The only guy I've found on freaking KZbin that seems to recognize not everyone has $2000 to drop on a new camera. I have been waiting for this video comparison for so long, and while I have used both cameras, I still struggled to figure out which one I wanted; however, my results were similar. Canon EOS RP has quicker autofocus, and less noise albeit less dynamic range. It also feels much more comfy in the hand.

Watched a video of a youtuber - and I am not hating on him, which is why I don't write up his name - and he was like "The most important thing is to go out and make fotos, the camera is not important at all.". Meanwhile he was taking pictures with a € 3000,- Camera ^^. I mean I understand that they want to encourage people not to stop, just because they do not have top gear, but come on, at one point, you want your photos to look better and it is only so far, some cameras can go. I took some shots, which were looking good on the small screen of the camera, but when I looked at them on my PC, I nearly lost my mind because of all the noise on them, they were ruined. So yeah, but still, the youtubers are all helping a lot, very motivating people and very ambitious to help others, I like that a lot.

@@natbrownizzle3815 Well, I don't know the youtuber you are talking of, so it's not a direct response on him and his Gear. I guess the cost of his equipment is not the point as far as he shoot it and it brings out good results. I could bring you the example of @Noealz, which has recently acquired a medium format fuji, but keeps telling "whatever you have is good enough", and I belive he's honest in telling that. Sometime your equipment fails and you have to replace it: we must not judge what someone gets as far as it does not become a "fetish purchase"; everyone is free to spend the money they earn as they see fit. He's been using an X100 original for a long time, then he gifted it to one of his students in Seul, then used an X-pro original with vintage Lenses. For paid jobs (usually timelapses) he's been using a 5D MkIII, buit it was so battered and damaged that he had to replace it. Same with is infrared converted camera, which failed. The guy also used a Iphone 7 for almost 6 months for his own streaming and night picture to prove the point that "you can use what you have". Many people are into "vintage lenses and go to great extent to get some particular glass, but' that's not because they think they'll get better images, but rather for collecting purposes: I got my RP 2 days ago, because I wanted a FF sensor for my vintage lenses, but I could not focus them reliably with my "inherited" 5D MkII. Is it the best camera? No. Does it matters? it does not, because it takes good pictures and solved me a problem I had. My best image was taken win an e-PL6 and a kit lens: I wish I'll get something as good with this FF!

@@Leptospirosi The thing is, and I thing this would need it's own blog, but anyhow I'll try this anyway. The thing is, I just got started and like anyone who just starts with anything, there is one thing that I lack and that thing is patience. I want to take great pictures, but I seem to not want to put the long time and hard work into it, learning about theory, about anything there is, which takes time and of course patience. I get what you are saiyng and I try to look at the way I said things to. There are great photographers who can take amazing pictures with let's be hones, shit and good for nothing cameras, but I am not a great photographer so I think I make the mistake every rookie makes, which is to believe that it is the Jordans who will make me play better ball and not myself learning the fundamentals first. Thanks for the comment, I will go on an shoot pictures with my MFT Sensor and when I will have a FF sensor I will work with that too and if any starter reads this, brother, sister, take your time, be patient and enjoy the beauty of it, becaus it is just worth it.

My copy of a7II produced heavy moire pattern/distortion on the video. I sent my copy to the official Sony repair centre in Australia in 2015 and the response I got back was that I should have purchased a camcorder model such as FDR-AX700 or PWX-X70 if I wanted to focus on videography. The official Sony repair centre offered me a 40% discount voucher for my next purchase which meant that they acknowledged the issue but couldn't really do anything about the specific product. I am using the RP now and I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the video that comes out of it in terms of the distortion, the colour, and the CODEC and format it uses.

@Derpimuss as an A7II user wanted to switch to RP for its AF and better low light performance, I can say this... A7II is an amazing camera if you are not taking photos of a moving objects (eg. children) in kind of low light (typically indoor) situation. But even in a good light and with a decent zeiss lens this AF sucks and you really cannot rely on it... when it hits its great but mostlybit doesn't, and i learned it the hard way :( So, stills on travel, landscape and any situation where AF is not an must (eg. you have the time and can manually adjust if needed) take A7II and it works as charm with sigma MC11, but if you want to rely on AF only RP (from the two) Oh, and one more thing... if you don't need FF low light performance A6400 as an overall package with world leadingAF (in this price range) is the best of the best (haha to ad more confusion). In low light situation the IBIS of A7ii will help a lot, with unstabilized 85mm lens I can get sharp picture handheld at 1/20. Also the A7ii is much better weather sealed which RP totally lacks. These facts might be deciding factors for some people but it's a shame that you totally ignored it 😂

Old video and the comment is late, but one thing that I'd like to add is that Sony's A7 II was the first mirrorless fullframe to have 5-axis in-body stabilization, which for low light portraits, street and landscape gives you a great advantage of not having to use a tripod, even on lenses that don't have OSS / IS. This was my deciding factor when I was choosing for my full frame (RP vs 7II) and before picking up the Sony, I was a Canon user with two cameras (EOS 550D/Rebel T2i and EOS M100) for 11 years (and I still have those cameras today together with the Sony)

I found out just a few weeks ago (8/2023) that the 4k on the RP is a good option if (1) you can go wide enough and (2) you do not need fast reliable AF, but only sloooow reliable focus on slooooow moving subjects. Using the EF 4 16-35 L IS I like to have Ultrawide for FullHD which can be used in 4k projects but I also have a ~28...60mm equiv lens for 4k with rich detail. So I postponed to replace the RP and work with it alongside the R7 (with EF 100-400 ii, a gorgeous lens). EDIT: By the way: Good video, just three years later!

Well what can I say? I use a Sony A7II to photo live play dress-rehearsals. Low light (I must not use a flash for obvious reasons) and the actors on stage are moving about. Sometimes the focus is wildly blind but I touch the shutter release and the focus is quickly back in line. I've never missed a shot. The pictures are pin sharp, clear of noise and do not need editing. Yes, there are better (£1000+) cameras out there but the Sony A7II seems to perform extremely well at what it performs worst at.

I want to use a camera for video as I will be shooting product demo videos to be used on KZbin. I had not heard of the Canon EOS RP until now. I was leaning toward the A7ii. However, this video of yours has made me think. I do not and in fact hate any AUTO anything. I shot my band from 2000 to 2007 using a Sony PD150 DVCam and never used AUTO anything. I set up the shot first, then go with the settings. No "In/Out, In/Out, In/Out" BS for me. It is more of a distraction and irritates the viewer. So, I don't care about AUTO anything. I worked with an A7II for 2 years back in the days, the A7II autofocus is good only in the middle of the frame and there is a setting to enable the viewing of such area. Also its video was very bad and moiry, the a6300 kicked it out of the water at any mode. What I recommend to a newcomer is to get the A7 Mk1 to save up or the Mk3 for a good performing camera, also does the RP really have such bad battery life? the A7II required me to carry 5 extra batteries in winter, with the new A7III 1 battery = 6 intense hours

I use the RP for events and wedding and it sometimes worked with a single battery for the whole day. But it heavily depends on how you use it. Switching to eco mode will turn if the displays only Andre seconds after you stopped using it (and turn everything back on the moment you press a button) this will save a huge amount plus only using the viewfinder will also increase battery life. I would say around 800 pictures are possible on a single charge. I am currently using 3 batteries just to make sure but in general only need 2 when it comes down to a full wedding shoot

Canon is made in Japan. It was not all that long ago they ran the RP with lens for $999. Now that was an impressive price point. The lens is made in Taiwan. Canon menu system seems pretty good. Touch menus and touch for focus point - nice. I have too many cameras, but not a single FF one, so this is tempting. FF lenses diameter and weight still seem a little off-putting, but what the heck, overall weight is not terrible at all.

It's not the cost of the body....as much as the cost of RF lenses after canon has banned third party. I know there's the EF adapter, I own one and it's great. But there's now several neat sigma and Tamron lenses that will only be available for Sony and Nikon. So once everything is factored in, I feel like Sony might be a better long term investment. And that's coming from a canon guy who's never owned a Sony.

It’s all about the lenses. Sony has full 3rd party support and a viable used market. Tamron has really nailed the value segment and others are available too. There are other benefits of the Sony like much better build and body controls and IBIS, but the Canon has touchscreen and better AF. It was a tough decision but a gently used A7ii came up for sale for a great price and the available lens options won me over.

@jml7916 3 жыл бұрын
@@MC-yk4wl I am. The camera does incredible in low light indoors with a few quirks. Works best in AF-S (single) but will work well in AF-C (continuous) if you disable the view simulation. The inexpensive Sony 50mm is a but slow to focus but almost every other lens has been fantastic and fast. But, if I could afford it, I would for the A7Rii. It is basically the next gen and a better sensor. Plus much better AF. Rp has better video and better eye af than the A7ii but the A7Rii matches the RP and has a much,much better sensor.

@@jml7916 my experience is that when i shoot still objects, people etc. AF is ok but when i try to shoot eg. playing children AF accuracy is 50% maybe less :( Additionally i find AFS to hunt a lot. The best results i am able to achieve are when i use AFC , Flex spot tracking, but its not perfect and i really can't rely on it (i use zeiss 35 2.8) therefore im thinking of switching to RP (A7RII is out of my reach)
@jml7916
@jml7916 3 жыл бұрын
@@MC-yk4wl try disabling live view effect (or something like that) when using AF-C. I found that the camera would do an initial focus with Phase detect then stop the lens down and track in contrast detect to give the live view effect. It would hunt like mad. It really made flash photography a pain until I figured out what the camera was doing. By turning off live view effect it kept the lens wide open like a dslr and worked much better. I also discovered that eye AF only works in AF-S on the A7ii. The A7Rii (that’s 2 not 3) is only a few hundred more expensive than the RP and you get 42 Mp, much improved AF, eye detect in AF-C and twice as many PD points, and get to keep that sweet lens. The RP is also a noticeable step down in IQ where the R2 is a major step up. I can look up exactly what I disabled if you want.

Totally agree with your comments, what most KZbinrs forget is that most camera sales are in the $500-1500 price range. For most people, spending more money has very little incremental picture quality improvement for the cost! Sony also has excellent offerings, A6400 etc. Nikon, who is not doing well is never mentioned in this price range.

I own the A7ii. It definitely shows its age. It's a great camera for casual use but if you're dipping your feet into a commercial workflow, it'll definitely show its age. I "upgraded" from the Canon 77D but the 77D is much better at focusing. The A7ii is also verrrrry slow and AF slows down a lot if you're shooting for a few hours and the camera starts to heat up There's nothing worse than shooting consistently for a while and then having your camera performance just dip. Way more hunting, way more out of focus shots, everything is moving way slower than before at the point in a shoot where everyone's getting tired and I just want to finish up. On paper they seem similar. Even after a quick test they seem similar. But, in practice the A7ii is an old camera and it shows.
