I later on added another piece to the front of the alternator where I could see oil leaking it has seemed to catch what was leaking there.

Did you receive the new recall? Campaign number 976. They will install an oil protector after inspecting the cover and alternator, replacing them if damaged. Same as a previous recall but with the “protector” now.

haha yeah got it in mail this week uncanny timing, thing has been bad for 16 years and I try to protect it last week. I am having my gasket replaced tmr. It blew out my alternator last month so looking into that as well. I expect they will put some metal piece on it like I did but with a stronger metal.

My 2nd alternator just went on my 2009 Santa Fe because of this issue. Had alternator and valve cover gasket replaced by my mechanic in 2021 before this recall was issued. This time I brought it to the dealer to do the recall work and the ass-clowns there screwed something up with the ignition coils when they pulled the valve cover and now its misfiring and generation problem codes. Now i'm in a battle with these idiots to try to get them to fix what they broke without charging me for it. The aluminum hat on the alternator is a good idea, I'm gonna try something like that because i don't want to go through this nonsense again.

I have to agree, every time I bring my car into any mechanic they break something else. That is why I try to fix as much as I can myself I tend to be able to fix things but I have my limits. . I have had my valve cover gasket replaced 5 times now mostly under warranty. I have had the alternator replaced 3 times once under warranty. It's a shame you pay for work and they break something. Mine currently has misfire in the rear and I refuse to pay to get it fixed. Most likely a coil pack but we are talking like $700 to fix so car is no longer acceptable to me. I loved this car but it's 17 years old and I can't throw money at it as much anymore.

Mine wasn't misfiring until I had my alternator replaced. I replaced one of the front coil packs that went bad myself in 10 minutes. Only to have one of the rear ones go out on me the next day.

Hi..great work…does this solve the issue..please let me know

It did stop the oil from dripping down to the alternator. Just make sure the air gaps on the alternator are not obstructed directly with foil give it room to pass air threw. I saw oil dripping down foil instead of alternator pretty fast.

Hello, I have a 2009 Santa Fe Limited 3.3 V6. I just bought it, and it has around 111k miles. It's a one-owner car. Recently, while driving it home, the car suddenly stopped, and the engine shut off. Got it towed, The mechanic said they were not able to diagnose the issue. Both the alternator and battery are good. After that incident, it hasn't stopped and is driving well. Yesterday, I noticed some oil leaking from the timing cover. After a Google search, I found out that this could be related to Service Campaign 936: 2007-2009 Santa Fe valve cover gasket and alternator recall. Now, after watching your video, I remembered that I also saw some oil near the alternator. This is my first car, so what should I do? Please help. Will there be a recall? The dealership quoted me a 12-hour labor charge plus the cost, but I can't afford it.

Here is my other video on free valve cover gasket and free alternator replacement. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5Wzo3iGrMylqNkfeature=shared for my 2007 both were free, I think the 2009 is coverred as well. In the beginning of the video is the recall info. I doubt the timing belt cover is leaking, it may be valve cover leaking on it. There may be a link in the paperwork I show for you to put your vin in to see if it is covered. Engine stopping like that is stated in the recall I never had that issue with mine.

Thanks for your video. I went to the Hyundai dealership, apparently they changed the Gasket - Rocker Cover LH, but after going through : the static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10245012-0001.pdf notice. They were supposed to install an oil protector installation but I did not find one. Should I go back to the dealership and inquire more ? I kind of felt they just dragged it, they dint explain to me what all changes they did. They were in kind of a rush.

It has been repaired 5 times by different shops as far as the gasket replacement. This is a known issues for these trucks it has been recalled by Hyundai and the fix never worked, Hyundai replaced the gasket 3 times under warranty and I had the gasket replaced twice. It is 16 years old too old to have the valve covers milled and hope it solves the issue. It seems to leak every 4 years or so. I know of Lexus models with the same issue. The owner just gets the alternator replaced at this point since the cost is $600 for an alternator and $550 for valve gaskets. If it last 4 years so be it. This cost me nothing and at this point nothing to lose. I will keep people updated on it.
