I have been following Doc as well and he shared some good insights. People here commenting about climate, please do understand that, batteries can be recycled upto 97% but can you ever recycle Petrol/Diesel? Also our climate is becoming harsh day by day and moving to EVs is inevitable. Gradually the power grid will slowly move towards greener source. It is a gradual process and we have to start somewhere. There is just too much misinformation floating around and and people believe what they hear, to those I say do a bit of research and find out on your own. Coming to mining, why do people assume Petrol/Diesel comes without mining? Extracting any rare earth material is a power consuming process but it matters how you make use of that material at the end. If you can re-use that multiple times then nothing better then that.

Battery is like Engine and yes Engibe of a car can be recycled,Infact it last more than a battery if properly maintained. If you are comparing Petrol/Diesel then you should have written about electricity how it is produced. Right now electricity is produced by mainly Coal, If maximum electrity is produced by Hydro,Dams just like in NEPAL then EV is good choice but countries like India are dependent on Coal for most of its electricity. One more things no one cares about pollution or environment from vehicle. EV vehicle doesn't have tailpipe Emmision but carbon emission produce by an EV is way more than ICE vehicle before production. Studies show that producing an EV can generate 60-100% more emissions than producing an ICE vehicle, primarily due to the battery. It is estimated that Carbon emission in manufacturing of an EV is more than 20 years use of ICE vehicle in same category of vehicle. If electricity is produced by clean source then it can offset it's carbon emission otherwise emission remain same. Due to no tailpipe emission it is good for city like Delhi,Mumbai.

Your info is completely wrong. Do some research regarding the lithium manufacturing process, their disposal of dead batteries and the amount of energy needed, the source of that energy, and the load that falls on the power grid. Also, there are serious hazards connected with EV batteries. Even the western world has now started to get rid of the EVs mania after realising the side effects of it. And these are no propaganda . These are hard core facts. ICE don’t cause pollution of that level which is otherwise claimed . And climate change is the biggest scam on planet related to environment.

Even if you leave aside pollution caused by ICE vehicles or their high running cost. India has to import more than 80 % of it's oil. We spend billions of dollars every month buying oil. We're wasting our forex reserve. In future if India goes 100% EV. We'll massively cut down our import bill and gain forex reserve. Rooftop solar and vehicle to load can help stabalise the grid. Clean and cheap energy, less pollution, less imports. We have all the reasons to aggressively transition to EVs. Government needs to invest in charging infrastructure.

Instead of investing on solar power i purchased a second hand passat 2.0 Tdi dsg for 6 lakhs for out of state highway runs and travelling with a lot of luggage. And a polo gt tsi 2015 for modifications and enjoying ICE noises once in a while when i feel like the driving is becoming too quiet. 1. Battery is easily recycled. Newer batteries do not use cobalt. Petrol / diesel cannot be recycled. 2. The electric generation is becoming more green everyday. If you want to do comparison between fuels please do research on ICE vehicles and the oil well to wheel efficiency. Majority of the petroleum extracted is wasted before the wheels actually move. 3. Battery recycling is very good even in India. 4. That is myth since ICE vehicles also require enormous energy to make the specialty steel, aluminum and alloys.
