I-45 North Freeway Houston, TX

This video documents the I-45 North Freeway in Houston from Spring to Downtown. I only recorded part of it for this video. Seriously, the road has near LA levels of sprawl.

I got to be honest and say despite the grandiose of Houston freeways some of the merges are quite dangerous as they aren't generous with the space they give you. Examples include 4:38 and I believe there is one ramp from US-59 South to I-45 North that gives you no acceleration space and goes straight into the freeway.

The merges on the Pierce Elevated are nuts. I completely agree.

I may be remembering incorrectly but there is also one that you might know more since you are from Dallas. If you are on US-75 North and go onto the ramp for I-35E North, close to the start there is this ramp from the streets I believe that goes onto that same ramp but straight into it. You'd think that with these huge freeway systems they can afford to make it a little safer. I don't know maybe I'm just spoiled with Kansas City highways.

I don't know why.. but I've got obsessed too much lately with the us-59/i-10 interchange.. one of my favourites in houston. I even redesigned it judt for fun and the pierce and the us-59 elevated as well my second favourite freeways in houston.. the first time I came to houston that was the welcoming drive. except that we had taken the 610 and the 290 but then we went back the next day and went down from the 610 and then the 45 passed the pierce. and then to the gulf freeway. such a cool drive every time. I go through there. and it was an awesome song matching the road. :) just saying...

Thanks, you should watch my newer I-45 video, it contains nearly the entire I-45 freeway in the Houston metro in addition to complete signage, better camera work, cooler skies, and no product placements. Lol.

I should have mentioned in the last comment but... it was too early to say it.. I pretty much got obsessed with the song (ive heard this like 6x in t he past 3 hours) and the 45 North and looking for way to make the future reconstruction cheaper.. just saying..

I remember as a kid from a small town in Texas my aunt taking us to downtown Houston in 1975 to a coffee shop, I mean the sidewalks were jammed packed with people, I couldn't believe how many people there was walking up and down the sidewalks. I also remember hearing "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" being sung by Elton John on the jukebox. There was a tunnel system then, but the whole thing was cut up into fragments, now the fragments are all connected to each other, and if you go to downtown Houston today, during a weekday, it looks deserted, just a few souls in site. I know at least a 100,000 people work in downtown each weekday, but they're like goffers all down in the tunnel system trying to stay out of the Texas heat....I go there today and I can walk around downtown without passing anyone for blocks, how weird.

Thanks man, I love it when these videos stir up memories. Yeah the tunnel system is present in Dallas too, which is convenient but IMO it destroys the city's urban fabric as you don't see many people, not to mention how DT seems like an office park. Both cities are making good strides to make the central regions more dense and walkable :D.
