Subbed, liked and commenting to say thank you for an excellent walkthrough. Just hooked up a tow rope to drag my wife's 07 Veracruz the last few blocks home after her battery died. Haven't confirmed it's the alternator for certain yet, but it sure looks like it. If so, your video will really help out with the replacement. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this! Much appreciated as pulling the fan would not have been my first guess. Been working on cars for over 25 years, so I'm usually pretty comfortable, this video really helped. On my 2012 there was just not enough room to pull the fan. I ended up supporting the engine from underneath and pulling the top motor mount. That gave me just enough movement to get the fan assembly out. Thanks again!

Nicely done video, clear, essential info. Concur that it's so much easier with that fan out. Wish I'd seen this before changing the alternator on my 2009 Kia Sedona (identical set up, except I think removing the cooling fan on the Sedona is easier, one you uninstall the center cross-bracket) By chance did you do a video for the valve cover gasket change?
@NoNonsenseKnowHow4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, and no I don't have a video for the valve cover gaskets

There's a recall update for this vehicle. You can get both the valve cover and alternator replaced for free at the dealership.
@lydh4485 Жыл бұрын
The dealership in my town has a 4 month wait for appointments. It sucks if your alternator is dead like mine before you can get there. So, definitely get that valve cover fixed asap everybody!

Don't let this fool you, it's a real pain to get that fan out. I had to remove the upper radiator hose, couldn't just move it out of the way. Also, there were tabs and things in the way of getting the fan out that I ended up cutting in order to make clearance. I also found that detaching the AC compressor and dropping it made some useful space for getting the alternator down lower to provide a little more clearance for removing the fan. Awful job.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow6 жыл бұрын
TroyTubeYou thanks for the comment and elaborating some more detail on the job. I agree that it was a pain in the butt getting that fan out of there. Sorry if I made it seem easier. LOL. :)

No apology necessary! It was a helpful video for sure, I should've thanked you as well. Just a warning to others - this might be a good job to pay a shop to do. :)

I was able to get the rad hose out of the way... took a little work to get it outside of the fan area then compress it and pull the fan up... one tab on the alternator I just bent back and the fan comes up OK.

I removed the drive belt, the main bolts, the power cable and all wires connecting to it. It STILL won’t come out! Is there a hidden bracket on the back side? Or is it just a real bitch to pry out? There is no play in the alternator at all when I try and remove it. Like it’s still attached somewhere! Please give me any useful tips!
@NoNonsenseKnowHow4 жыл бұрын
There are usually just two bolts that hold the alternator in. Yes sometimes they are seized in to the brackets and might require some pry actions
@RCSxMaverick4 жыл бұрын
NoNonsenseKnowHow thanks! I’m gonna try and pry it out tomorrow. Of course it’s seized in there. It’s the only part of the project that had me aggravated. The fans were easy to remove since I was already familiar with them from replacing the radiator last year.

It's really going to vary on what type of tools you have access to, and your experience. It can take as little as an hour or up to three hours depending on if you run into problems

How do you remove it?
@Klatuanikto4 жыл бұрын
Great advice and very informative. However, on a 2012 Veracruz, it is simply not possible to get the fan up-and-out no matter what you do. They probably drop the engine or something to do it. Spent two hours on the fan alone, uttering numerous expletives usually starting with the words mother, son, or God. The trick to getting it out of the way is to remove the top radiator hose, and the air intake chute that is just right of hood centerline by removing the three plastic screws, then sliding the left fan sideways, in front of the right fan. This exposes the alternator for removal. In all, this was not a fun job! About 6 hours to completion.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear it gave you trouble. Yeah I remember that fan being a real pita to get out of there. Definitely not as easy as say a Crown Victoria 4.6 L
