I know this is quite an old video and it has been quite a while since I last watched it but I have discovered that I-310 was originally going to be built as a southern loop route called I-410 but it never fully materialized and and this western stub was labled as 310 instead... on the other end of the planned route, the eastern shorter stub is designated as I-510. If I-410 had been built, then the other bridge over the big Muddy would have been the southernmost bridge crossing on the Mississippi. This is one of my many favorite classic Freewayjim videos.

The Hale Boggs bridge crosses the river at the point where the worst ferry disaster in American history happened. In 1976 the MV George Prince collided with the SS Frosta and capsized just yards from the river bank. 78 passengers perished.

The stack at US 61 is sort of necessary. there is not enough dry space for a cloverleaf A 3 level roundabout would have worked, but that would probably not fit interstate standards

@@Freewayjim Didn't Know that, It was Originally supposed to Be part of I-410 (New Orleans Southern Beltway) But It was cancelled. I-310 was also planned to run through new Orleans but it was cancelled too.
