That came out nice Jim! One thing that might help, and I may have mentioned this before…….if you put supports on the inside of the body on the side where Chitubox won’t place ‘em, that can help keep the model steadier on its way up from the lift cycle. At least greatly minimize the shift where some slight sanding is only needed, and you have to do that anyway. What I’d like is the ‘77 Lemans he has coming. That was my Driver’s Ed car among several back in high school. I’m waiting until CGTrader has one of their sales again. I’ve several in mind besides his I’d like to get. ⏰

One feature I do like about his Can Am is he modeled the rear window slats shut. I had mine open when I designed the print file of the ‘73 Grand Am months ago, and the supports pulled some of them away. So yeah……that’s a good idea to mesh those closed…..less chance of a print failure.

@plastiksurgeon9129

@@ScaleModelExperiment I’d shadow line it if it were me. Resin is too brittle for my tastes to scribe anything open, and that’s when Murphy’s Law will strike and you crack one of the slats. I don’t think too many will notice that there’s no window behind the slats. 🤪

The Can Am was a car I really wanted in my youth, but could never afford (either the car or high insurance on it). Via 3D printing, this would in a way substitute for the 1:1. However, as I learn more about the 3D printing process, I'm finding it alarming that there are quite a few "failures" in printing, and unexplainable errors that need extra body work to get printed models "corrected", even for somone doing the printing with a lot of experience such as you have, James. A lot of resin is being wasted, a hidden cost versus buying kits from AMT, Revell and others. I'm back on a budget in retirement, and am becoming less sure of 3D being cost effective. I'll keep watching you guys, and hopefully will learn how to better keep cost of prints down.

That’s the truth Ray, it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows with 3d printing. All of us are trying to figure out the best formula of settings angles and what not to avoid misprints. It’s actually fun though. Please don’t get me wrong. It is a challenge to print a perfect kit. I’m working hard at it.

the only thing i really do dislike/think he can fix about his GM/Chevy/GMC kits is the center bolt head 1987-2003 style of cylinder heads that come with the Engine models. it should be the 1960-1986 style with the perimeter 4 bolt covers.. I have 3D modeled the proper valve covers for his engine, its still kind of weird to see it come with a pre TBI GM vehicle

I've actually 3 printers I was considering donating the elegoo mars pro to someone in the modelling community that hasn't got one it was my very 1st one it gave me nothing but headaches 😂 while learning. But yeah sorry for getting off topic that turned out awsome clean and clear what resin u using on your elegoo printer engine a so very detailed ike headers very nice prints james do you print at a set degree in percentages or do u just tilt a little for each part

Hi Keith, I did use the Elegoo Saturn 4 printer for this model. It was printed at 2.4 exposure time with .025 layer height using Elegoo 8k resin. I prefer the smoke grey and vanilla colors because it’s easier to paint light colors over them.

@69airride3
@69airride3 2 күн бұрын
@@ScaleModelExperiment Thank you Sir, and do you think that the 13 degrees on the side tilt angle is what might have caused the Z axis shift lines and if so, could it be corrected by increasing or decreasing that value?. Just got an Elegoo mars 5 ultra....just trying to soak it all up. Thanks
@ScaleModelExperiment
@ScaleModelExperiment 2 күн бұрын
The tilt and angle get rid of the print lines which this one had none. After talking with friends they reminded me to put supports on the backside of the long flat panels to keep them in place. Just the bottom is not enough. That will eliminate the model from moving and z shifting.

Very nice rendering of a EXCELLENT subject. Being both a Pontiac fan & an owner of one of those cars, the body LOOKS RIGHT! The interior panels & dash are pretty accurate, the seat pattern isn't though(a small detail). That engine is almost to die for in accuracy!! Best detailed Pontiac V8 I've seen in scale. Concerning Z shift - having operated CMM machines, is it possible there is a minor calibration issue(in Z axis)? I only mention it as it shows in all 3 examples. On CMMs, calibration before every run is key. Beautiful work of a beautiful car!
