Antigrav racers like ballisticng and wipeout are incredibly underrated. Along with BallisticNG my other favorites are the Redout series for games, give them a try if you haven't already, they play incredibly fast and the sense of speed in them is unmatched, even compared to something like F-Zero or BallisticNG's zen speed class

Hell yeah, that's great to see such video about BallisticNG. I love WipEout and BNG. It took me 120h to get platinum in the base campaign (there was also a major update that added and changed some events, that made it even harder) and now I'm on my way to finish the rest... I hope!! Because the difficulty is MAD HARD. It's made for AG and WO fanatics and I think no matter how hard I try, my skills have their limits. But I love this game. I'm so thankful that we have the true successor of WipEout we deserved. I still haven't tried Pacer though. The soundtrack of Ballistc is a godbless. Totally in my taste, totally fitting to the game, totally made from the heart. After ~150h of play I still haven't modded a single playlist. It's HUGE. I don't play online but I don't need to. I remember the pain of playing WipEout HD and Omega online, against players I could never see after the start. Having so much content for single player is essential for that genre imo. Loving BNG is funny because nobody knows that game, nobody cares about it, nobody dares to try it, nobody will even show some admiration for your skills in it and yet you still love it because you're not trying to fit in or whatever, you just play a game you love. In the middle of my flawed driving, I'm looking for these small moments of exctasy, in which my trajectory is perfect and I can contemplate the action, the scenery, and mix it with the sound. While it's a pleasure I may find in most racing games, AG racers have their own touch, I feel like they're tailored just so to tell the player to go reach these moments.

I think calling Wipeout a "kart racer" is a bit of a misnomer since vehicular combat games have existed long before Mario Kart. I'd call this a "combat racer" since it fits in more closely with Spy Hunter or Road Rash.

I've always loved these types of future racer games. F-Zero is arguably the precursor to it all, and definitely deserves some love (although that's hard to do since Nintendo basically only release titles for their own platforms, and also seem to have forgotten that they even own the F-Zero franchise) Ultimately, Wipeout took the F-Zero model and ran with it. They dialled it up to 11 and added a soundtrack that (to this day) absolutely *fucks*. Another notable (and probably long-forgotten) series from this sub-genre of racing game is Extreme-G. I recall a PlayStation release from the franchise called XGRA... It's not "quasi spacecraft" racing, but Tron bikes are pretty badass too.

I love this game, but I vehemently disagree with your praise of the airbrake and pitch. First of all, air brakes (or a similarly named mechanic) already existed in the wipeout series, and it was implemented far better imo. In BallisticNG you slide out, as if flooring the pedal on a rear wheel driven car. Not only that, you lose a TON of speed if you hold it longer than a split second. Not to mention the downright uncontrollably goofy speedup after a long slideout that makes no sense as a simple air brake. It is something else entirely. In WipeoutHD for instance, you simply make a sharp turn, with a tiny bit of rear sliding. Much more realistic, controllable and fun. With an airbrake, the ship pivots roughly around its center of mass. In ballisticng you pivot around an arbitrary point that feels like its 5 meters in front of your ship. Secondly, pitching. Pitching ALSO exists in wipeout, and using it is absolutely pivotal!!!!!!! You will never win a high level online race without pitching, and some of the later stage elite bots are so fast you're practically forced to squeeze out all the speed you can from barrel rolls. If you don't know, lots of additional barrel rolls can be done in many wipeout maps by pitching your nose up. Furthermore, to reduce air time (something which ballisticng does NOT punish) you can pitch down at jumps where it is impractical to do a barrel roll. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN - Ballisticng FORCES you to do a lot of pitching to even survive a single lap without dropping precious seconds against elite AI... which is arguably a good thing as it raises the skill ceiling, however, some maps are designed absolutely horrendously, even without mentioning the disastrous bumpiness of some maps, a lot of turns that also turn upwards are simply impossible with certain ships. Even with pitch assist, it sometimes feels like a full up-pitch is not enough to save you from the dreaded nose bumps, completely killing your flow (and therefore the fun, at least for me). I dare you to defend the map design of this game. It completely pales in comparison to even older wipeout games. Too many sharp upwards turns that force a shitty line of driving to be doable, putting you in a bad spot for the next turn/boost pads most of the time. I have a bunch of other criticisms that I might write down into a review on the steam page some day, but for now, rant over...

Antigravity games (AG) from my note list, you can it to find games if you like: BallisticNG (similar to old WipEout); WipEout Pure (PSP emulator) gets the EU version and get ReShade postprocessing shaders and high-resolution textures, but be careful some NOT ALL ISOs have very hard AI so look out for that issue, WipEout Pulse (start of the new physics, play with PSP emulator) get the EU version and do the same thing for textures etc, WipEout Omega Collection (PS 4/5 only for now); Pacer (similar to WipEout); Redout 1, Redout 2 (new physics that have less sliding). F-Zero and F-Z like is next: F-Zero X, F-Zero GX; Antigravator; Fast Racing League (Nintendo Wii U emulator), Fast RMX (all dlc and extra tracks version of Fast Racing Neo) Switch is recommended it has a poor performance on emulators. XF Extreme Formula (It's in early access but has great promises it has almost 2 hours of tracks/stages) Unique is next: Grip Combat Racing (has AG and wheeled vehicles).

Wipeout does have airbrakes and some have pitch control too tho, no? well maybe not all of them, I thought they brought it back in later versions; could be wrong; haven't played 2048 yet. Also some of the earlier sequels had a slide-to-the-side mechanic that makes the need for airbrakes less necessary.

Sometimes even making perfect laps from the start I'm still in last place. It's like Redout 1 all over again, but not as bad as Redout 1 in that sense.
