fact I feel we’ve been lied to by Hyundai with the the hatch. Showing the new headlights as a teaser and when it is finally unveiled, we get the recycled old version. But seriously Hyundai, halogen lights? Not giving an Ancap rating? Does show what they really think of the Australian market.
@chasingcars4 жыл бұрын
The carryover N-Line hatch front end is bizarre. My only guess is that the N-Line refresh hasn't quite been finished and will be rolled out later? I'm reviewing the Elite hatch next week. Will seek more answers on N-Line before then.

@@chasingcars looking forward to it. What I am waiting for is the I30N DCT release. That most likely will have the revised front end. (1) Because this car isn't sold in Europe, it won't be tested by Euro NCAP (and therefore, Euro NCAP data won't be translated 'automatically' by ANCAP.) (2) They won't provide a car to ANCAP directly because it won't get five stars -- as it doesn't have a centre airbag. It has everything else it needs, but without that centre 'bag, it can't get five stars. So I guess Hyundai's real thinking is "why would we pay to only get four stars".

All the manufacturers are skimping on engines, why put all that effort into the setup of the chassis and gearbox and put gutless engines in them. America is the opposite, they put heaps of power in a lot of their cars.

Agreed. With the 2.0L there is a lot left on the table. The N-Line (and hypothetical forthcoming N) should correct this!

Why would anyone buy a stupid SUV when you can have this?

They wouldn't be able to pay me enough to drive a car with that front facia. Looks butt ugly. What were they thinking?

7.5 L to 10L for front wheel? No thanks, I feel the civic or the corolla has better handling and comfort!

Haven't had a chance to test the in-town economy yet but that's my estimate.

I have a current model Kia Cerato with the same tech and outputs. I am averaging 6.6L/100km over 15000km. Urban and extra-urban figures pretty similar. Well below ADR figures.

Too flashy and too many lines. Not very tasteful

The steering wheel is hideous. That handle bar is also hideous. Unfortunately these 2 things ruined an otherwise nice car.
