Today i'm working on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3.5 L engine. The issue with this truck is that it cranks but it does not start. i'm going to walk you through some electrical checks you need to do to figure it out.

READ THIS!!! With Hectors advice, I worked out there was power to the pump housing. I decided to bypass the cars' power source and hook up a spare battery directly to the top of the pump housing...still nothing. I removed the pump housing, disconnected the cable plug on top of the actual pump motor, AND IT WORKED!! The problem was a poor connection between the cable plug at the top of the housing, inside the tank. So the underneath side. I cleaned the connection, put it back in the car, and BAM!! she's running again!! So stoked!! A new pump with housing was AU$800.

I just want to thank you for making this video. No really. Thank you. I have a 2010 Hyundai i20 1.6 Beautiful car. Recently it just refused to start and I had to have it towed back to my home. I searched KZbin and stumbled upon your video. I performed the test just like you demonstrated, and low and behold there was no ground at the pump. I can't tell you what a relief that was because, imagine, it could have been a faulty immobilizer system or the main computer or the injectors and imagine the costs. So I ordered a pump but....here's the kicker. When I took the pump unit out the car..... guess what.....the yellow wire going to the positive side of the motor was completely broken off its terminal..!!!. That been a mystery which I can't figure out.. I reattached the wire properly, fitted the pump back, and turned the key and the car started almost immediately. So yeah ..oh and they took the pump I bought back too. Great video, you helped someone today.

If you connect the small test wire to the load spade of the relay and plug the relay back in, what would be the cause if you are not getting the power out from the load while plugged in? Relay??

This was cool, just wish it was for a 2002 Santa Fe. My mechanic can’t figure out wether or not it’s my fuel pump. He said there’s no way to check it on my car so he’s going to try to see if he can hear it or not. My car is built differently from what I’ve found ( very little) on my year. Good stuff, very helpful. I am 90% sure my wife's Santa Fe pump is dead, but going to test as you did for relay issue, pretty sure it isn't as I switched the relay for the fog lights out(same ones) and still no start. 310,000KM on the beast, but runs awesome up until now. Also, you can get a pump ring tool that has a socket drive attachment so you don't have to hammer and chisel it.

Good job bro, i suggest check out SMA channel and make some load lights to check wiring and circuit integrity. I made a couple for different amperage ratings. I know the fuel pump was open circuit. But these lights help out a lot, plus no having to switch your test light from B+ to ground. You can check power and ground in one quick test. Stay up bro

But in the engine compartment fuse box, right next to the fuel relay theres one little copper spade sticking up, looks like a test point of some sorts and has "Fuel pump" printed next to it. Hey Hector... How are you mate. i got this car that won't start with just ignition switch. I must press the pedal to start the engine while i switch the ignition. Once the engine is running I then gonna remove my foot on the pedal. This cause the engine to die. But if i restart it again using the same procedure and stick my foot on the pedal for 5 minutes then after that remove the foot on the pedal, the engine don't die. Is this related to fuel pump? or what could it be?

Very good! Yes there is a special inexpensive Hyundai tool for ring removal. If anyone is doing this replace the fuel gauge float b/c it will go bad and do it at the same time with the pump. Would it sound any different if only the fuse or the relay were bad and the pump was good?

I have a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and I'm having same type of issues. I wonder if i put bad gas or something because my gas was on E i put a good amount of fuel in it from gas can and it took a sec to start but i got going so i can make it to the gas station and my truck stalled out and would only crank but not start back up so i ended up getting more fuel and still same issue. So, I put a paper clip in the engine bay fuel relay slot and the pump got power, but there's still no fuel in the system..... My main suspect is the ignition wires themselves. It's a 6 pin/wire, any idea which one powers the fuel system? Is there a way to test the inertia switch? Does the 2002 2.7L have a neutral safety switch? Or a main relay? Fuel relay?

It moves the fuel from that side to the driver side. The fuel reservoir is split in 2 by the drive shaft.

Hector i have same car santa fe but it's from 2003 but my issue is i drive like 20-30 minutes and after that my car stop completely...i check the fuse box and that fuse from fuel pump was dead. I try to put same one back but he melded and after that i put double one just to see if it's work.well done the car starts perfect drive perfect until i bring the car back home but i don't want to leave this car like that. Hi Hektor, Mate i did your test on my santa fe fuel pump and it all looked good but I notice if I turn the key to full on I can hear priming under the bonnet (hood) it will try to start then stop. If I try to start it again without turning the key to back to full on again it just cranks only doesn't want to try to start. Should I have to turn the key to full off and on again to try to start it? Do yo think pump problem.

Hey Hector! I have a question for you please! I have a 2010 Santa Fe. Alternator was replaced last spring along with the battery and I just found out the alternator was just replaced before we purchased it in 2014 so it’s had two alternators now . Every since then we have been having power issues where I can drive it for 3 weeks and then it just dies (just like before I had the alternator change) . Serpentine belt and tensioner have been checked and fine. The shop I took it to found rust on one found wire and fixed that. They checked for codes and had 4 codes come up related to ECM and emission leak . We have dumped so much money in this car . Any ideas what it could be? Could it have something to do with the fuel pump? I can start it but then it will die and show my gas at empty (when it’s full) and have all the lights on (engine, battery etc.) . I’m currently driving it now but it’s basically like a waiting game until it loses power again . The engine light is on again and running those codes. Any help is much appreciated as we are ready to throw in the towel and get a new car but would love to fix this and sell it!

High pressure fuel pump seems to be a problem on Santa Fe's. They even recalled it in 2013 and now it's about to cost me $1100 on my 2017 Santa Fe sport smh. Hyundai needs to figure this out.

Hello, I own a Kia Cerato 1.6 crdi 136 HP vehicle. My car is at 86,000 km. Diesel is mixed with the engine oil, the oil level is constantly rising. There is no problem in the operation of my vehicle, the idle is normal, there is no noticeable black or white smoke from the exhaust. It works immediately with a single start in the morning, there is no problem. The technician said it could be the DPF and he removed the DPF and cleaned it in the machine. The DPF was around 40% full, but it was still cleaned. But that was not the solution either. Engine oil level continues to rise in my vehicle. I think there is no problem with diesel injectors because there is no indication of injector failure. The vehicle engine has a timing chain. Could it be from the high pressure diesel pump seal? Brad West You have a fuel delivery issue, I’m not sure if Diesel is the same setup as Gas but you need to check everything related to Fuel Delivery: Pump, Filter, Injectors, Sensors (inputs for fuel control) etc...
