What is the best mode for hilly areas? One pedal driving (I-Pedal) vs Auto Regen mode including level 1+3 with manual regen up to the top of the hill and back down to check on consumption.
Also 2 weeks of eco-driving, how well did the car do with roughly 20% motorway driving at 62mph and the rest city driving and over 2 hours of idling waiting around with motor on?
Finally, we see how long it takes before the car charge speed slows down on a 50kW charger.
00:00 intro
02:08 how to activate drive mode and regen levels.
03:45 Hill climb Test #1 eco with one-pedal driving (I-Pedal)
07:23 Hill climb Test #2 eco with auto regen
12:15 Hill climb Test #3 eco with level 1 regen
13:35 Hill climb Test #4 eco with level 3 regen
14:47 Hill climb Test #5 eco with manual regen
15:40 Conclusion of using different regen modes in hilly areas.
16:41 Recap of milage on one tank after 2 weeks of eco + I-Pedal driving
17:17 how long it takes before the car charge speed slows down on a 50kW charger

I use the adaptive cruise, normal mode and auto regen all the time (well, most of the time). Works for me. Normal mode only uses RWD unless extra power/acceleration is required, auto regen applies level 3 regen when not in cruise mode and a full stop (without creep) is merely a matter of applying the left paddle for max regen retardation and it stays stationary once speed drops to zero (when the paddle can be released). Simple driving only affected when the steering wheel is well off centre. I don’t drive particularly fast but do occasionally enjoy the sport mode performance. 3.7m/kWh over the last 5k miles is OK for me - I don’t expect to achieve the economy of the RWD models on smaller wheels and quite a lot less available power.

Unfortunately there's a 14-16 week delay on a factory order, so I won't be picking mine up until the end of Jan :( I'm interested to know what the efficiency drops down to in "hooligan" /show off mode. Also what impact the weather has. It might be worth doing some of these tests again in more typical Scottish weather ! Really informative video - keep up the good work.

last time i was showing off the car and booting it i got 1.6 miles/kWh low consumption but 0-60 launches was fun :D yes I'll be doing some deep winter driving and compare with drives when the weather is better next year.

regen is a function of rate of recuperation and time it is being charged obviously so each car has its sweet spot. 2 engines will slow it down faster, not necessarily recuperating that much more.
@briansmith7443
@briansmith7443 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen a few of these tests now with fairly similar results and I think as with any car most of the efficiency comes from how you drive. Gentle acceleration and pre-emptying junctions etc will give far better results than relying on the tech alone. Any time you can maintain speed will help as although regen will recoup energy, it will always recover less than you need to accelerate back up to speed. Coasting is ideal if you don’t need to actually slow down and lower levels of regen will work best on country roads etc, I-pedal should be better in town as you need to come to a complete stop more often for lights and junctions and 0 should be better on motorways. Of course Auto in theory will preempt the necessary changes more efficiently than our Brian’s can unless you are a very experienced hyper miler with nothing to think about!! One thing you didn’t mention about I-pedal is that it locks you into AWD so the car cannot be at it’s most efficient during acceleration it always uses both motors. This is obviously not offset by the extra regen as you have showed. Can’t wait for mine to arrive in Jan… I can put my theories to the test!! 😜
@LemonTeaLeaf
@LemonTeaLeaf 2 жыл бұрын
If you can master then manual regen with RWD and switch to I-Pedal when slowing down with AWD then I'm sure you can get some great economy. I did try in the video but failed 😆

How do you switch between i-pedal and auto? Mine just goes to auto and I can't figure out how to set it to i-pedal. Also the car will not come to a full stop: it regens until 5kmh or so, and then it keeps on going like a car with automatic gearbox.

It'll be interesting to see how the EV6 does in comparison. We've got the E-Niro 4 at the moment which often returns 5-6m per Kwh. Not sure if the boxier shape of the Ioniq 5 reduces the range slightly. Our EV6 GT-Line S is due for delivery beginning of November.
@LemonTeaLeaf
@LemonTeaLeaf 2 жыл бұрын
our kona does about 4.5-5 mile/kWh being in the valley, so i think the much bigger AWD Ioniq 5 is doing well at 3.6 miles kWh. The EV6 GT-Line S has a better coefficient than my brick shape Ioniq 5. Did you get the AWD or the RWD? the RWD will get you better efficiency.
@NickPowellPhotography
@NickPowellPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
@@LemonTeaLeaf I got the RWD for that reason. However the 20" wheels reduce the range a bit as well, shame that you can't have the S with 19's.

@@NickPowellPhotography If I didn't get the Project 45 and know what I do now, I would have got the RWD also as I don’t really need the acceleration and rarely drive fast.

It's the same car on the same platform. So the differences are mediocre, mostly based on its form. But as there are so many things impacting range, you will probably nit be able to notice unless under special testing conditions.

i cant imagine they have change the regen system other than the extra modes and ipedal from the kona and niro, so regen 0 wont let you clean the brakes, it will have blended brakes the same as kona and niro, so the foot brake uses regen to slow you not the friction brakes, and on the kona/niro at least it will get a much higher regen level than holding the paddle can give, should be easy to test, put in in manual regen lvl0 drive and use the foot brake to see if it will regen. To clean the brakes you need to drag them at low speed where there is no regen
@Ratbat69
@Ratbat69 2 жыл бұрын
actually would be interesting to see what you get on that run with regen 0 and just use the foot brake, theoretically coasting on regen0 should be more efficient as regen isnt 100% effective so you lose some energy in the conversion....

It's just a different way to drive which I don't think everyone gets. Most people only know one way to drive. Hard on the brakes, hard on the gas.. I must be fast! Drive like a professional and be smooth, use the cars momentum. Keep the wheels moving and steady speed up hills. The trouble is 95% of car drivers have never driven anything else and have no concept of what they are doing. They never take further training and still drive the same as when they past their tests. Do any of the drive modes really make any difference or does the fact you've put it in Sport just change the drivers attitude? Now there's a challenge for you.. ✌️
@glockmanish

In the E-GMP cars (Ioniq 5, EV6 and GV60) the modes actually change the drivetrain on AWD models. Eco: RWD only Normal: on-demand AWD (front axle motor is only coupled when the requested torque exceeds the rear engines torque capability) Sport: permanent AWD But about the throttle usage by most drivers: A big part of that is the stupid throttle curve of modern cars ... you have a hard time driving smooth. On top of that you have to take the turbo lag of the downsized engines into account. So in modern combustion cars you have to give it throttle for it to pick up speed and when it is in boost you have the lack of dosility because of the stupid throttle curve. Once this is trained over years, it is hard to loose that habit.
