I drive the Ioniq 28 kWh version for more then one year now. I also tested many other EVs (eCorsa, i3, ID3, Audi eTron...). The Ioniq is a superb choice if it comes to value for money. Especially for the 28 kwh version the prices are very low in Germany. The Ioniq has enough space for a family. The car Is very efficient and the 28 kwh version is charging very fast under ALL conditions. No rapidgate, no Coldgate. 60+ kw constant charging power till 80%. Very reliable . Together with the extraordinary efficiency the car is very fast on long trips, even so it has a very small battery compared to e.g. ID3. In Germany the running costs (especially insurance ) is much cheaper then a M3. For people who prefer economic cars the Ioniq is highly recommended. The range is good enough for most use cases - at least if you can charge at home for day to day use

The new 38kwhr will be lucky to get 45 kw rapidgate best conditions , even though the battery is water cooled what a shame.

@@matthewspry4217 Matthew,hi ! Are you suggesting that the new 38kw is any worst than the 28kw in any way. Honestly I do not own enough finances to purchase the new one,but could be attracted to the 28kw- used. Thanks !!

@@georgepotcovaru913 I own the 28kwh model and it is true that people buy this model instead of the one with the bigger battery much due to the new one charging slower on fast charging stations. I would say that the difference is around 60km range . It is extremely efficient and we love it. I just wish I hade gone with a higher trim level . Trunk is a bit small but that is the only downside for this car.

Dave, good review, I drive the 28kw version and this year we bought the 38kw for herself. I like the updates on the 38kw but it is not as responsive (only marginally) as the 28kw. My wife drove the ID3 as this was going to be her car, the car drove very well, was responsive but she didn't feel comfortable with the seat, did not like the dash and the interface seemed to be lagging. As we were constrained by time, the lack of stock in some garages and the price, we have 2 Ioniqs and have left the ICE world behind, also for me the charging speed doesn't matter as we charge at home most of the time but I have done multiple trips from Dublin to Tarbert (circa 500km) in the 28kw with a stop in Moneygall on the way down for a coffee and charge and the same on the way home for lunch and the charging rate didn't cause an issue, I have subscribed and look forward to more reviews.

Thanks Brian, appreciate you taking to time to let us know about your experience. Your point about charging speeds is very valid, particularly as most people only charge overnight, so in reality charging time is less than ten seconds (plugging in and then plugging out the next morning!). We frequently hear long journeys being cited as a negative against EVs, yet why would you buy a car for that one week/weekend a year trip? Thanks for subscribing, hope you enjoy the rest of our videos. ^Dave

I’ve owned the hybrid 2019 version and found the seats to be quite uncomfortable over longer journeys. I wish Hyundai would give the option to extend the seat under the thighs for comfort. It actually became a deal breaker for me. I was however very happy with every other aspect.

I slightly prefer the interior of the previous model Ionic. I don't like touch buttons. Touch screen is fine, just non-touch screen buttons should be physical. Thankfully they kept the steering wheel buttons physical. ID3 is a terrible experience in this regard.

Shame about the charging time...non starter for many,had the hybrid 2 years and only negative thing was lack of rear wiper which was a right pain on irish roads in irish weather. Design flaw.

The biggest hesitation for me for EVs in general is not the range, but the charging time. As long as an EV is not my only car, I could consider owning one.
@CompletecarIe
@CompletecarIe 3 жыл бұрын
But if you can charge at home overnight then the charging time is largely irrelevant. In that sense, it only takes ten seconds to charge your car, five seconds to plug in, five seconds to unplug before you leave in the morning. ^Dave

On longer journeys you would (or at least I would) stop for coffee and a bite to eat somewhere; I can do this when the car is charging. If I had an ICE car I would then have to go to the refuelling station adding a further 10-15 minutes to my stop.

Kona is much smaller and uncomfortable in every seat in it. I was 100% getting a kona u til the day I sat in it. The ioniq is worth the loss of miles bvse the pricing on the lease is insane..as well as quite comfy to deive...even fun and peppy.

It's a pity that the larger battery from the Kona isn't available in the Ioniq, but this size is suitable for a lot of people still. ^Dave

If u watch Bob Flavins Ioniq review, I’d say you would think different. MG ZS is a far nicer, bigger, more practical and overall better car in my opinion. Never have been a massive fan of the Ioniq, bob gave it a grilling

@@ev6-joerg ye I quite like Bob and I watch his videos. I have read through nearly all the comments on that videos before. I certaintly think, Bob went fairly hard on it but some of it’s characteristics are quite poor as there is a lump under the drivers seat where headroom is compromised,(apologies if I get this wrong but I think some batteries are stored under the drivers seat) interior being very dull, infotainment is really good in it one of the best in the car industry atm. I don’t think it was Bobs worst review tbh, sometimes u just have to be firm on a car and if it isn’t up to one’s standard 😬. Hyundai make far better cars than the ioniq. Waste of money if u ask me, ID3 and the leaf are nicer in most aspects IMO
@robertdoyle7399
@robertdoyle7399 3 жыл бұрын
As it also costs in and about €40,000, it’s not terribly good bang for buck. 10 years ago, you would get a 5series for that price and plus I would trust comments with a pinch of salt, Bobs the main man with reviewing cars seen as he is done it for 10-11years, I would trust his judgement

Researching for a car for a 130km round trip, motorway commute. This car is stacked with standard features, but I think in 5 years time after some degeneration I'll regret buying a 38Kw battery. I want my commute to stay at 1hr max and dont want to have to slow down to 100km/hr on motorways. Pity its one size only.

It looks like it would have more range than the kona based on it's aerodynamic shape but range is much worse.

The range is less because it has a smaller battery than the Kona Electric. ^Dave

Yeah, the Kona has almost double the battery size. The Ioniq uses much less energy/km. 311 km WLTP for a 38 kwh battery is top of EV-class.
