That’s a recall , we’re is the T-Joint that Hyundai says will fix the problem. Iam waiting for parts to come in so it can be fixed again. It only took them six years to come up with a solution, time will tell if it works or not.

2012 VeraCruz. I just had my alternator, alternator guard/protector, and valve cover gasket replaced at Route 60 Hyundai, Vero Beach, FL, It was replaced as a manufacturer's recall # 20V705000 (11-13-2020) which was previously recall # 14V-415000 (07-08-2014). Vehicle is in great shape now. Only 89K Miles. Cost =$0. What if you had the repair performed at an independent shop? I would contact your local Hyundai dealer and request reimbursement! Good Luck!

Yes. My car did shut-down while sitting at a red-light on a very busy state highway! Reality: It was neither a fun nor safe experience! After being stalled-out for ~25 minutes in the middle lane of FL SR-60 and hundreds of vehicles passing me by...many of which were rude and indignant...a female (nurse?) took charge and got two guys to assist me with pushing the car into the right hand turn lane, out of the way of the very unsafe "Rat-Race"! Mega-Kudo's to such Good Samaritans -- Our Society sorely needs MANY, Many MORE!

My 2012 VeraCruz was subject to Recall 197 back in 2021 had to take it to Tire Plus then had to battle Hyundai for 1.5yrs to get reimbursed only to have the dealership tell me they would call me for when the Safety Seal part came in (never called me). Last year I was sent another notice for the same Recall 197 so I went to Dealer only to be told that my car was fine but still needed the Seal (which I told them about the story of dealing with one of their other Agents at that Dealership), I was assured that they would call me when the part arrive (you guessed it, never called me). Last month my car died thanks to all the same symptoms that the recall listed (oil leaking onto the Alternator which would lead to charging issues..etc.) I made appointment with New Dealer to handle this properly at "no cost to me" according to the remedy listed on the Recall. Yet "oh no, we have to replace the starter to start your car to run the diagnostic and that is gonna cost you $490; do you consent?" Broward, FL

had the front valve cover replaced 2 times and now they just replaced it again and added "guard" to deflect the oil. It looks like its in wrong spot? and now Im leaking from rear valve cover too. directly onto the exhaust manifold. what is fair price for labor for the rear valve cover gasket?

Hi for the valve cover gasket replacement on rear bank we usually charge 3 hours labor due to removal of the intake manifold. And usually if the spark plugs has not been replace we advice customer to replace it too.

I thought my torque converter was on its way out, dealer told me cyl 3 and cyl 6 ignition coils and spark plugs were bad, started the job myself and found that all spark plug wells had oil in them (under the valve cover that was fixed through recall) and one in particular was halfway filled with oil, im assuming they didnt replace the spark plug tube seals when they did the recall?

Alternator recall only for the alternator if theres issue in the spark plug thats not part of the recall.

Completely off topic (first your genesis brake change video helped me a ton. Second. So my 2015 Gen sedan (tech package) trunk won't open. It's not the valet key in the glove box, my manual key won't unlock it, the emergency trunk release button is broken so that won't work. Is there any other way to get into the trunk? Does the dealer carry emergency trunk keys or I'm I better off going to a lock Smith? All options to open it are not working.

How about the button on o Your keys to unlock the trunk? What do you mean by emergency trunk button? You mean the manual release latch from the trunk?

If you have scantool maybe you can command the trunk relay to open unless the trunk latch is seized. Thats the only i can think off hope that helps

@@hyundaitech would the dealer have the scantool to release the latch? And yes the manual release latch is broken (terrible design where they placed it). My key button doesn't unlock it, neither does the button inside the car. All the usual options don't work

@@ugcamige they have scantool for sure to activate the latch but if a wire is broken no signal going to the latch to release it and in my experience if that happens we have to jam the latch itself. Hope not a broken wire

@@hyundaitech don't think it's a broken wire. I think it didn't close properly and the latch closed without latching on the hook so its jammed in a closed position. Do you know how much it will cost to get it done? Also unrelated, I have about 106k on it. Is it worth getting a transmission flush and a diff flush or since its synthetic fluid I can leave it?

Is the timing chain gasket under a TSB, will the dealer replace it or only the valve cover gasket.

Timing chain cover leak is not part of the bulletin, only valve cover gasket plus the oil leak kit to redirect the flow of oil when it leaks again.

@@hyundaitech Thanks for the reply, the timing chain gaskets leaks on all of them what do you suggest? stop leak? , so what you're telling me is that the valve cover gasket will leak again?

@@kimanilewis8021 hi there, the leak on this vehicle is coming from the valve cover gasket and the timing chain area. In my opinion thats why they include the oil repair kit in the bulletin so that if theres a slight leak it wont go to the alternator and causing it to fail. Hope that helps

Coz either you have to remove the compressor if the alternator is coming out going down or remove the front cooling fans for the alternator to come out to the top.

Yeah the two bolts right they're not the one you put the wrench on and pulled up to loosen the belt but the one below that the two together do you have to loosen the bottom one

@@randalloliver6851 so you are trying to remove the belt? Yeah i think if im.not mistaken 17 mm socket or 19 then you can move the tensioner to loosen the belt

Can you share the part no. for the alternator protector (TSB item)? I have a different Hyundai (Entourage)with the same engine and same problem and it is not part of this TSB

Hi I have this issue with my car and it's still there even though mechanics have done thier best Could you please tell me the name of liquid seal to be used up and down BTW is this a final solution

You can use the ultra grey silicone gasket. To be honest with you this flaw of this engine even though they are bullet proof they just leak. We have a recall for this models is to use a plastic piece to redirect the flow of oil leak if the repair still leaks. Hope that helps.

Do I have to apply this sealer to the gasket because some people told me that gaskets aren't supposed to be installed with any kind of silicons

@@salaheddin5504 if you are talking about the valve cover gasket, you just use the brand bew gasket. The silicone gasket that i mentioned is the ultra gey you apply in the timing chain cover area.

Unfortunately i heard those recall part numbers are not sold to customers coz it meant to be recall and the dealer should be able to fix it for you under recall.

I was told by a mechanic today, that this will cost me $2000. I can buy the parts myself, but he is asking for about $1500 in labor. Is that accurate?

1500? Is he doing timing chain cover reseal? If its just valve cover on front and alternator replacement maybe maximum 4 hours labor and that depends on the labor rate on the shop plus the parts in my opinion. Hope that helps or you can just follow the video and do it yourself if you want some fun.

Hyundai role out the recall until to these date 3/13/22 you should not spend any money they will fix these for you for free. If you do get it replace yourself you can notify hyundai to reimburse that back to you what ever how much did you spend on repair.

could this type of leak cause damage to the starter motor???

This type of leak usually the main issue is the charging system in my opinion. It will damage the alternator and the battery.

@@jasonmilam7204 in my opinion i think no, unless the leak so bad and it leak the other side of the valve cover and contaminated the starter. That could be another possibility.

Did you have a previous problem with the starter motor? What was the dealership's explanation for it failing? Age? or, was it too covered in engine oil? First, establish the cause of the failure. If Hyundai is not responsible, contact an independent repair shop for an estimate to R&R the starter. Then, decide where you will have the work done. While there are some things that I don't like about the Veracruz (Fuel Economy, Steering/Suspension). It's probably worth fixing and keeping. Car prices are outrageous. Good luck.
