@gene978 Couldn't disagree more with CR. The best thing about the Sonata hybrid is the standard 6 speed. It may be sluggish but compared to a CVT in all most all other hybrids it is a cheetah.

I've had my 2012 Cruze Eco w/Manual Trans for about a month now and around 85% of my driving is HWY and I average 44-46mpg. I did a 65 mile road trip this past Saturday and got 48.9mpg average! Loving this car.
@Brims13112 жыл бұрын
Roman, I here the Cruze eco is pretty fun to drive, how would you rate it compared to the new mazda 3 skyactiv? i've been looking at both for fuel econony, but i want something fun. Which would you choose between the two?

Anyone interested in hearing from a long-time owner of a Cruze? Base model, 6 spd manual, 1.8 l normally aspirated engine, bought brand new in 2011. Almost at 250,000 km or @ 150,000 miles, on my third set of tires. The original tires were designed for good gas mileage and I averaged over 40 mpg - non-eco model! Since then, I've opted for better handling all-season tires that can better handle rain and snow and I still average @ 36 mpg. No major repairs, fun to drive and better looking than that Hyundai (although I've never driven one) This is something like my tenth car, all different makes, and for the $15,000 I paid for it, it's been a huge delight, My first Chevy btw.

LOVE my 13 Cruze Eco. I love that car more than i thought i would coming from a 400hp truck. the gas mileage is astonishing for being an "eco" car, it handles amazingly. Chevy did good here.

I have a hybrid but I would choose the cheaper Cruze Eco. It doesn't have the complication of a battery+motor+charging electronics, AND it gets better highway MPG. Oh and it's cheaper so that means the Eco saves money .

Very fun and informative as usual Guys! Ok, the Cruzeiro may have a tiny edge but also a lot smaller of a car. The Sonata cost more but is much more car right? Now, Roman did u see the new Consumer report Video on the Sonata Hybrid? They tore it to shreds because of the 6 spd. tranny. Saying it was really sluggish. Did u find that to be true?
@Thecarguy125412 жыл бұрын
I hate Sonata Hybrid's styling, and Im not much on the interior, but I praise the fact that Hyundai left a real transmission in it! Overall I think Id have the Cruze though.
@simpleman7268512 жыл бұрын
GM doesn't have a small hybrid, so they are comparable cars. But, $6000 less for the Cruze makes it a better buy. Also in the past hybrids have had longevity issues. Only time will tell if they have improved with the new ones.
@angeldemon82112 жыл бұрын
The sonata is much more car. The comparison should be with the Elantra. Apples to Oranges. BTW the 2012 Sonata hybrid fixed all the drivetrain lash issues and the brake feel. And is is quite fun with the Blue mode OFF! Spins the tires on take off and has great pickup on the highway. Blue mode makes it sluggish. Cruze is great but diferrent category.

depending on the way you drive the car will get you more MPG on manual or automatic.

Actually the cruze tank is the same for all models. They rigged it with the fuel pump assembly so you only can get a little over 12 gallons in. Similar to the wooden dowels in the magazine of some shot guns.

I would take the Cruze because in really world and on the spec sheet it gets the best mileage, is fun to drive, and is a very nice looking package. For 2012 they will let you get Navigation with it so you can get a very well equipped car for around very early 20's as Navigation is only $700 dollars now.
@brandonreda12 жыл бұрын
the simple fact that the cruze is not a hybrid, and the sonata is. With a gas car that gets 42 mpg your going to be much more happy in the long run with the cruze. Any hybrid requires a specialized mechanic because of the high voltage dangers going thru the car. Not only that, but when that battery goes bad replacing it could be more than the car is worth. the cruze is the way to go.

@BF4MJ23 Primarily the cars computer but now that I do the math... it does add up. I actually did a 41 mile trip last week and I averaged 52mpg. I only used 0.8 gallons of gas. I've only ever put 11 gallons in the tank and I get just under 500 miles per tank.

The way that you measure mpg is bull!. You should take how many miles you driven and fill up the car afterwards to see how much fuel you used. Also you should have set a way to drive it so it is uniform in both tests.

I thought I liked the Cruze's styling better, because it looks better from the front (although I can't help but think that the Cruze and Suzuki SX4 have the same damn headlights). But although the Sonata looks frankly ugly in the front, the rest of it is flawless. Hyundai of made a serious coup (not coupe, coup d'etat) with their styling for 2011. Hyundai is the only automaker that makes an economy car that makes me go "Wow, look at THAT!" The Chevy is just... flat. Very Chevy styling.
@NoahC88812 жыл бұрын
Another point unless you drive a car for over 150 miles the computer is not an accurate way to measure up mpg. It does really piss me off that you did not do the 1/4 mile drag race or 0-60 even just for fun which it was what this video was about. I really would like to see the cruze on those tests. Besides why is the reason of such bias test? You are comparing a hybrid vs a non hybrid? The cruze is not a hybrid and on top of that is a turbo you should had compare it to the Sonata turbo.

If I could only choose between these 2 cars I would pick the Hyundai. Fifteen years ago I wouldn't have said that since Hyundai had a terrible reliability record but that's changed now. GM on the other hand still makes cheaply built unreliable cars. Having said that however I do like the small 4 cyl. engine idea better than the toxic batteries found in hybrids. After all nothing says saving the planet like strip mining for the raw materials to make the batteries in hybrids.

And Hyundai got caught lying about their MPG ratings (and were forced to refund money to customers). Heck even in this review with city driving, the Hyundai had less MPG than a standard nonhybrid car. Welcome to my corporate boycott list. Would have liked to see a drag race, or 0-60 test .
@chrishuber89308 жыл бұрын
electrictroy2010 dude your talking about something that you don't even know about. Their hybrids were not on the list of cars that read mpg wrong. It was only in the elantras and the other models like the sonata with the regular motors that were off by only 1-2 mpg. In the Elantra they said it got 41 it only got 39 on testing. I had a rental and could easily reach 40 mpg. So it's how you drive the car. They were gracious enough to give money back when they didn't need to. Ford, Honda, vw, and others have been caught too and for way worse readings and other things. Secondly your talking about a mid size car which is the siE of a full size against a compact sedan that's over 600 pounds lighter and has almost half the displacement. Hyundai could have put a cvt in this car and it would have had 40 mpg combined. I have easily got 45 mpg combined driving light in this car. Don't bash what you really don't know. 210 hp and 3350 pounds and a 2.4 l vs a 1.4t 2700 pound econobox. For the sonata to be in the same range with a stepped transmission shows how good the power train is. And it was only their first attempt at a hybrid!!!
